When I boot PCU and change to fw 1.5.2 by CRTL+F5, I can still select files from my non-carousel games download folder on the same usb stick. However, as soon as I switch to one of the other carousel screens by CTRL+F7, the folder disappears. Any idea how to circumvent that?

@lunever That was what I asked in my post that was 4 posts ago: - The USB Select Screen messes up. -- There seems to be some bugs in the new selector screens. I haven't tried it yet, but I was told to try CTRL-F5 (or any version) again to reset (re-load) the Carousel. Or CTRL-O may work. I'll test that later.

I just tested it and I can't get File Loader to show no files, I have tried v1.3.2 and v1.5.2 and it still showing files on the usb File Loader after using the Carousel Gamelist Selector.
I have speeded up the CG Selector now to 6 to 8 seconds so it takes 4 to load the CG Selector up and 6 to 8 seconds for it to load a Carousel Gamelist.
When its loading a gamelist I have to tell it where the save games are, in what folder cause the CG Selector changes it every time it runs, it runs its own script it builds so I have to fool it into thinking its still doing it but had to put a script in it to run first so that why it takes abit of time to load the Carousel Gamelist Screen when you pressed fire on it and the blank splash screen to take 2 to 3 seconds too, the splash screen is still there its just blacked out, I might put a Please Wait... or Loading... there, not sure yet.
I am using THEVIC20 with PCU.

I am using THEVIC20 with PCU. I am too but also the C64 Mini - it will likely be a little slower on the mini due to different system on chip processor. Nick - does the number of folders or games in folders slow it down much? I guess the first time it has to build images.... Could you detect by file time stamp or other clever trick if a folder has changed and conditionally skip some tasks for a faster second load? Alternatively could you add a manual scan button / Ctrl+key for the games directories rather than automatic after first boot with a flag?

What is your model of your machine, the users that hare having a problem with file Loader and the Carousel Selector...?
You can reboot the machine with CTRL-RESTORE and if you enable Autoboot, its in the PCU Option Menu(CTRL-5) then when you reboot you will not need to run the update to boot PCU up, it will boot up PCU by itself.
Autoboot disabled by default, but was thinking if you use a feature that needs it then it will enable it automatically, like Gadget Mode needs it when it reboots.
One way of stopping this is if you want to load a game from the file loader don't load a game from the CG Selector screen but its weird cause all works fine here, I try all 3 Carousels as well including THEC64 Mini Mode.
I loaded a carousel, CTRL-F3,F5 and then F7 to change Carousel Gamelist and then go back to the File Loader(USB ICON) and my usb stick is in there(Carousel_Games, extragames folders and so on), no files missing or it saying "Can't read usb stick" weird.

I have the C64 Maxi and was running CTRL-F3 version. It has the error even if I only open 1 CGS page.--when I went to the USB icon it is empty. I couldn't use Joy Left to go up a directory. I just updated to the newest TheC64 .bin file to make sure I was OK there. I enabled autoboot again, it has the same issues and the Ctrl-F3 doesn't fix the USB problem. CTRL-5 doesn't seem to work on any of the versions but CTRL-F5 by the way. --How do we load the C128 GEOS file? I know how to boot in to VICE but it asked for a file name. What directory does it look at if you know? Attachments:

I have a TheC64 maxi, with FW 1.5.2 I have PCU on a 64GB FAT32, my classical non-PCU folder is on the same stick (separated alphabetically unto several folders each containing about 250 files). As long as I stay in the default PCU favourites, I can also select the USB icon and access my classical non-PCU game folders. As soon as I select some other PCU screen (from the 7 unmodified carousel screens), I can still select the USB, but my classical game folders are not shown anymore, I need to reboot to access them.
Slightly offtopic: In the carousel screen mode I can move the mouse pointer with the mouse connected to a KVM switch, however, I cannot use a mouse button to select a screen. Also I cannot use the 2nd joystick to select a screen, only the primary joystick. However my USB stick with PCU and the classical games folder is not connected via the KVM, it is connected directly to the TheC64.

In the manual it says clearly in bold page 89.. " USB STICK CAPACITY UP TO 32 GB" so if your using a 64GB USB Stick then you will have reading problems. And on page 54 "Press fire to open the highlighted folder and reveal its contents. If there are no further folders or compatible files, then ` No files found` displays." If there was a problem reading the USB stick it would say ` Can't read usb stick` I only use a 1, 2 or 4 GB USB Stick or SD Card with mine, you don't really need loads of games on it and you can hold alot games on a 5 to 10GB stick, so you don't need a big stick.. When Carousel Selector changes Carousel Gamelists, all its doing is overmounting the games folder in the firmware with the one on the USB Stick so it don't touch the rest of the stick so its only changing one folder the games folder, Linux can overmount folders and change the content of that folder but only the folder you told it to do. So you might be using the wrong USB Stick that too big.

To get the system up and running, you will load and run the first file, either GEOS or GEOS128 depending on your system. With JiffyDOS, simply hold the left SHIFT key and press RUN. Without JiffyDOS, do the following:
LOAD"GEOS",8,1
or
RUN"GEOS128",U8 Or substitute 9 in place of 8 if you're booting from device 9.
You can't load in in the carousel, I include it so you could load it in C128 VICE.

Thank you.
I use a 4GB stick, so that isn't my issue.
I reformatted and downloaded and installed the standalone version today just to see if I had done something, but it does the same thing.
A power off and on fixes it. I was hoping it was some code amiss. I never had an issue before so it has to be something that changed with this new menu selection.

A power off and on fixes it. I was hoping it was some code amiss. I never had an issue before so it has to be something that changed with this new menu selection. Its the first time I have seen it and only 2 users are having this problem, this is what's in the switch.sh that the carousel Selector makes itself. mkdir -p /tmp/pen/2_C64_H_to_R/saves umount /usr/share/the64/games umount /var/lib/the64/profile/0/saves mount --bind /tmp/pen/2_C64_H_to_R /usr/share/the64/games mount --bind -o rw /tmp/pen/2_C64_H_to_R/saves /var/lib/the64/profile/0/saves umount /mnt the64 & (mkdir)First one is where the save are made if you save a game in the Carousel, I was able to change that in switch2 script I made so it points to .THE64Save folder on the USB Stick the 2 umounts just unmount the saves and games folders on the firmware (mount --bind /tmp/pen/2_C64_H_to_R /usr/share/the64/games) this mount the folder you click on in the selector, this why it has to make it own script so it points to right folder The next mount --bind is the save folder but I remove that in switch2 script. (umount /mnt) that unmount mnt but there no mnt mounted so don't do anything. That it really Hold on....are you running PCU via a update, it uses the mnt folder to read the files on the USB Stick so if this script unmounts it you would get no files in File Loader... oh.. ok... can you run PCU with Autoboot and it should work and stop doing it, it cause your running PCU from a fake update not via Autoboot, you need to enable it in the PCU Option Menu then it will boot PCU itself. I could get my script to mount mnt again but then when you run Autoboot it would have the same problem and not be able to read the usb stick so you would get `Can't read USB stick`, most uses use Autoboot now, I do, Autoboot was enable by default but users wanted it disabled for some reason, so that why PCU is not working properly, it needs Autoboot enabled. I might have to make Autoboot enabled by default cause things are not working properly without it cause your only meant to run the fake update once.

I can not add anything to the Carousel Selector, I do not have the source code for it, all I did was I mod it to work in PCU by playing around with its script.
I can not add anything to TheCarousel's included in PCu cause I do not have the source code for them, I only have the code for 1.0.5 carousel(CTRL-F1).

That was part of it before, but I had reloaded, enabled Autoboot and still had the issues. They seem to not be all the time though since I played with it today and it worked.
The PCU Game manager doesn't default to allowing .D81 disks. I put Wizard on to 1 .D81 disk, had it working in Vice but when I exported it to the USB it doesn't run on the Carousel. The actual .D81 disk does though but the .D81.gz file is smaller.
Does the Carousel allow zipped or gzipped .d64 and .d81 disks? or perhaps .D82 ones too?
If we make new games for TheC64 are you interested in them for release?
The code looks pretty straight foreword.

I found what was causing it now and just fixed it, when you run the fake update it was running part of the code from autoboot too so knocking out mnt/ so no files in the file loader... I had to look at putty uart to find it and what it was doing at booting up PCU from Fake update. I upload it tomorrow. got to go to bed now. Post on the PCU Game Manager thread about the D81 problem. Mine it was even worse, I didn't need to run the Carousel Gamelist Selector to see "No files" as soon as I ran it with the fake update, it showed "No files" in File Loader, I could not at first see why it was doing it, it took me all day it find the bug and fix it.

Yes gzipped files gz only but you can run D64, D81,Tap,Prg,D82 and crt as well, it use the image driver in VICE so can only loads images, it can't see a directory.
It use to be able to see a directory but was changed when the File Loader was made, if you run the first version of the Carousel v1.0.5(CTRL-F1) that can read a directory, I got it to work with Fibr, Fibr don't work in any of the other Carousels.

Will it read the gzipped .d64 files from the usb icon's file loader? I think I asked that wrong. I know the Carousel games screen used the .gz files.

Don't think it will show, you can run a snapshoot file, a .vsf file and change its name to .prg so you could try a gz file in file loader but rename it to .prg and see if it runs it.

I have fixed the problem now with running PCU from a fake update and you can't see the files in File Loader and Media Access, they should work now, but if you run Autoboot you will not be able to see the files from the USB Stick in File Loader but can see them in Media Access(Classic Mode), I have not worked out yet what's happening there at the moment but better then nothing.. Its uploaded now version v1.4.1.

What do you mean by Media Access? I usually like to access them by the USB icon/File loader. I guess I will stay on this version.

Classic Mode is on all machines now, its just been added to THEC64 Mini, its so you can play multi disk games(disk 1, disk 2, disk 3 and so on), you can't do that in the File Loader. Classic Mode is under Spanner icon.. its like BASIC that was on the Carousel but has a different file loader call Media Access.

GOOD NEWS, I fixed the bug... so now you can see the files from the USB Stick from File Loader and Classic Mode(Media Access) in Autoboot Mode or from Fake Update Mode.... I figured, if its working in Fake Update Mode(running PCU from a Fake Update) then I should get Autoboot to boot it the same way so I got Autoboot to boot the start.sh instead and now its working.. Thanks god... I will Upload v1.4.2 today.
