The PCUAE and Game Manager tools are fantastic for TheVic20, thank you.
I haven't seen this asked before on the forum so will make a request here.
Please can we have more Carousel options for the Vic20 and the C64?
One way to accomplish this could be:
Carousels for C64 on CTLR Q,W,E,R,T,Y,U,I,O & P and Carousels on the Vic20 on CTRL A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L
Even better would be a mode switch CTRL 1 for C64, CTRL 2 for C64 then CTRL A to Z for 26 Carousel each with 225 games per machine!
With the new PCU Game Manager it should be easy to Filter e.g. Vic20, A and export to a folder and drag this to a Vic20 A folder etc.
How big and flexible can you make it Nick?
Thanks again for all the hard work.
Best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2021.

Do this press CTRL-2 and see if the carousel load 0 to G screen for me, you should be able to do that even if it freezes, I change the wav file in 0_fav folder that was doing this so did you install PCUAEv1.20 on a empty USB Stick.? Thanks for the quick reply, I confirm that i installa PCUAE on a empty USB stick and, like you suggest, by pressing the relative taste combinations the other Carousels work perfectly, music included, but the favorite carousel does not...I tried to change the music (the wav file) by applying the music file from another carousel , but the problem arises anyway: while waiting to understand what is the problem, is it possible to set the Carousel 0-G by default instead of the favorite one? Thanks again and see you soon

Its not that easy, I have to put a load of shortcuts in the code for each letter, 26 of them, plus for Vice-20 to, there not enough keys, I might do something in the future but, it would be a lot of work to do , i might have a idea on how to do this, but not sure if it work so keeping it under my hat for now...

Can the current C64 a to z Carousels run Vic20 games or just C64? The Vic20 single carousel is insufficient. If not the perhaps a Vic20 version of PCUAE is needed. For the future, could all the other commands run from a Carousel selection or a popup menu rather than CTRL plus a key? It seems a shame to sacrifice lots of potential Carousel opportunity for commands that many might not use. Alternative suggestion could be indexed Carousels e.g. Switch to Vic20 with CTRL 5 then page through additional carousels with CTRL + and CTRL - Thanks for making it possible though I need more for TheVic20 ;-)

What version is your Mini, mine are PAL, version 1 with TOSHIBA nanda chip and Version 2 with a ESMT nand chip..? I have never tested PCUAE on a NTSC Mini yet, I don't have one, If anyone is using PCUAEv1.20Beta2 and it works on your NTSC Mini let me know so I know it works OK on it..? It sounds like you are using the older version of PCUAEv1.20beta, there is now PCUAEv1.20Beta2 out that fixes this problem.

PCUAE is in PCUAE Zipped folder and its just been updated, it named PCUAEv1.20b3.exe, its a self extract archive, made by 7zip so you can unzip it with 7Zip too, its not a zip no more cause 7zip compress it into a smaller achieve and less errors(it was 1.15GB, now its 892mb) and makes it easer to extract it, for Windows uses cause you can only use a PC to copy it to a USB Stick safely without errors anyway or in Linux, you can use Wine to run the exe file or the unarchive program that comes with Linux. I will be removing the games from PCUAE eventually, now that PCU Game Manager can hold them(no point having them in 2 places), all you do is export them from PCUGM to PCUAE, don't worry, I will show you how when the time comes.. Some changes are going to be happening to PCUAE in the coming months, more info nearer to the time, so got to keep it under my hat for now but you will like it...

I am very curious how it will turn out. At the moment I am collecting a lot of games, I will also soon learn how I can insert everything. We'll wait and see, secretly I keep my 1.19 and 1.2 version in the safe :-)

Beta 3 and the new Game Manager seem to work very well. Thank you Spannernick and lantzelot. I look forward to the new features, especially more carousels for the Vic20. Let me know if you need any help beta testing. BTW - Can I put Vic20 games on the C64 Carousels? - going to try that myself now. Cheers Ian

Hi Spannernick, I downloaded V1.20beta3 to test it and I realized that unlike the V1.19 there is no "languages1" folder in the various carousels, which contained the .msg files for system messages in various languages, is this normal? Congratulations again for the continuous updates!

Do not need them no more, they were for changing the carousel screens by fake update.

SOMEBODY HAVE ORYGINAL EUROPEAN NAND FROM THEC64 MAXI TO SEND VIA EMAIL? Did you do the update 1.4.2 while booted into the PCUAE? If so you need to remove the Project Carousel PCUAE USB stick Reboot TheC64 Check firmware version (Settings, System Information) Do you see Build theC64-1.4.2-ares Build date 04-11-2020 16:25:53 If not download the 1.4.2 firmware onto the root directory of a blank USB and try reinstalling. If you do see the correct Build then look for the Games Barnsley Badger and Soulless, plus VIC20 games Blue Star and The Keep to the European THEC64 and THEVIC20 “Special Edition THEC64” models

mmm... it looks like the carousel is load up twice, you see the logo flicker 2 times...weird, did you copy it clean so there was nothing on the USB stick, not copy over a older version PCU..? I be releasing the next version soon so hopefully that will sort it... Try this...(The Carousel Gamelist Selector should be still running the background) press CTRL and F3 to reload the Carousel, it should then work...? Language on movie is other than english, there is a problem or not?

SOMEBODY HAVE ORYGINAL EUROPEAN NAND FROM THEC64 MAXI TO SEND VIA EMAIL? if you had PCUAE running and run the update you will be going over the files in PCUAE with the update so you need to reinstall PCUAE on the Usb Stick again cause the update would of gone over one of the PCUAE's Carousels, cause update v1.4.2 updates the Carousel and c64 Emulator from v1.3.2 to v1.4.2. You can stop PCUAE from Autobooting by pressing CTRL-7, then turn off THEC64 Mini/Maxi/vic20 and take out usb stick and plug in to PC, copy theC64-1_4_2.bin to the root of usb stick, and delete theC64-9_9_90.bin now plug it back into your machine and turn it on, now you can update the firmware, one done check to see if its ok, it should reboot after update, if all ok then turn off machine take out usb stick and put back in PC then delete theC64-1_4_2.bin from the root of the usb stick then go to Carousel_games/Fake Update Store/ on usb stick and you will find the fake update in there, copy theC64-9_9_90.bin from that folder to root of usb stick, now put usb back in machine and turn it on and go to wrench icon--->system information and run fake update to boot PCUAE, once booted press CTRL-7 to enable Autoboot so PCUAE Autoboots when you turn on the machine again and your done..

I tested beta 3 and you can put Vic20 Games on the C64 Carousels just fine.
That will overcome the initial capacity constraint of one Carousel for TheVic20 for now. I can use 2 USB Sticks, 1 for C64 and 1 for Vic20 for a speedy changeover and 4 carousels per machine.
Hopefully we can get to more Carousels for both TheC64 and TheVic20 in a future release.
Reserving CTRL A to Z and CTRL 0 or 1 for use by Vic20 and by C64 carousels somehow would be an improvement for use with a larger database and faster searching.

Hello @spannernick! Thanks so much for working on this project, this is great! I'm obviously coming pretty "late to the party" here, but better late than never! I got my The C64 maxi about a year ago shortly after launch, and have just been using the built-in games, or loading others through mounted d64 files. I look forward to giving this tool a try. I just installed the newest firmware, and I'm prepping my USB stick as I type. I'll try to give some feedback of how it's going.

just uploading some stuff I found on a SD Card that I used years ago on THEC64 Mini that you might find useful, call it a late Christmas present, it on my One Drive under Other Games C64, in the Other Files folder when the NAND Backups are kept, its all in a 7zip file if you want it all or you can download it at a file at a time.
There is a menu I made for the SD2IEC on there too, where you can press A,B,C and so on and it would load different programs from the SD Card like C64 File Browser, FIBR, SID Player and C64 GEOS, its called the C64 Ultimate Menuv2, I named it after the C64 Ultimate2 Cartridge.

The instructions for this project on this page is terrible. From the 1st page through to the embedded videos. Surely we can do better than that. The instructions are so convoluted it`s laughable. So many instructions, links and redirects etc..

I Was a bit hasty in my write up. After reading the instructions again I have it running It is a messy read I`ll stand by that.. but now I have it running it`s great! Well done to all. I have ended up with The VIC 20 in the bottom right corner though.. not sure how to change it back to The C64

I am in the middle of rewriting it but not a brilliant speller and sometime explain things with to many words.. some of it was kept from when the first version of PCU was released so should of deleted it. What I need really is a walkthrough of how to do this and that, but not really any good at making them. I have removed the manual because it would be better if it was all on the first post and the manual was a bit Fu@ked.. , I be adding bits when I can, the download link now goes straight to the One Drive folder. Thanks for all the Feedback, I do listen.. Enjoy PCUAE.

No worries... thanks for a cordial reply. I wanted to delete/edit my initial but I couldn`t. So I flipped to the Vic20 screen.. and back to the C64 list.. but I still have TheVIC20 in the bottom right hand corner.. is that right?

It sound like your on carousel v1.4.2, it has 3 versions of the carousel, you can switch between them with CTRL-F1(Carousel v1.0.5, c64mini), F3(Carousel v1.3.2, c64mini/maxi) and F5(Carousel v1.4.2, thevic20). press CTRL-F3 and you should be back to where you were in the beginning.

I have been testing the latest version (1.20beta3) on my THEC64Maxi for over a week and have not found any problems to report. At the moment I'm working on translating the Vic-20 game descriptions in the database into Italian. I have already translated those for C64 but in that case I use a personal database, in which I have entered my favorite games and many new games (free and paid, all games without cheat) released in recent years.

To Download PCUAEv1.20b and PCUME
They are hosted on One Drive - PCUAE and PCU Mini Edition(PCU-FUGS renamed)One Drive Download Folder - HERE Uploaded.(22 DEC 2020)Hi,
The Onedrive link does not work for me. The folders do not appear.
However the other link for the "other files" does work. Is there another location for the Project Carousel USB installation file? I'd love to try it out.
Thanks!
