To Download PCUAEv1.20b and PCUME
They are hosted on One Drive - PCUAE and PCU Mini Edition(PCU-FUGS renamed)One Drive Download Folder - HERE Uploaded.(22 DEC 2020)Hi,
The Onedrive link does not work for me. The folders do not appear.
However the other link for the "other files" does work. Is there another location for the Project Carousel USB installation file? I'd love to try it out.
Thanks! This is the correct link below. PCUAE One Drive Link

I began testing PCUv1.20beta3 on my THEC64 Maxi. I've only played with PCU for a little while now, but I noticed that sometimes a game title would crash to the C64 Basic blue screen, the very first time I invoked it from the carousel; subsequent invocations of the same game title then bring up a trainer options selector screen. What exactly is happening when a game title is invoked from the carousel for the very first time?
I discovered that the following game titles consistently failed to work for me:
* Tusker (hangs on an animated loading screen after pressing the space bar) * V: The Computer Game (crashes to the C64 Basic blue screen) * Warp! (crashes to the C64 Basic blue screen) * Zaxxon (crashes to the C64 Basic blue screen)

its not anything special, just me playing a round with PCUAEv1.20b4.. so I could show things added to it that work, like when using VICE CTRL-X you have to press and hold the number key down to get it to load a emulator but it works.. , you have 15 seconds to do it.. and JiffyDos v6 now is added and working CTRL-Q and me using Gadget Mode CTRL-C. It should be release in the next coupe of days, just checking for errors now.

oh PCUv1.20b4 will not load the RGL logo anymore, it was slowing the time PCUAE took to load up so I removed it so now it loads up 6 second faster, I will try and make it a bit faster before I release it, takes about 15 to 20 seconds to load so hopefully get it down to maybe under 10 seconds.

Thanks for mentioning PCU in this video... whoever you are... You can find Project Carousel USB by typing it into Google search engine, its the first link, just saying if you don't want to give out a link to it.

Some minor comments (can't make them at YouTube as comments for the video are turned off: - The Maxi (and Mini as well) have 256MB RAM, not 512MB. At least mine have. - PCUAE is not 'temporarily flashed' but just mounted over the internal directories - He could have added a link to PCUAE or to this forum

Next version will be out in the next hour... PCUAE_v1.20b4.exe compressing it now... PCUAE loads up now in about 10 seconds now and has VICE(CTRL-X) press and hold down a key to load one of the emulators, you should only need to hold it down for 2 to 4 seconds, you can use the joystick buttons too but you will have to hold the button down for 15 seconds, VICE is in folder SDLVICE in Options folder. You can enabled JIFFYDOSv6(CTRL-Q) now but will need to enable _AD Accurate Disk for it to work.

I tried several of the Vice Emulators and they seem to work well. PET has a noise bug that you can cure with sound settings adjust. Pet screen display has an echo off to the right hand side. C64 DTV is a bit flaky and may not be running correctly. In order to quit I had to use different joystick button 2 and the keyboard cursor keys. CBM 500 and 600/700 do not load and revert to Favourites. There are 2 minor typos on the menu: Disappear and Waiting when you next get to it. N.B. CTRL X is a bit hit and miss sometimes as X launches the current game or C64 Basic if on Favourite icon. Many thanks. Ian

There are no guarantees but as I understand it, it only intercepts a fake firmware update and diverts control to scripts on USB to mount new carousels and scripts.
If you don't like it you unplug the USB and are back to stock product.
It does not modify the NAND of your TheC64 or The Vic20 or The C64Mini.
There is a function built in where you can access the Nand using the X windows mod and that is a little bit risky but powerful.
I have used it and deleted files that were messed up by another piece of software called game manager so I am pleased it was available.
Worst case you use the X Windows mod and delete your Nand then you could get help to flash it back.

can guarantee that pcu is safe ? Yes it is safe.. all it does is run different scripts in the background for it to do different things, I use PCUAEv1.20b4 on my THEVIC20.

Ok Nick, I downloaded and am testing the latest version of PCUAE so far without encountering any anomalies. I have a request about "PCU Game Manager", when I export the new games inserted through the program interface, the generated ".tsg" file contains only the description in the "D: en:" field and as the interface of my TheC64Maxi is set in Italian, the description of the games obviously remains empty. Is it possible to add an option to select which field of the ".tsg" file to fill in between "en, fr, de, es, it"? At the moment I have to copy & paste the "en" field into the "it" field to view the description in Italian, but it would be convenient to have an option on PCU Game Manager to set the right field.......thanks!

Ok, many thanks Nick. Regarding the latest version of PCUAE, continuing the tests I too report the same problems reported by "vic2020ian" on the previous page, regarding the emulators in VICE. Also for me the CBM 500/750 are not loaded, returning to the carousel and the PET emulation presents some display and stability problems. It may just be a question of the right parameters in the VICE options.

Hi,
I'm trying to get my firmware back as close as possible to a factory state before making a backup copy.
I've run PCU in the past without realising that it makes a small permanent change to the firmware to enable autoboot to work. If possible, I would like to undo this change before making my backup.
I've done some digging around, and I've found the following file on nandb:
/etc/init.d/S95pcuboot
Am I right in assuming that this is the only file that PCU copies to the firmware to enable autoboot to work, and that if I delete it, then my firmware will be back to a factory state?
Thanks

Wow, that was incredibly fast! I'm looking forward to updating my The VIC-20 to this version.
Any plans for adding this Vice hack to the Mini as well? I just tried the separate Vice hack from the other thread and I really loved finally seeing the VIC-20 on the Mini. The other machines, like the Plus/4, are a really nice bonus.

Thanks With PCUAEv1.20 you can enable/disable Autoboot by pressing CTRL-7 and when it disables it, it removes the file from the firmware.

I just created an account primarily to thank you for this. Fantastic work! This really changes the game on the usability of The C64. I am blown away at the amount of titles here...and it is so nice to see a vast selection of VIC-20 titles. And, above all, great to see that this works without touching the stock firmware.
Everyone involved has really outdone themselves and I wanted to express my appreciation. Thank you!

One anomaly I have found thus far is that "Radar Rat Race" (which is a staple of the Vic-20) runs twice as fast as it is supposed to. It's one of those Vic-20 games that I always test first Odd. I guess it can be called "Championship Radar Rat Race" for now And, some games (like Gremlins for the C64) do not work on the first run. You run the game and you get a basic prompt. Run it again...and it loads.
I understand it is beta and these issues have probably been covered somewhere in the past 58+ pages.
Regardless, this truly is fantastic. A lot of work went into this and it shows.

What Model and do you have and what's it running at 50 or 60hz, I think Radar Rat Race is a NTSC game..? download PCU Manager and you can change its setting then export it back to PCUAE.
