A huge caveat here - RGL won't be able to implement every feature that everyone wants, but let's imagine that we could. What one feature would you want implementing for THEC64 or Mini? Hi Shaun! - Support all joysticks and gamepads that work with HID in Windows and Linux.
- Support USB serial ports that would be accessible as e.g. modems connected to the VICE-emulated user port. This would enable connecting to e.g. hardware and Internet.
- Support phones and Microbit that emulate USB memory sticks when connected to computers. This should make it possible to update time and e.g. weather data by reading a file in a diskette that is updated by the phone. Several partitions should be handled.
- Change or add diskette mechanism that also works for cartridges. (Supported on THEC64 since firmware 1.3.2, but not on MINI.)
- Support for paddles and C64 mouse (they could use analog USB-joystick, or mouse).
- THEC64 MINI and THEC64 should be able to format USB flash drives, since it's difficult to do on Windows 10 w/o third party software.
- Support for Swedish/Finnish keyboard, and also Danish and Norwegian, i.e. Nordic keyboard (all C64 keys are on the same place on the Nordic keyboards) in THEC64 MINI.
- Num Lock on a standalone numeric keyboard should work as on a full keyboard, i.e. be off at when first connected, or maybe remember state.
- A standalone numeric keyboard should have joystick buttons A, B, C, as 0 = A, + = B and - = C.
- VIC20 emulator should be built in, since it has the same keyboard as the C64. It should be possible to configure VIC20 memory banks in the CJM-file. (Supported on THEC64 since firmware 1.3.2, but not on MINI.)
- Save to tape should be possible, i.e. there should be a record button in the tape user interface, but it should be possible to mark tapes as read only by e.g. some code in the filename.
- It should be possible to type in the cassette counter, because now it is difficult to stop winding at the right count.
- It should be possible to type all characters that you can type on the real C64 keyboard using the Virtual keyboard. One could use joystick button B to make a marked key stick, and then the held down keys would be released automatically when the first sensible combination that types a key or changes graphics has been reached. It is important to be able to type INST (SHIFT+DEL) and SHIFT+RETURN. These can work sporadically now if you mark SHIFT and press Fire and the joystick button C/A at exactly the same time.
- You should be able to force THEC64 into 50 Hz mode even if EDID says it doesn't work, since I have screens were 50 Hz works anyway. There is a way of forcing THEC64 to start in 60 Hz by pressing POWER for 6 s.
- The CP/M cartridge should be supported, i.e. they could include the Z80 emulator from later VICE 2.4 releases since 2015.
One goal would be that The Official Commodore Christmas Demo (side B) and editor and BASIC tutorial should work using the THEC64 MINI with only a joystick.

Hi, Thanks for the shopping list. There are no plans to add the VIC20 emulation to THEC64 Mini for several reasons that I won't go in to here. But I always advise asking for features that you really want through official channels and also note that my time at RGL will soon be at an end. And should you contact the support email or request features via RGL's official social media channels, then please be polite about it (not that you haven't been here). It has been known that some people start shouting if they don't quickly get the features that they want, and that doesn't convince anyone at RGL to do anything about it. Regards, Shaun.

Shaun, Thanks for the update. I am disappointed the Vic20 won't make it to the mini but I have a few options to either replace the board with a Raspberry Pi or get another TheC64 or TheVic20 and use that. Unless there is a super duper Vic20 Mini in the works ;-) It would be interesting to hear from your developers point of view why the one line of code for saving to the flash cart mentioned earlier in the thread is difficult to add or not prioritised to be added. Best regards, Ian

Best regards, Ian Hi Ian, There are not developers currently at RGL, not in the context of THEC64 or Mini. There has only ever been one developer working on THEC64 and Mini including the firmware updates and product development at least in terms of "coding". Some 65x developers did help out with the C64 software on the Carousel but not with anything beyond that. And of course many people contributed to the C64 and VIC-20 emulation. But it's one guy who put it all together and did the stuff like audio scaling feature, and got it working at 50/60FPS on an A20 board. Regards, Shaun.

They have just released THEVIC20 so don't see them any time soon putting the VIC20 Emulator on THEC64 Mini any time soon, I wouldn't. It's not quite as simple as that, and THEVIC20 is a limited edition product run so it's not certain that more will be made. Again, it wouldn't be right to go into the reasoning here, but anyone is free to request VIC-20 emulation on the Mini. Maybe, with enough encouragement, it will be included one day. Regards, Shaun.

I know Chris Smith is the only coder working on The Carousel(see why I added The... ) and if he needs to add a feature, he has to find out how to do it in C and work it out and that take time, that why the USB File Loader took 6 months to add to The Carousel, its a lot of work for one person, but its about if you can add it easily or not too and if you can find out how too, I know how he feels cause I am the only one working on PCUAE, I know The Carousel in side out now... If I can add something I will but I have to work out if I can and if it will work the way I want it to and not everything works out the way you want, I was working on PCUAE the other day for over 5 hours just to get it to do something but not everything works out the way you want it too and it just don't work out in the end and you have to move on. Adding a feature is about as well if its worth the time and effort too and if it really needs it, you need to weight it up, that why its important to keep asking for it, the more users ask for that feature the more likely it will be added but only if it can be. We are only human..

The A20 CPU in THEC64 MINI does perhaps not have capacity to run xvic from VICE 2.4 at 100%, but if it was called e.g. VIC20 @ 70% in the GUI it would be OK for non action games. The same with CP/M cartridge, if it cannot run at full speed.
I think some of my suggestions would increase the sales. People make new reviews on YouTube and sales sites for the THEC64 MINI, THEC64, and THEVIC20, using newer versions of the firmware.

He's a bit late, thats 3 weeks ago.. properly taking longer for Chris to put all the new stuff in TheC64 Mini, remember only one guy does all this, it could be bugs holding it back so it need all testing first before puting out there as a update and he is working from home too.

My most wanted feature is the ability to turn accurate disk access on/off from the menus. Too much hassle to rename files in order to turn this feature on/off. Especially considering you cannot rename files on the C64 itself.
Oh, and someone else mentioned the ability to run the megacart VIC20 image on The C64 and The VIC20. That would also be something I'd wish for.

I am going to put a option in PCUAE, VICE Mode so the Mega Card auto boots up when you run the VIC20 emulator...

Thanks, Shaun. The ability to set up a network connection, either via a WiFi adapter that is widely supported, so that we can connect to TelNet modem connections like BBS would be wonderful. I know there are a number of people asking for this.

Hello
the feature I would really like is that on the carousel screen, you could toggle between seeing the screen shot and the box art. this is because the box art is tiny but the screen shot is big - I am far more interested in the box art. it would be neat if you could easily toggle between where the s/shot and box art are located so you could see the box art bigger. I don't know if this is already a feature or if it is just not possible, but just thought in case it is an easy thing to do.
thanks to everyone involved!

Hi Knight Rider, This support that you requested will not be in the next firmware update as far as I know. It's already had a fairly substantial re-write for the Mini, hence the delay. But I do recommend that you continue to ask RGL for new features through official channels. My time at RGL is coming to an end but I will be keeping an eye on these forums and will help out when and where I can. Regards, Shaun. This for sure. It's a hassle to always have to bring your USB stick to a PC if you need to add flags. I don't even have a PC in the same room I have my TheC64/TheVIC20 set up. Or at least have the option to enable accurate disk emulation from the filebrowser or something. But the best would be if one were able to rename files on the unit itself. Like some games need _FH to show the full overscan area. Some need _AD. It's a real hassle

My two wants would be:
A way to turn on the _AD flag as well as others from the menu rather than having to do it on the computer. Going back and forth trying different flags is a pain for those images that are stubborn to run.
And I would have to have drive sounds. I see this on other emulators I use and it just adds to the nostalgia factor and would make the experience more complete.
Oh yeah, and a way to turn off the carousel music. Drives me crazy somedays.

There are USB adapters that allows you to use a 1541 drive with a pc but I'm not sure if any or all of them need to run special software on the PC or if the adapter handles all that and it simply presents it's self to the PC as a USB storage device. If it does then good chance it will work on the C64 mini or maxi.
There's also videos by RetroRecipies showing how to use a USB 3.5" disk drive with the mini or maxi, but it won't be using C64 3.5" drive storage formats to where it would be able to read standard Commodore disks.

If we’re still getting firmware updates: Floppy drive device9, device10, and device11 support. i want printer support is this possible As I mentioned above, I'd even be pleased if you could dump printer output to a .txt file onto a USB device (which is something that VICE can already do). Yep. Print to a .txt or even print to something like .bmp or .png would be great. And I think VICE does both print to txt and print to an image
