As already said we might see extra games added to the machine before any multiple file support, but I guess how long that will take will depend what they have to work with. Rather them than me as there is nothing worse than having to play test something you have no interest in!

Gosh, how long is this going to take? I'm not being unreasonable here, and a simple, working file browser is the only thing the Mini really needs. It can be as bare-bones as they want, the only "features" I need it to have is accessing directories, being able to go through files fast, and many of them. That's it.

The last tantalising hint I read in facebook posts from the c64 team was they said it was "Getting close", posted one day ago, in response to a Q from:
Heikki Mastokangas: "F5 on my keyboard broke off... Any news about firmware upgrade?"
THEC64: Getting close 👍

Hmmm as much as I want the upgrade im happy with the machine itself ..After all I bought all those little arcade sticks ( including the C64 DTV, Atari Flashbacks etc … Non of which play extra games without hacking …
To be honest just buy a real c64 if you want to play all your old games ..

The 1.0.8 update had been around for a long time and I have not even installed it. To me an update is not worth it without multi-file-image support. Hoping the next update will be around soon. Extra built-in games are not particularly useful.

I think we need to hack the firmware and make are own CFW,just need to work out how they make the Carousel Menu and the vice emulator thats built into it ,I know its uses Opengl Es v2 cos it has shaders in one of the folders of the firmware, and work out how they update the firmware via USB.The firmware is partly based on Android for a tablet.
Just as a test I tried to run the Carousel Menu and the vice emulator on a RP3 and it almost ran it but came up with can't find the shader files so its was trying to find the shaders for OpenGles so it looks like to me they have coded this in OpenGLes v2.
What you think good idea, would you use a CFW version on your C64 Mini if the USB browser was added...?

Hopefully cos its coming out on the 2nd October in the US they will release the USB Disk Browser Update(well thats what I call it.. ) at the same time, cos a lot of Americans will not be happy the way the machine is at the moment so RG have to do something to sell it to the US.People will not buy it the way it is at the moment,we have been waiting for it for 4 months. I am getting the impression from there updates on facebook that they will release the USB Disk Browser Update when TheC64 Mini is released in the US.But I could be wrong. This should of been sorted before it was release in the UK.and cos the way the machine is a lot of site are giving TheC64 Mini bad reviews. www.engadget.com/2018/04/06/c64-mini-review/www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/the-c64-miniwww.stuff.tv/c64-mini/reviewwww.gamesradar.com/c64-mini-review/uk.ign.com/articles/2018/03/30/the-c64-mini-reviewIt should of got 5 stars but most are 3 to 3 and a half stars.but still didn't put me off buying it. 2 reason why I bought it.. 1)Its small and a space saver, thats the point of them making it in the first place,it takes less room than a real C64.I needed it for my front room,My C64 is in my Bed Room so I can't use C64 in there all the time because my Partner sleeps during the day.I did use my C64DTV NTSC model on my TV but got TheC64 Mini to replace it and as well I liked the idea of being able to play your own games on it.(Hope that will be fixed soon.) 2) One of the people that was involved from day one was Darren Melbourne – Co-creator of the C64DTV direct to TV C64 games joystick.so I knew it was real.I have 2 C64DTVs,One Pal and the other NTSC. I felt TheC64 Mini was a upgrade from the C64DTV,its has the same games and same Joystick. So in a way it's the C64DTV2 (there was talk about making another one) because TheC64 Mini is Direct To TV too, just its HDMI not Composite,it plugs into your TV,not a monitor, but can if the monitor has HDMI too.

Will be interesting to see his review and hopefully get an early glimpse of the new firmware :-)

It is sold at half price by now but still I'm not willing to buy it without the Firmware Update to improve input lag and multiple game files on one USB memory stick.

i'll get it when its down to 30 euros, cant justify more, regardless of what firmware it has (it wont improve much anyway) Yes it might do,does anyone know how much the C64DTV was when it came out,it came out in 2002,because the lowest price I seen on eBay for it in pounds was £25,so going by that it might lower in price,it will take a long time before it dose, the cheapest I have seen TheC64 Mini go for is £55 on eBay Buy it Now,well thats better than £64.. 10 pound difference. Here are the prices on ebay at the moment for the UK. www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2322090.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=The+C64+Mini+&_sacat=0The US version comes out on the 9th October so will add a link to the the US eBay then. Change the .co.uk to your country like .com for US and it should do the same search but for your country.

it already dropped from initial 79,95 to around 45 euros in various stores here (and some already made special deals where those 45 bucks would include an extra joystick). i'll give it a few month at best and it wont be in the stores anymore at all.

I'm thinking about making compilation of your FUD posts. It is hilarious reading it today! Btw, prove to us - show us, please, where exactly "price dropped around 45 euros in various stores". No need to "include extra joystick". FYI: geizhals.de/retro-games-ltd-the-c64-mini-a1705618.htmlMediaMarkt, Amazon & ebay (Saturn etc) are holding price at 55€ (64$). As I said few months ago, initial recommended price for resellers was 64€, and it will be dropped to 64$ with launching of Mini at USA market. It is happening right now.

or why not do something useful for a change - and request that damn firmware source?
that special deal was at mueller.de (its no more). and no, the initial price was 79,95. no idea why you would claim otherwise. (and what about telling some examples of games that work with fastloaders from d82 images as you claimed?)

Okay, some more words on this s**t...
What we had: A system that needed a single Diskfile on a USB Stick that had to be renamed to a certain name to be accessible from basic.
What we wanted: A Filebrowser that can be started everytime from basic to insert an swap diskfiles that can have every name we desire. At least that. At best we would get some more GUI to do configurations as which Joystick a single attached Joystick should be in the emulator.
What we got: A mostly useless Filebrowser that only lets you start the first file like LOAD „*“,8,1 from a Diskfile. As most Diskfiles contain dozens of Files that only serve as PETSCII Art in the Directory those Files cannot be started. Diskfiles containing more than one Programfiles also cannot be used. Why? Well, you still need Basic to open the directory and load a specific file from the disk. The Filebrowser cannot be user from Basic. For this WE STILL NEED THE SINGLE F***ING FILE WITH THE STUPID NAME ON THE STICK...
Also they did not add necessary comfigurations to the gui but have you ADD SEVERAL CRYPTIC LETTERS TO THE FILENAME or MAKE A CONFIG FILE FOR EVERY SINGLE DISK FILE!! This is BY FAR even MORE HASSLE than before. We still end in renaming files... Is that what they did understand their customers wanted?

Reading the thec64.com/file-loader/ guide, this is DAMN complicated. But MC64 now reads T64 and TAP files, they should be less messy to use I think?

Reading the thec64.com/file-loader/ guide, this is DAMN complicated. But MC64 now reads T64 and TAP files, they should be less messy to use I think? Hi, I just joined the forum to say the same things! It's just slightly better than before, but still has some issues! - First off, of course I added a lot of files to the USB stick, but the C64 Mini only shows the first 18 pages of files. I had to separate everything in alphabetic subfolders. - For no apparent reasons, when browsing some folders the C64 Mini just freezes! They have nothing in common, I just left the D64 file in there, names are both with special characters and not, same for the files. Examples: When entering /BMX_Simulator it freezes, and when entering /Black_Crystal and /Bismark no. I have no idea why! - They said you could remap your joystick and I just saw the guide. Saying it is a NIGHTMARE it's still not enough to describe it! If I understood right you need a single configuration file for every disk where you have to write how you want every button to be remapped to. Or am I wrong? - There is STILL a lot of renaming to do before adding a disk to the C64 Mini. This procedure must be simple and straightforward, this is clearly NOT the way! We come from a generation when we love to tinker with stuff, but still, this is the worst possible way to release a much hyped firmware release. I seriously hope I'm getting all of this wrong and that this update is actually good, but as it is now the only positive things is that sometimes I can load my own d64 pretty easily.

I've read on their Facebook page that also another person has the same problem with crashing. I tried to rename the folder and the file and it still crashes, so it has nothing to do with the filename. Tried to reformat the USB stick, tried to defrag and still nothing. However if I put the same file in the root of the USB it works. Simply, some D64 inside some folders are ok, most are not.

I do not complain much as it is still a bit better than completely closed systems like those mini-Nintendos.
I have not updated the FW in my own 64mini yet, but were response-times also somehow improved? They say so, but can someone confirm?

It seems to crash after using one game and then trying to load another when the filename disappears when you press into the file. No disk swapping either. This was supposed to be tested but it clearly hasn't been. This is really poor considering they said that they had tested it. The main reason I bought one of these was for simplicity, I wish I never bought one and just stuck with VICE as it worked easily.

Post by tyltyl on Oct 8, 2018 22:33:53 GMT
To me it behaves differently. I can load and play the same games several times, but some others not. It seems related to some specific titles or names and not to the fact that I load one after the other. Maybe they are different issues, or the same one acting in two ways.

I don't get it why are you guys so frustrated. There was not " subfolders" or " magic disk-load button" on a real C64. You needed old good BASIC screen and typing load... etc. No game save state slots. Now you have it. Very simple: load NAV once, save it to the game slot ( once), load all disks from there, with joystick, one click on disk icon.
is.gd/nav96 Btw: how many thousands of games you really need to play right here, right now? How hard is to prepare those 50 extra you actually really want to play? But those are already prepared for you! Hundreds of them! gurce.net/c64mini/existing_multi-game_disksAND: This is not the very last firmware, it will be adjusted. Patience, please.
