I am newby to this forum and just started to use the USB Project Carousel. However somehow I cannot get the version with 800+ games. I installed both the pcu 1.4.2 - standalone version both the pcugm 1.6.0 version (on different sticks), but in one case I have only the favourite game folder, on the other case I get the message no files found. Can you please help me what I am doing wrong, which files I have to install on the USB to get the fully working carousel mode with 3 folder of games? Thanks!

PCU game manager is a PC application with a database of the games and images.
Install it to a PC not a USB.
Export games from PCU Game manager database to a folder on your PC. e.g. "mygames"
Copy "mygames" folder then navigate to the USB with PCU 1.4.x on it, paste the folder you copied next to the favourites folder.
Eject the USB
Insert into TheC64
Boot PCU
Wait to see the Carousel
Use Menu 4 and fire or CTRL + F7 to access the Carousel Selector.
You should see "Mygames"
Select that and wait for Carousel to reload and it should have the games you exported.

You have to run the fake update to Boot PCU copy it to the root of your USB Stick then go to Spanner Icon then system Infomation and you will see a fake update in there then click Apply to run PCU.

There's 2 version of PCU... PCU All in One(pcugm-x.x.x-pcu-x.x.x-aio-setup.exe) - It includes PCU and PCU Game Manager but only has the Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites inside PCU, it does not have any of the other screens or games in PCU, they are in PCU Game Manager, the idea is so you can add your own folders and make your own Carousel Gamelist Screens you want with PCU Game Manager. PCU Standalone(pcu-x.x.x-standalone-setup.exe) - This is PCU only and includes all the Carousel Gamelist Screens, 8 screens in all, one hidden and all the games, 800+ games included, if you want all the games to be included in PCU then install/extract this version to your USB Stick. Look in PCU thread on how to install/extract PCU Game Manager to your PCs Hard Drive and PCU to your USB Stick. To run PCU for the first time, you need to run a Fake Update from within the Carousel that in PCU on the root of the USB Stick... Go to Spanner Icon(Device Settings)... then System Information... and you will see a fake update in there called "theC64-9_9_90.bin" then click Apply to run PCU then you will see it go back to the Device Settings Menu for a few seconds, then the screen goes black and then the PCU Splash Screen appear.. You are now running PCU on your Machine.. Then you will see the first Carousel Gamelist Screen appear called Favorites... And that's it, read Favorites screen to change Carousel Gamelist Screen and other info, If you do not want to keep having to run the fake update every time you turn on your machine to run PCU then enabled Autoboot Mode, its in PCU Options Menu(Hold down CTRL-5 keys on the keyboard or Menu(Button 4 on the back of THEC64 Joystick) then press and hold down Right Fire Buttons on THEC64 Joystick and Hold them down for 2 Seconds and the menu with come up), Autoboot Mode is on Page 1 option 8, it copies a small start-up script(the script is safe) to the firmware so when you turn on your machine it autoboots PCU for you. Here it is on the PCU Options Menu I hope this helps... This might help others too so made this announcement so it shows in the Announcement section.

Thanks a lot vic2020ian and Spannernick for the comments, and for the detailed guide! This works really very nice! Now I have three more questions if you don't mind. 1. When I am creating my own carousel with the c64 maxi game tool and then trying to save the firmware I got the message at the end of the process that tar file is not found. So the bin file is not created. Can you please tell me what could be the problem? 2. I am wondering which is the best method to add and use games that are on multiple disks and there are no crt file of that game on the net? I am right that for example if a game has four files, I have to create four game folders with the disk manager (like game part 1, game part 2, etc) in the carousel and then in the folders change the names exactly the same . And then when the game asks to swap disk I have to save and exit, and load from the next disk? Is there a possible solution for updating this process and making it easier in the near future? 3. My last question is that if I save a game position, and turn off the console, and then turn it on again next time the save is gone. I am doing something wrong? Thanks a lot

The c64 maxi game tool is not supported in PCU no more, please use the PCU Game Manager. 2. You maybe find a .crt or a .d81 of the game so you can add them to the Carousel, you have to add .d81 but manually and rename them .d64, but if the game has more disks or more sides then you can load them in Classic Mode or look here on how to add them manually to the carousel. 3. Save games in PCUAE works fine, they are stored in .THEC64SAVE folder on the USB Stick.
