No I was not saying a boot menu, we have the PCU Option Menu already and if you enable Autoboot and press CTRL-5 or Menu(4) Button and Left Fire Button at booting up the machine. it will boot the PCU Option Menu before the GUI boots up. We have already... "Enable or Disable 50Hz or 60hz Display(PAL OR NTSC Mode)", all I was saying is a option for Classic mode, so it enables 50hz or 60hz display for Classic mode, so you could have "11 Enable or Disable Boot Carousel Mode 50Hz or 60hz Display(PAL OR NTSC Mode)" and "12 Enable or Disable Boot Classic Mode 50Hz or 60hz Display(PAL OR NTSC Mode)" I only add a option where the option is a toggle switch so it switches between 50hz and 60hz. Another idea I had is... I might as well add a option to Firmware Mode where you can boot it from the Nand or USB stick so the Firmware is running from the USB Stick instead so if you update it, it keeps the original firmware the same so if you don't want to update the firmware for some reason or to test firmware updates... good idea at all, anyone would be interested in that..? I could do it the same as how XWM works so use a img file of the firmware, it does work, I did try it about 6 months ago as a test and see if it would work. I think the next boot mode menu is a clearer option so you can bypass PCU until reactivated if wanted. I like the idea of a firmware test mode. It would avoid being patched out of being able to use PCU ;-)

OneLoad in Version 2 has over 1000 games that simply load extremely fast if you just put them on a USB stick. No reason to put them in the Carousel really.

Will be doing the Classic Mode 50hz/60hz switch today and adding it to the PCU Option Menu so look out for a new version -1.3.7, this is for the users that might want to use PCU without the carousel... so more for the c64 real feel.. Adding another new option too... "16. Disable or Enable RGL Splash Screen" You can't complete hide it on THEVIC 20, cause of the "(c) 2020 Retro Games Limited" at the bottom of the screen, it's in the64 file, not part of the splash screen(don't know why they put it there, when most people know who want to know, who made THEVIC20.. lol, its not on THEC64 Mini or Maxi), I could see if I could see it in HxD Hex Editor and hack the64 file, if the copyright text is in the64 then you should be able to see the text then remove it unless the text is encrypted.

Would anyone like a version of PCU with no games so just for users who want to just use Classic Mode and the feeling of it been as close as a real C64/VIC20 as possible, I could call it Project Classic USB, PCU still...lol...? I am been serious btw.. the name made me laugh.. its not a joke, it would use the same options as PCU and the PCU Option Menu, but have to remove the options for Carousel Mode, if you did try to use Carousel Mode it would crash, cause I can, I think, disabled it, I have a way too. Would need to know if anyone would want it or not first...? I think its a good idea. I could still included games, by adding them to the extragames folder. I do understand why some users don't like the carousel, I am trying to accommodate for everyone thats uses THEC64 Mini/Maxi/VIC20 now, I do like the Carousel, it was the one thing that attracted me to THEC64 Mini, it is different to my C64C, I already have so, if I wanted to go old school and play games the old way(with real games on cassette or disks with a 1541 disk drive) I can use my C64C to do it, I do have a Easy Flash 3 and a SDIEC, UK1541 too.. .

Project Classic No Carousel (PCNC) could be interesting for a purer retro feel to using the modern machines.
Personally I don't think I would use it over using PCU and switching to classic mode or setting next boot to classic mode if you go that route.

Perfectly agree with you. The main feature in the use of "RetroGames" products is precisely the use of the Carousel mode, together with the immediacy in the use of the machines connected to a TV. In my opinion PCU must continue on this path, developing the Carousel with the many changes already made and future ones, otherwise just use a common pendrive with the game ROMs to be launched manually on the various TheC64mini/maxi and TheVic20 or use one of the many emulators available on PC or even better the original hardware for those who own one.

OK cool, I will not make a different version but if you do want to use PCU without the games and the carousel, download the All in One pack the games are not in PCU, there are in PCU Game Manager, PCU AIO version only has the Favourite Screen, to disable Carousel Mode all you need to do is remove the games in fav folder and the carousel will stop working, it will freeze, but make sure you are in Boot Classic Mode first. You can now Boot into Classic Mode or Carousel Mode in the PCU Option Menu and it will change the hertz(50hz PAL or 60hz NTSC) at the same time... just finish it and all is working... you can hide the splash screen too now, I added it for Classic Mode.

Hi!! I'm a total noob to PCU. Sorry if this has been addressed already: Just tried adding a game to it in Windows and I got the java issue below. Is this related to some kind of permissions issue because the app is installed in the Program Files folder?
Thanks in advance! Alejandro

Run as Administrator, Right Click on pcugamemanager.exe or shortcut on the desktop and click on Run as Administrator, you could use the Compatibility Tab and tick on Run as Admin there too so it remembers next time, I forgot about Admin rights...

It don't install it, it not registered with Windows so you don't have to install it into Program Files, and I tried to change it in Advance Installer and you can't, I add the info to the installer the next time I update it.
You could install it into C:\Games.

Worked out how to change the folder from C:\Programe Files\ to C:\Games now.. Sorted it, just uploaded PCUv1.3.7.. its the same names for the files, pcu-standalone-setup and pcu-aio-setup, if you right click on pcu-standalone-setup.exe and go to Properties and Details Tab you see it says 1.3.7.

Just added THEC64 Mini Mode, if you press CTRL-8 it boots THEC64 Mini Carousel from v1.5.2 on the THEC64 Maxi/VIC20, got the idea from this post... thec64community.online/thread/843/request-support-disk-swap-c64miniIt already does this when your using PCU on THEC64 Mini, if you press CTRL-F5 it will boot up THEC64 Mini Carousel from v1.5.2. I was looking for a picture of Device Settings with Classic Mode in it for THEC64 Mini and couldn't find one so quickly made a script in PCU to boot up THEC64 Mini Carousel from v1.5.2 on my THEVIC20... Funny thing is TheC64 Mini Carousel runs the same speed as if it was running on a THEC64 Mini... It takes just as long to boot up between the PCU Splash Screen and the Carousel appearing, so shows that THEC64 Mini Carousel is slower than THEC64 Maxi/Vic20 Carousel versions, they boot up faster between the PCU Splash Screen and the Carousel appearing, you can clearly see the pause before the carousel appears on THEC64 Mini or in THEC64 Mini Mode in PCU. The time it takes for the Carousel to appear after the Splash Screen. THEC64 Mini = 6 seconds THEC64 Maxi/VIC20 = 2 seconds It could be they never optimised the time between the RGL Splash Screen and the Carousel appearing on the C64 Mini Carousel, Classic Mode could do the same when you boot it automatically on THEC64 Mini. Or maybe it needs to take longer cause its running on a A20.

PCU AIO now make a back up of PCU and copies it to C:Games under the Backup - PCU folder so you have a copy of it there to not just on your USB Stick. When you go to install PCU Standalone and PCU AIO it will start your web browser automatically and bring up this forum, and show you info on it in a hidden post. just minimize your web browser when it does it and continue with installing of PCU..

What on THEC64 Maxi..? does it do it about every 17 minutes..? I think it might be the soundtracks, I noticed a flicker on the basic scrrren when it would change soundtracks, turn it off via the PCU Option Menu and see if it does it still, I might have to do the soundtracks a different way. Think I might of sorted it, when it would change to a different wav file I would get it to umount it first, and it sometimes it didn't do that and says wav file was busy so I removed the umounts and it seems ok now no flash on Basic screen.. so looking good, I keep my THEVIC20 on all day to test PCU and if it don't crash if it kept on for a long time. Silly me, I can't umount the wav file cause its playing it, where is my brain... so it tries to and then makes the64 file crash. I upload the new files soon

Hi Nick, I still have to try v1.3.8 but I think that on this thing not much has changed since v1.3.7: is it possible during installation on a usb stick, ask to format it? Because otherwise you have to manually delete all content before installation each time or manually format it. In my case I use a personal database and delete the one installed by default, it would be more convenient.

To do that I would have to register it with Windows so it in Add/Remove so it uninstalls it first before installing it(the setup can not format the USB Stick) but then you will not be able to copy over the top of the files, you should be able to go over the top of 1.3.7 with 1.3.8 but make a backup first of your USB Stick, just in case anything goes wrong, to copy over PCU on the USB Stick, the setup needs a USB Stick 2GB or more, if you use a 1GB USB Stick and PCU is on it already it will not do it, the setup will complain about not enough disk space.

Ok Nick, thanks for the clarification. I use an 8GB microSD in a USB adapter so I don't have space problems. Basically I tried to install 1.3.8 on 1.3.7 and then I replaced the contents of the Games folder with my database and
everything works fine. Is it possible to memorize the volume setting selected with the CTRL + CRSR (DOWN and RIGHT) keys so that it does not reset when the carousel is changed or when the machine is restarted?

No, as soon as it reloads the Carousel or starts the emulator, it turns up the volume to 100%, its the carousel controlling the volume.
Thinking about it, I might be able to get it to remember at start up, I have a look into it for you but not sure if I can do anything if you run the emulator cores cause when it run the emulators it resets the volume to 100%.
