Concerning the question a few messages back by somebody asking if you can use a 1541 drive somehow with the mini or maxi, besides what possible solutions I mentioned above, I forgot to mention another possible option. In RetroRecipies video about a new C64 OS on his channel a week or two back at the 7:25 time mark he shows and mentions a new device called the Savyour USB to Atari adapter for using modern USB joysticks and other things like the A500 mini mouse (which he uses in the video) with original C64 hardware, and this little device also allows you to plug in a USB thumb drive or a Commodore disk drive to also somehow for whatever reason load those things through the Atari joystick port.
I think he also mentions he's going to be doing a video on it soon. I wonder if it also has the ability to do the reverse, plugging into a modern USB on the mini or maxi and allowing you to plug old Atari joysticks in for use. If that's the case then maybe it will also allow you to use a 1541 drive that way too.
I'm going to see if I can find more information on it. My biggest question is why would you want to be able to use a disk drive through the joystick port on original hardware when you already have a disk drive port?

If we’re still getting firmware updates: Floppy drive device9, device10, and device11 support. As I mentioned above, I'd even be pleased if you could dump printer output to a .txt file onto a USB device (which is something that VICE can already do). Yep. Print to a .txt or even print to something like .bmp or .png would be great. And I think VICE does both print to txt and print to an image I think I remember years ago there was a driver you could load into the C64 before running software you planned to print with that would redirect the output to the printer into a text file on disk. That's a possible solution.

Found the info on this Savyour adapter. Doesnt appear that it will work in reverse on modern USB computers like the mini, but it's features for original hardware look very interesting. Even provides functions like rapid fire for gaming. Still curious though why it also provides a disk drive port, but glancing quickly over their website it appears the mesiah multi midi interfacing hardware they sell might occupy the regular disk drive port so this dongle gives you the ability to use a disk drive or USB storage through the Savyour joystick port adapter? mssiah.com/features.php#savyour

I have wondered if super cpu emulation could be considered? Metal Dust would be played a lot!

I'd love to see them release a 64D, or at least see somebody start making 64D cases and keyboards. Having a detached keyboard would be real nice.

I would like to see support for 'system' cartridges (were on the market for fastloading, added tools and improved GUI, like KCS Powercartridge) In particular KCS Powercartridge, that improved the user friendliness enormously! For instance: it reprogrammed the F-keys to instantly display the contents of a disk and to load one of the entries in the directory (including a fast load option). I really miss that when using TheC64 in Classical mode (the user interface from 1982 now seems even more tedious than it did back then … typing Load”$”,8 and List, etc etc…) I do have *.CRT images of the KCS Powercartridge (I even. have the original one ;-), however to my great disappointment they do not run on TheC64…. Also the KCS Powercartridge had a button on the back that interrupted the regular C64=-execution and gave the KCS-menu options So therefore my request: is it possible to include compatibility with this cartridge in the next firmware release? (alternatively: or does a trick exist to run the cartridge on the current firmware? Or a similar cartridge that does something similN.B.: ar?) FYI: more information on the KCS Powercartridge can be found by searching on the internet, e.g. retro.ramonddevrede.nl/kcs-power-cartridge/CRT can be downloaded from commodore.software/downloads/download/178-utility-cartridges-roms/1058-kcs-power-cartridgeThank you in advance for considering this request,

And more on the topic as well as keys being used to simulate the cartridge button for something like the Snapshot cartridge. Keep in mind in this video he's talking about an older firmware update, so his use of a snapshot method to force the game to swap joystick ports by altering the actual game code isn't needed anymore. With the latest firmware you can just press two buttons on the joystick to switch ports. If you do some more searching for videos related to using cartridges or fast loaders on the mini and maxi I'm sure you'll find even more useful information. I would guess too these key combo presses to simulate a cartridge button to take over the C64 can also be done on the mini by simply plugging in a USB keyboard, and you could probably even assign a button on the joystick to do this key combo without needing a keyboard I'd assume?

Alas, that doesn't work for the KCS Powercartridge .... it will not activate, and the hot button emulation (right-shift + power button) does not work....
Thank you for the suggestion though!
I hope there is another solution... or that it will be supported by a future version of the firmware.

Hi! I'd love a key/button combo as a shortcut to fast save/load state to a default or preset slot. This would make the playing experience much friendlier. Thank you! Jose.
