After TheVIC20 was released today, I would like to ask if you can extract the VIC20 carousel-games from TheVIC20 firmware (version 1.4.1) to add them to the VIC20 games list. I would like to make a YouTube video of the VIC20 game "Bewitched". This game is my favorite along with Radar Rat Race on the VIC20. Unfortunately there is only one apparently cracked version available on the Internet, which simply ends the game after approx. 10 minutes and returns to the basic screen. It doesn't matter how many lives you lose in the 10 minutes. However, I want to make a video of the original version which has 5 lives but no time limit. I actually downloaded all versions via Google including a non-working .t64 file and the only one that works in VICE on Windows (current version), on the TheC64 and BMC64 system (also VICE) is the 10 minute version (.prg-file). I don't want to create the video with my TheC64 Maxi, because my BMC64 system has significantly fewer lags due to the direct input of the joystick signals to the RasPi without USB latency and the audio quality is also better. It has already been confirmed in the Facebook group that the original version with the 5 lives is in TheVIC20 carousel. If you should extract "Bewitched" with the X-Windows Mod, I would be very grateful if you could send me the prg / crt file. All games in the new PCU are only available in ".vsf.gz"-format. However, these cannot be read by the BMC64 in VICE. In the old PCU you could rename ".d64.vsf.gz"-files to ".d64" and some of them worked in BMC64 then. ".vsf.gz"-files only works in the PCU on the TheC64. In case anyone cares. This is my first video with the HDMI Capture Card and BMC64: Next up is the New Waves version of "The Great Giana Sisters 2" with all 65 stages on my channel. I practice this game almost every day so that I am able to play the game through without cheats and then publish it.

Is obsolete. With Assembly64 I was finally able to download the original version of "Bewitched" with the 5 lives. It's just a .tap file but after being written for the unexpanded VIC20 it loads quickly despite the tape version. If necessary, I could save the .tap file to a .d64 floppy disk in VICE on Windows to make the game load even faster.
Assembly64 is awesome.

I would if I had one, but not plaining of buying one, if anyone else can back up there firmware, would be great then I could put THEVIC 20 Carousel and load it up when the VIC20 screen comes up and add the games from it to the screen,I have done it with v1.3.2 and v1.0.5 already.
If you don't know how to back up your firmware, I can walk you thought it.

I thought I ask this.. For THEC64 Mini users only... Would you like me to add the CTRL and 1,2,3,4,5 Carousel Gamelist Selector so you can use the buttons too on THEC64 Joystick..?(don't ask about using another controller cause I can not, I don't know its Dev buttons, they use different names for there buttons, I would have to have that controller to add it) I need at lest 15 plus users that want this for me to make the code for it, no point if only 2-5 users want it, the Menu button will act like CTRL and then the rest will be 1,2,3,4,5, will be one of the other 7 buttons on the joystick. I am only asking this for THEC64 Mini users who don't use a keyboard, I used the keyboard cause most users use them and they have the same names for the keys and I can add more options, THEC64 joystick only has 8 buttons so will only fit the Carousel Gamelist Selector on it, so it will not have the other options like CTRL+ F1, F3, F5 or F7 or any of the other options so you will need a keyboard to use them. OR... Would you like me to update PCU-FUGS instead and add the updated games from 1.19 and call it PCU-for-THEC64Mini, I could have a look at it and see what I could use from PCU 1.19, would that be better for C64 Mini users..? Remember 15 or more users for me to do this.. if no one is interested there is no point me doing it. I am keeping PCU-FUGS available for download. Why.. It was the first time I ever made something in a script and had to work out how to get the Carousel to change folders by using fake Updates.. and where it all started..

Hi Spannernick,
I have both theC64mini and theC64maxi. with the mini I like playing without a keyboard attached, so I prefer the first option with menu button and other buttons to select gamefolders!
Thank You so much for Your wonderful work!!

Right I have done it so you have 2 favgames folders(favgames1 and favgames2) in the 0_fav folder, favgames1 has the games that I added and are organized differently(this loads up by default) and favgames2 that has THEC64 Maxi Game Tool in so you can add games to it using the game tool, you can select one by going to Carousel_Games/Options/CGS_Scripts/Carousel Gamelist Selector.sh and changing GAMESDIR="0_fav/favgames1" to GAMESDIR="0_fav/favgames2" so it load up the other folder with TCMGT in it with the games you have added... Just tested it and it works fine.. You have to add more than 6+ games in favgames2 folder for the Carousel to work or it will crash and will not boot up but I will leave that up to you, what you put in that folder, all I added was the Fav Cover and FIBR. You will see it in the next version. I guess I could do this to the VIC20 folder too so you could load up C64 games in its place if you want me too..? Awesome! And, yes, the VIC20 option sounds good as well Would you happen to have that game list handy? Appreciate all the hard work on this! Can't wait to try it out in real life next month...

Update..
Release date...
New Name..
PCUv.1.18 Anniversary EditionPCUv1.18 will be release on October 9th 2020, exactly 2 years from when THEC64 Mini was released in the United State, on its second Anniversary.. .. 6 days to go and it looking more likely now.. everything is sliping into place and everything is working well and as it should, so far .. so good. I think this release fits it perfectly cause it includes the first version of the Carousel, oh almost forgot, Ye Olde Carousel v1.0.5(thanks jj0 for the name... ) can hold 300 games per Carousel Gamelist Screen too.. I upped it in its source code so it could hold more games.. I was going to do just 226 but I thought what the hell, why not... another 74 slots would not hurt.
Got FIBR working, you don't need to run CBM File Browser first.. I have made a usb_sd2iec folder inside FIBR folder that is linked to the extragames folder on the root of the usb stick(when Ye Olde Carousel v1.0.5 loads FIBR, your in the FIBR folder already), you can now load FIBR and go into the usb_sd2iec folder to get to the SID player now or any .prg file or load a game from a directory if you want to from there, alot easier.. When you load Ye Olde Carousel v1.0.5.. you have to make sure your in Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites cause it will not mount the usb_sd2iec folder if your not. Its looking real nice, the Carousel.. Thats Ye Olde Carousel v1.0.5(2018), it never had a USB File Loader at first, so it can't load from USB. You can still load CBM File Browser if you like, it will still be included, it in the FIBR folder.(fb64.prg in picture)and in extragames folder too, thats linked to the usb_sd2iec folder.. I bet you thought you never see FIBR again, remember when it was all we could use to load games on the THEC64 Mini in 2018... that was Ye Ole Carousel v1.0.5, we have now v1.3.2. Carousel Gamelist Screen Favorites is the only screen that will have its games set up differently, each game will have its own folder with the folders name named after its tsg file, I have had them like this for a while now and they work fine, and load OK, you will not be able to use TheC64 Maxi Game Tool with it, this is one of the reasons why FIBR works.. Anyway.. enjoy your day... Hi Span, I have one question: since the fav folder is different from the others and I can't use the game tool, how do I put here the games? I have tried just to copy/paste a game from another folder into a folder with its name here, and pasting the .tsg file in the /games folder and it appears in the carousel, but if i run it all it does is showing me the c64 prompt screen. What else do I need to do? Thank you!

I’ve extracted the vic 20 games from the carousel all 28 of them. I’ve then added them to your vic 20 folder on the anniversary edition with the games you put in. When I get onto my pc I will send them to you.

Thanks, while you are in the firmware could you grab the64 file(the Carousel, they might of called it vic20, but don't see RGL changing its name) its in the first bin folder and the stuff thats in "/usr/share/the64/"(/usr/share/vic20) too could you, it parts for the Carousel(thats where the logo is that you see on the Carousel at the bottom right, the Carousel is made up like a webpage.)..
If not thats ok..?
What I want to do is load up the vic20 carousel when you go to the Vic 20 Screen.

Hi, new member here!. I got Maxi last weekend and I'm very glad I did!. I'm having a lot of fun. First of all, I'd like to thank span for creating such a wonderful mod, thank you so much!!. The Maxi is way better now than it already was before having the PCU!. I'm having some trouble with a couple of gamepads I'm trying to use. One is a generic controller, brand "Domina", product code 4842. The problem I have is that the fire buttons does not work with some games but they work in others and they also work in the Carousel. When I open gamepad tool in linux, it shows as a "Retrolink SNES Controller". I've tried editing the gamecontrollerdb.txt located in /Carousel_Games/Options/Controllers and adding the mapping string to the file. I've also created a custom entry but I get the same behaviour. Here is the string I created with the tool: 03000000790000001100000010010000,USB Gamepad TEST,a:b2,b:b1,x:b3,y:b0,back:b8,start:b9,leftshoulder:b4,rightshoulder:b5,dpup:-a1,dpdown:+a1,dpleft:-a0,dpright:+a0,lefttrigger:b6,righttrigger:b7,platform:Linux, The other controller I have is a Trust GXT 540. This one does not work at all. Only a shoulder button acts as a fire button. It's recognized by gamepad tool as "SHANWAN Trust Gamepad". I've also created a profile, but no luck. This is the custom string I created: 030000005f140000c501000010010000,SHANWAN Trust Gamepad TEST,a:b2,b:b1,x:b3,y:b0,back:b8,guide:b12,start:b9,leftstick:b10,rightstick:b11,leftshoulder:b4,rightshoulder:b5,dpup:h0.1,dpdown:h0.4,dpleft:h0.8,dpright:h0.2,leftx:a0,lefty:a1,rightx:a2,righty:a3,lefttrigger:b6,righttrigger:b7,platform:Linux, Any clue of what may be causing the controllers failing to work?. The original joystick works just fine...
I've also tried swapping the Joystick with the CTRL key combo...
Thank you.

After further investigation, I managed to understand part of the problem. I know why the fire button does not work on the generic controller. It has to do with the game settings in the .tsg config file. One game that works is Arkanoid. The joystick config for it is:
J:1*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,JF,JF,JF,J,1,2,JF,,
A game that does not work is Starforce. The joystick config is:
J:1:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,, J:2*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,SP,EN,,F1,F3,F5,,,
If I change the J:2 config to: J:2*:JU,JD,JL,JR,JF,JF,JF,JF,JF,J,1,2,JF,,
Now the fire button in Starforce works!!. So I guess that 7th and 8th position are potential problems here. Those correspond to TL and TR. I'm assuming that my fire buttons are assigned to those TL and TR. Is there a way to reconfigure my buttons so that they are assigned the way they are supposed to?.
Thanks!.

Hey Span,
I don't know if someone spotted a minor mistake or not concerning one of the vsf.gz files. It looks like there are 2 Hall Of Fame files included, from which one seems to be corrupted. In this case THEC64HALLOFFAME.vsf.gz shows up as 0 bytes on my PC, which also doesn't work in VICE.
The second HOF file is named STHEC64GAMES.vsf.gz, which works in VICE. But the Carousel doesn't seem to point to that file, since it seems to be configured to start the corrupted "faulty" version.

I had the same problem on a lot of games, I`m using an iNNEXT contoller and some games were mapped okay but a lot weren`t, i tried dropping a CJM file in the root of all the games folders but that didn`t work, so all the games i have found not working I`ve had to go into the -ms file of the game and manually edit it, i tried removing the Controller folder to see if that was causing a problem with the CJM file, but it refused to boot past the Retro Games tittle screen, so i dropped the folder back in and it boots as normal, I`ve tried dropping the CJM file everywhere and it doesn`t read it, so the only way i have found is to manually edit the -ms game file :-(

I wanted to find a different way of switching from 60hz to 50hz(Resetting THEC64 and taking out the HDMI Cable is a pain) and cause its saved in the settings.dat file, I can have one that called 50hz_settings.dat and another one called 60hz_settings.dat and swap them in a script and the Carousel changes from 60hz to 50hz... Cool so I can do it the same way I did Autoboot.. CTRL and key for 50hz then reload Carousel and it will be in 50hz and CTRL and a key for 60hz then reload Carousel and it will be in 60hz... Would this be any good to anyone, well better then unplugging the HDMI cable out every time.. Just make the scripts for it and added it to the Carousel Gamelist Selector so CTRL-F for 50hz and CTRL-S for 60hz... fingers crossed it does what I want it to do.. only will work with the Carousel v1.3.2.

Hi there, sorry, can't find a solution through the posts. I tried to use PCU 1.19 on my c64 mini EU but after clicking on Apply on the Settings screen, no PCU logo for me, only again on the setting screen. Have i missed something? I formatted my usb drive (8 gb) using windows 10 prompt, but still no solution. Thanks

Thanks You can try the PCU-USB-FIX.img, use win32 Disk imager to copy it to your USB Stick and then see if it works, it has PCU v1.19 in the image file already, its a copy of my USB Stick that works. Oh and the 60hz to 50hz scripted works too, you can now switch between them with CTRL-S and CTRL-F, so it will be added to the next version.

Now what does that actually change? * The HDMI output switches between 50 and 60 Hz * The emulation internally switches between 50 and 60 Hz with a) It "thinks" it is 50 (PAL) but actually outputs at 60 (too fast) which needs a pitch shift for the SID b) It runs at 50 and runs with "stutter" due to some frames needing to be doubled? Thanks for answering my curiosity. (On BMC64 I can do real 50/60 but at least the Mini was never able to do that, so they gave us pitch shift).
