Just uploaded pcuae1.8.5bf1-setup.exe
IMPORTANT You need to deactivate Autoboot Mode first before updating to this version then you can install this then activate Autoboot Mode again.

After launching the fake firmware I am unable to activate autoboot or any modes on 1.8.5bf1, just keeps throwing me back to the firmware when selecting any of the options in the menu. Reverted back to pcuae1.7.6b8 and all working again.

Still unable to move onto the newer pcuae1.8.5bf6 from PCUAE-1.7.6b6. I remove the auto boot script firmware with PCUAE-1.7.6b6 and it says script removed as in the picture. When i install pcuae1.8.5bf6 and boot the custom firmware I now get the carousel on start up but when I select the mode changer and try and enable autoboot the script just throws me back to the mode changer screen every time and I am unable to progress any further. I have tried with a fresh stick and also by overwriting previous installs with no success, can any one help point me in the right direction with this please? Machine used is the C64 Maxi on 1.61 firmware. Attachments:

Its still broke for me unfortunately, can get into PCAUE and the carousel changer but auto boot script is still throwing me back to to the main screen when selecting yes. When I select the no option on the autoboot screen a blue message briefly pops up with a mention of no space left and cant create directory ( sceen shot below) Attachments:

its saying no space left in the device is your stick big enough Yeah its a 32Gb SanDisk with 27.1gb free. This particular error only comes up when you select the no option in the autoboot script. Tried with different freshly fat32 formatted sticks too and had the same problem. If you select yes on autoboot menu then it just continually throws me back to the options screen and nothing is written back to the firmware. When i revert back to PCUAE-1.7.6b8 with the same stick the problem goes away and I can enable autoboot, it just does not work for me on the last few versions unfortunately.

So I tested the new update (pcuae1.8.5bf8) on my Mini and I finally got Autoboot working by - 1) Stop being a numpty. 2) Using the joystick - menu and right fire button combo as I was unable to use a keyboard. This brought up a completely new menu to the one I was seeing on the Maxi previously. On the Maxi I was trying to access autoboot options via the mode changer by using only the keyboard "CTRL and F5" of which the autoboot script does not work from there as it previously did on pcuae1.7.6b8 . I should have used "CTRL and F7" on the later version to get it to work. Doh! One thing I have noticed now I have managed to install the autoboot script to the firmware is that when you then try and remove the autoboot script from firmware the uninstaller looks for older scripts ( of which I removed earlier using pcuae1.7.6b8) and says it is then removing the older script of which shouldn't be there? It does not progress any further and the new autoboot script now seems stuck in my firmware as I am unable to remove it. (UPDATE) PCUAE-1.8.5b9 now working for me. The autoboot script can now be removed using the autoboot option in the mode changer "CTRL and F5" but still wont remove from the PCAUE options "CTRL and F7"

Well for unknown reason I can't get this actual version working
PCUAE Manager : 2.5.1 PCUAE Version : 1.9.0b4 and 1.9.0b5
I am a user of PCUAE Version 1.5.2 so I removed the Autoboot script with PCUAE 1.5.2 first and turned off autoboot this way.
Installing PCUAE Manager 2.5.1 on my HDD went fine, also installing PCUAE Version 1.9.0b4 & b5 on a fresh formatted FAT32 USB Stick. Exported the Favorites_1 as suggested on the USB stick into the right Folder.
Now if I execute the Fake update 9_9_0 then the system went to a blue screen and it wants to install autoboot script, but during the installation this message shows up:
can't stat `/tmp/pcu/Carousel_Games/Options/boot/autobootfirmware no such file or directory
Afterwrds it says autoboot script installed but it restarts every time with the original RGL firmware
What's going wrong here?! Clueless at the moment..
greetings, A.

Hi, I am having the exact same problem when trying to install autoboot on a brand new theC64 (Maxi) updated to the last FW: it won't install as the installer fails to find a file (see the attached screenshot).
Even launching pcuae won't work for me. When I manually start it with the fake update, the carousel won't launch as everything will hang when showing the Project Carousel USB Carousel Edition screen (just after the US national anthem being played), and then nothing happens... Notice that my flashdisk is correctly formatted in FAT32 fs and with MBR. I even tried two different ones with the exact same result... Sam

I had a simialr issue going from an older PCUAE to a newer version as few of the auto boot options seemed to have been moved. Try again from scratch and after executing the fake firmware when the machine has rebooted press the joystick - menu and right fire button together or "CTRL and F7" This will bring you into PCAUE options, try and execute autoboot from there and see if it works for you.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Nothing happens. The only key combination that works (when the pcuae screen is showing) is CTRL+F1. It shows the carousel selection menu. But whichever I chose, wether it is favorite 1, 0-H C64, or any other, it ends up with a black screen, and nothing more...

It should be fixed now in the next update 1.9.0b6, I hope... Hi and thank you for your amazingly quick answer and software update. I just installed your new 1.9.0b5, and unfortunatly, it seems not to be settled yet. When installing autoboot, the installer dosent tell me a file is lacking anymore, which I first thought was a great sign. Instead, it asks me to wait, and then, after a few seconds, without showing the screen when it tells that autoboot was successfully installed and that a reboot would occur, it reboots. Sadly, the autoboot is still not installed, and I end up in the normal carousel, each time I boot, wether the flashdisk is plugged or not.
As before, even when I manually launch pcuae with the fake update, I am still stuck at the pcuae screen and the carousel never shows up (even if I wait for a very long time). CTRL+F7 still doesn't work, and nothing that I can do seems to help... I attached the picture showing the screen where I am stuck.
Thank you for everything you do for us.

it boots if you remove TheCarousel_4All_v1.3.2_enabled and TheCarousel_Amora_v1.6.1_enabled in the this folder Carousel_Games\Options\PCUAE_Mode Thank you for your help.
I just reinstalled my flashdisk from scrach, and removed the two files as suggested. Unfortunatly, the result is the same: autoboot still doesn't work when the flashdisk is inserted, trying to install autoboot results to the same strange behavior with the reboot occuring right after the "please wait" screen without showing the success message (I attached the last screen just before the reboot), and more importantly, when booting on PCUAE manually with the false firmware, the computer still hangs on the pcuae screen. So no progress yet...

Well... that did not go well... This time, autoboot installed correctly, and booted automaticly when the flashdisk was in... but still nothing after the national anthem and PCUAE screen. Worst (really worst), my TheC64 doesn't boot anymore at all when there is no flashdisk. The red led lights up, but no hdmi signal at all... So I can't boot to stock firmware at all. Did I just brick my machine?

One more thing: If a delete the favorite 1 folder from my flash disk, and boot with it, then PCUAE will boot, and pass the PCUAE sreen. I am then shown the carousel (with stock games only of course). But I can't access my flash disk from there (and thus can't run a script) as when trying to access it, I am told my disk couldn't be accessed. I tried to remove it and plug it again, but the computer then froze...

You're trying to help, you are certainly not to blame. The links for downloading the nand and fel boot software seem to be broken. Should I find them anywhere else ? Is the "Restore toolkit backup" the same ?

Ok, I mangaed to find the files and to do all the required steps for my c64 maxi rescue. It is now unbricked. What a relief! I think I am going to stick to the stock firmware for now, and wait a bit before messing again with my little computer Thanks again for everything.

I found another bug... When it scans for Favorites 1 folder to load PCUAE Mode it would copy the switch.sh file wrong and stop the carousel loading, the code has now been removed cause it didn't work properly, it will still look for Favorites 1 folder but will not change switch.sh file, I changed the switch.sh file to look for Favorites 1 folder now, if no Favorites 1 folder then it will load the carousel in the firmware and not PCUAE Mode. I think there was a clash with it copying the file over and enabling Gadget Mode USB Mode at the same time. Its fixed now... Sorry about that.

I just launched PCUAE via the fake update (without installing the autoboot) and after a few seconds, the carousel loaded!!!!! One small question, when in PCUAE mode, it will show me the usb icon, but if I click on it, it tells me that it can't access the files in the flash disk. I also tried to plug a second flash disk to see if it would access it, but it won't. Is it the normal behaviour in this mode? I have to confess I'm a bit affraid to try installing autoboot again, as it already bricked my C64Maxi today, so... maybe another time Anyway: THANK YOU AGAIN!

If the built-in Carousel does not boot, do not worry, it just a bug in it that I never saw at the time before I released PCUAE so your machine is not broken and the carousel works fine its just do not have the right start-up line to tell it to load it if the PCUAE USB Drive is not inserted.

Its a bug thats I have not fixed yet, I need to tell it to umount the usb stick in the code after it loaded everything and just before the carousel loads up so it can see the content on it, Media Access(MA) should work ok, you need that more cause of Disk Swapping, thats why I have not got round to fixing it yet cause MA works.

So I tried again with 1.9.0 B6 - This time the autoboot installer when fake firmware is executed doesn't give me the error message anymore, and it autoboots now again. So far so good, but now there is another problem. The system starts now with the new RGL Bootscreen and music from a novaload US Gold loader, it switches to the "Project Carousel USB Anniversary Edition" Splashscreen, the music cuts then after a few seconds and nothing happens anymore. So it doesn't load past the PCUAE Splashscreen. Booting the machine without the USB Stick does nothing (it only boots with USB Stick installed) but you told us this already before greetings A.

Another try with 1.9.0 B7 .. This time it gets finally past the PCUAE Splashscreen and it boots into the PCUAE carousel :-) Without PCUAE stick the machine will still not start, but I assume that will be fixed in the next version...

What I noticed with 1.9.0 B7:
The machine is running always in 60Hz, it doesn't matter if you change the machine back to PAL, it's still always 60 Hz, you hear that by the music is playing too fast.
Edit: OK I found that has to be changed in PCUAE Options menu on Page2, but there is another problem now. It's not possible to leave the PCUAE Option Menu anymore. If I select "Exit" it jumps straight back to the "PAL/NTSC changer" menu. I had to turn off the machine to get out of this.
greetings, A.

If you get stuck at anytime, press CTRL+RESTORE, it will restart the machine Menus are now exiting OK just fixed them, yes mine is on 60hz too, you can change it in the Options Menu, it uses its own settings file thats why cause it changes it when you switch hertz, its the only way I could get it to work, I noticed the settings.dat files were different for 60hz and 50hz so I swapped them and realised I could change the hertz that way, it sets the mode in there too, so can change from Carousel Mode to Classic Mode too by changing the settings.dat file, you see the change in a hex editor when you compare them. Maybe there is something wrong with me, when I work on something I like to know how it all work even under the hood... well I am Dyslexic and Autistic so why I go on abit with a answer... I can send a update out now if you want me too, I think I fixed everything now...?

Hello Nick,
thank you..., and yes please send the update. Do you fixed the Bootscript too, so the machine will boot in RGL firmware when no stick is applied? Does we need to Enable Autoboot again, so the current script will be updated with the new one?
greetings A.

Yes updated Autoboot... If you deactivate Autoboot then reactivate it again, make sure when you deactivate it you let it reboot and bring up the firmware carousel first before taking out the USB Drive, it didn't reboot before when you deactivated Autoboot, now it does to make sure the carousel in the firmware works properly after it removes the Autoboot Start-Up Script. Simon The Sorcerer Talkie Version has been added, to load it press and hold CTRL and then press key 2 in Amiga Mode.
