Any of you guys heard news on the next firmware update?

Nobody has. And I think the whole thing is dead... Why?
They did whatever necessary to sell off their stock. Suspend the the forum to avoid S**tstorm because of bad Joysticks? Check. Have a new firmware out in mere hours because of a multiplayer-bug going viral? Check. They had to, nobody would have bought their machines anymore with a bug like this. But now, they sold their stock. No need to maintain an official forum anymore. Check. No need to spend money for further firmware updates. Check. Take money and leave customers behind: Check.
I am wrong? Just compare their communication BEFORE the Machine was sold an NOW. Forum down, Facebook without news, no Updates, not even a single word about progress... I do not expect much for the future.

You may be right and it would certainly be good to have some news. But hopefully the current silence means they are hard at work on the next update/micro-switch joystick/full size C64

Bear with it. They are working on the releases for the other markets (US, Australia, etc).
The disk image browser should be available soon. Software releases rarely go as smoothly as you hope. I’d rather they take the time to ensure there are no bugs or strange integration quirks.
Remember, they are a very small team.
The Mini is a great product already. New firmware is just going to make it even better for those of us wanting to do more with it.

They(Retro Games) really didn't think no one wouldn't try and mod/hack TheC64 Mini so the games on it could be changed, look at the C64DTV that was moded and the games on it were changed so I don't understand,We bought it so now it's ours to do what we want to do with it.It was only a matter of time.

I think the fact that they left 3 switches internally which seem to be related to re-flashing, shows that the eam had intended for people to hack it.

I don't mind waiting even if renaming files is a royal pain in the butt - it works. Fingers crossed they deliver but yeah bobele could also be right. Can only hope.
The ignorance by them tho is lame and not professional. Oh yeah, as for the 2player update, did anyone notice the build date was ages ago and not the day or week it was released?

New firmware is just going to make it even better for those of us wanting to do more with it. I am by no means pessimistic because development if a new firmware does take it‘s time. I am also aware that they are (were?) a small team. It is their behaviour that we all have seen so many times before on other occasions. They were literally FLOODING us with information prior and while the launch. It was a „We are with you“ and „We are listening“ campaign. People got faith in this small team. And where are we now? They did cancel their official forum because of all the other social network activities. They did not „want to spread thin“ (official annoncement) posting infos everywhere. Yeah. What we gotis a single link to a Zzap64 Kickstarter Campaign. Posting that more than once wozld have spread them very thin. I just have a bad feeling because of the complete silence. I would expect them to tell customers, how they proceed. Nothing else. My two cents: They did not get the full machine ready, came with the mini to avoid the whole thing be a loss, took the money and pulled the plug. Let‘s see what we hear of them, if we do...

Well no one is stopping them posting here and have they no,I agree,I have a bad feeling that, how does Michael Jackson say it "This is it,the final curtain call" It might be down to hacking it that might of killed it.I hope they are working on a update but I don't make sense closing the forum, cause they don't have the time,They would of got a person to keep a eye on it,probably the guy that made the there site and forum.

They were active on the forum though as a number of topics I replied in completely disappeared. The morning I saw the forum was to close I started a new topic saying something like "it was fun while it lasted, see you on the other side..." and they erased it almost straight away! Not forgetting the 2 player fix was answered on the forum by them once it was discovered something was up.
They bothered when it suited them.
Maybe they got fed up deleting stuff... By the time they said it was to close the initial tsunami of posters had started to dry up.

It went live on their website on the 13th. That seems pretty quick considering they would have wanted to do plenty of testing of it as a final build.

I'm the eternal optimist, so please give them a little more time... here's my personal take on this--- I was one of the original backers, I can't remember how long ago I originally contributed $$. In fact, I had not thought about the C64 mini for over a year+, completely forgot, and was looking to build a C64 with a Raspberry Pi Zero... Then, lo and behold, about a month ago, while I was admiring the palm trees here in L.A., a courier delivered a package from the UK -- it was the c64 mini + poster, as promised! So, the C64 team did indeed keep their word, and that is good enough for me. Hopefully there will be more support, upgrades, etc., but for now I'm still satisfied with what they have done so far. Things are going far too slowly of course with the upgrade (and rollout to the U.S.), probably because they lack project management experience and overall poorly organized and ill-prepared for this project... But let's give a little more time, I think they've earned it as they have kept their word so far... Anyway, that's just my 2¢ opinion...

It was during the install process that the build date was different, it said something like Feb this year. To be completely honest I can't remember the date exactly as I only just caught sight of it as I clicked install, like a second... I did think WTF at the time but just carried on to test 2 player mode as it was done. Maybe I misread what I was looking at but don't recall seing 11 in the install process build date. It was earlier this year I'm sure and now I'm thinking maybe it showed the build date of the file I was replacing lol? It's something to keep an eye out for with the next update, we'll be ready for it.

I do hope the update will be released eventually. Never forget that we're talking about using a VICE fork here. VICE comes with a file browser already, albeit not exactly a very fancy one -- it would be more than enough to do the job; would already be tested because it's been in use for years.
I really wish they would enable the emulator menu, and that'd be that. We would be able to make changes to the emulation settings and use any disk files in any combination.
So I just assume they've EITHER got something fancier planned, than the internal browser, or are indeed, trying to make for the exit.
But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Considering that they originally wanted to make a big C64 model, all firmware developments could make it into that, as well, so they'd be working on a future project simultaneously.
On one thing I have to disagree: RG were never very outgoing or communicative to their customers and audience. Not even during the crowdfunder. From the get-go, they were reluctant to show a human being anywhere in their videos, or photos. And then they started name dropping, but at no point did I ever notice these people, supposedly involved, becoming more active. To me, RG games was about as talkative as a dead mouse, the entire time. So .... the forum changed that. A little. They barely ever posted anything. But it looked like they finally had seen the light. Now that their forum is closed, we're back to more or less dead silence. Great.

Yeah, I'll be optimistic and assume that they're trying to make a super-friendly disk selector interface, one that can navigate through disks and their contents via the joystick.

They should of copied the Vega, you press a dedicated set button on the carousel to access your memory stick/card and it displays everything in an A-Z carousel that displays text format of your files, you load your warez that way. Also .tap format should be a must as that way you get to load originals - the way they were meant to be seen. It's just as much fun loading Last Ninja 2 from tape as it is playing the game thanks to the awesome music, loading picture and psychedelic raster bars. The anticipation build-up from tape loading is/was immense! Are you listening Retro Games LTD?

Cool, thanks for sharing! With a bit of luck we'll get some more Gremlin Graphics games like Auf Wiedersehen Monty, Impossamole, Hero Quest, Krakout, Super Cars & Switchblade! Also Jeff Minter's games for 8bits are all freeware and can be used if no money is involved... TheC64 mini team got Jeff to sign a box around release time so you never know, we might get lucky as it would be classed as free in an update.
