many thanks for this. I will re import Gamebase and test. I tested all the 0 and A games imported with 1.5.1 and found a common problem I think with Cartridge loading on the Vic20. Is there a way you can override how the game is loaded into Vice or does it always try and load the same way? Many of these failing to load will probably load with cartridge autostart mode. Some won't due to looking for ROM / write protected memory blocks. I will replace those with other versions. Please try an alternative method if possible with Arachnoid, Apple Panic, Artillery duel and Atlantis and let me know how it goes. Thanks Ian I tested those games and it seems all of them are "multi carts". I need to change a bit how the games are imported, right now it only picks the first entry in the zip file available in gamebase, so the second cartridge is not copied properly. I will fix this, but it will mean you have to import them again from gamebase. I doubt the carousel support multicarts, so you probably need to take a vice snapshot of them once they load in vice properly from the game manager to get them working with PCU.

Most of the problematic ones will be 16K carts in 2 8k roms. Usually they are $A000 and $6000 but sometimes they vary like the Scott Adams adventures. I am not asking you to fix the carousel but wondered if you could add a cartridge toggle to use Vice auto load in game manager. I realised from your post that you are possibly only collecting up one of the .A0 or .60 files so if this is a big issue please ignore it. My alternative solution is to use the already extracted cartridges Nick did and merge the 2 databases then fix the few remaining.

I have changed so that when importing cartridges from a vic-20 gamebase both .A0 or .60 files (or any other files if available) will be included. I got it working in Vice from the game manager, I checked how the GEMUS script in gamebase works. I will test it a bit more before doing a release, perhaps later today evening or tomorrow. There will be no need for a cartridge toggle I think.

Many thanks Lance.
There will only be a few left that will needs special treatment after that. The import in 1.5.1 and 1.6.0 has already made a massive leap forward. Thank you.
Out of all the 0 and A games I found about 10 that would not load and need further investigation. Not all of these were cartridges.
I will let you know if there is a common cause that can be fixed but I suspect not.
For the carts, most will be fixed by picking up both parts. Thank you.
Some carts will still detect they are write protected / on a rom and not ram. e.g. Robotron 2084, these may not start as is even with both parts loaded so an alternative version on disk can be found.

Lance, hopefully a quick one, is there a way to find the imported games with missing game or image?
I imported using 1.6.0 as an addition to those I already imported with 1.5.1 and set the missing games to favourites for now but how do you tag them otherwise?

New release: 1.6.1Fixes: - "Game view" is renamed to "Gamelist view" in the UI.
- Support for running Vic-20 multi-carts in Vice from the game manager. When importing cartridges from Gamebase Vic-20 all cartridge files are copied, earlier only the first entry in the zip file was included in the game manager.
Tip: To view all multi-cart games after importing from gamebase vic-20, create a gamelist view with "Description" "Contains text" "cart2="

Yes, I added a "missing" text to the "View tag" field in the UI for all games that is missing a game file. Create a gamelist view like this:

make you the search function ? If you start typing letters when you are in the game list it will jump to a game starting with those letters, e.g if you type "imp" quickly it will jump to "impossible mission". This can be used to quickly navigate in the list. Or do you want more advanced ways of searching, how do you want it to work in that case?

Only 4 not working on the 2 part import - Kindercomp, Story Machine, Mastertype and Buck Rogers. I will get these fixed.
Thanks for the viewtag - I fill in as broken as I test and can filter on this later when fixing.

I tried to create a carousel option for Wizard from a single .D81 disk. it worked on vice, but not in the carousel.
I also noticed it didn't see .d81 files by default. Is that why it didn't work?
Could you add .d81 support?

Could you add .d81 support? One thing you can try is to unzip the .D81 file, change name in the tsg file to point to the unzipped file and test if that works. We don’t have the code for the carousel so adding support for it is not possible if it’s missing.

Oh yes I remember now when I found out you could use D18 images in TheCarousel v1.0.7 or 8(v1.1.0 is when the File Loader was added, it was called then the USB File Loader, they recently removed USB from it name), I had to rename the D81 file to D64, so had to renamed it "THEC64-drive8.D64" but it was before they made the file loader. That was the days when you could only load one d64 image from a USB Stick, TheCarousel v1.0.5,6,7 and 8 used the directory driver in VICE(its like a SD2IEC), now it uses the image driver in VICE(in VICE under Machines settings you can change it) so not sure if it still works, they must of changed it when they added the File Loader in v1.1.0. thec64community.online/thread/5/load-d81-images-problemYou can load D82 the same way too.

is there any way to add multi disk support ? No, not to the carousel, there's no option to select a different disk when you need to. Since we can't modify the carousel code we cannot add such support.

There is a way of adding disk 2 games to the Carousel, you have to fool it into thinking its the same image D64 or Tap file its loading. thec64community.online/thread/371/c64-mini-swap-disks-tapesWith 2 disk games you have to put in disk 1 and disk 2 in a game slot on the Carousel and each disk has to be named the same so you can use the same save file to load disk2.d64 or Tape2.Tap. It works cause the Carousel acts like the File Loader, they are the same thing, the File Loader is a extension to the Carousel, they both load games the same way. A CJM(Customise Joystick Map) file is just a renamed TSG(TheSixtyfour Game) file, and they came from the ZX Spectrum Vega, it uses the same type of file to customise the joystick mapping in a game.

Would there be a way of adding multidisk games to PCU Game Manager(games with more disks like Disk1, Disk 2, Disk 3 and so on.....? You can added them to the Carousel but need to add each disk to a game slot and each disk needs to have the same name and in a folder, look here to see how I done it, I did this for THEC64 Mini before Classic Mode was added... thec64community.online/thread/371/c64-mini-swap-disks-tapesYour trying to fool the emulator in to thinking it the same disk attached so you can use the same save game so you can load the next disk, so you can see the same save in each disk that loaded by the Carousel. You play the game up to the point where it asks for the next disk(Insert Disk 2), then you save at that point and then close the game then load Disk 2(from the next game slot) and then go to the save/load menu, you should see the save you made from Disk 1 and you load the save then press fire or return to load Disk 2 and carry on playing the game.

Hi Lantz...
I am trying to import some demos from my C64 Demobase(gamebase front end used) but a lot of them dont work in Game Manager
In gamebase you can point to the D64 file and click which file to load first from the Disk image, is it possible to do that in Game Manager?
I'm really stuck atm

No, there is no way to choose which file to load from a specific disk image. The carousel does not have this option either, so I have not added such a feature to the game manager. The only option I guess is to put the files you want to load in individual D64 images which you then use in the game manager instead of the original file. What does the D64 images look like? Is there individual files that can be run standalone? Perhaps it would be possible to write a small program extracting each file from a D64 image and add them to an empty one, so that you don't have to do it manually.

Some Disks have problems with the load"*",8,1 because sometimes there are some other lines(del or seq files) that load first because these are the first on the disk.
So it's nice to choose the file to load first , especially with demodisks because often they have multiple files that are possible to choose from or other files that are not loadable.
Also it's possible to edit them in Dirmaster offcourse, i know.
on a sidenote.....
I also have problems loading some files from Demobase in GameManager because a lot of files have multiple extensions, how come? Or even worse....ALLTHEMUSICFROMCOMM.t64.gz.zip.gz I think i have to add these not working demo files manually i guess...kind of disk image can i use, only D64 or other?

New release available: 1.7.0New feature: - Four new favorites gamelist views added. Menu options under "Edit" added for each favorites view. CTRL+F12 for toggeling favorites has been changed, use CTRL+F1 to F5 now. When importing from a carousel folder or from gamebase it is possible to tag the imported games as one of the favorites 1-5.
Bug fixes: - Tabbing from joystick config field or system config field does not trigger a save state change.
- The height of the listview compobox popup adjusts to the number of gamelist views
Having different favorites lists makes it easy to select exactly which games to include for different carousels instead of creating filters. I updated the documetation with this also: Gamelist Views

Hi Lantz,
The main problem with importing Demobase 64 into GameManager is that it is zipping a zip so to say, thats the reason a lot of demos are not working in GameManager.
I hope there is something you can do about that otherwise it's too much work to check and rezip etc all the demos not working(thousands not working)
The D64 Demos that dont work i can fix that with correcting the D64 directory when needed(dirmaster), maybe 1500/2000 demos is my estimate.....
I hope you can fix the zip.zip.gz problem

Ok, the game manager have some logic for unzipping already zipped files, this works fine for gamebase64 but perhaps the files in demobase have a different format. I need to debug this I think, and for that I need the Demobase 64 to test with. Can you share it or provide a link where I can download it? Edit: I found this one, is this the latest version? archives.org
