Please share with the community the updates you would like to feature on theC64 Mini or theC64 Maxi. I have only 3, which are as follows: - Options for Full top/bottom borders. So that on some programs that use sprites inside the top and bottom borders can be 100% visible. Take Galencia for example. On a C64C the sprites on the top + bottom borders can been seen in full. On theC64 Mini, only half/less than half the sprites are displayed. I also have the same problem when playing games created with The Shoot Em Up Construction Kit. No score panel can be seen. - Options for SID type. There are programs which has music designed for new SID as well as OLD. - As well as being able to load .D64 images, maybe add support for loading .TAP and .CRT images. TAP for nostalgic tape loading, CRT for RGCD games, SuperFluid, etc. Spannernick - PLEASE add your Wishlist and you never know,Retro Games might be watching, I hope..

* A proper interface for loading loose PRG and image files. * Support for other file formats, tape and cartridge files would be great. * An option to boot straight to BASIC, by passing the carousel. * Support for a positional keyboard map, so we can use a Keyrah and a real C64 keyboard. * Better joystick support: support any HID joystick and let us remap buttons * Use the keyboard to navigate the carousel and open the menu while in a game.

Option to load your own choice of SID files in for playback on the carousel. Optional dive noise emulation in BASIC when loading/saving to disk images. As with everyone, interface to switch between disk images so multi-disk games can be played.

I don't need the included games. A firmware without carousel, just let it start in basic like a normal c64 - that's all I want. And if there must be a carousel, i wish the ability to exchange the games of it.

Full access to the VICE emulator settings. Including the file browser therein and what not. Yeah, this is also what I'd like to see. I think the problem may be that the Mini uses an old build of VICE. The newer builds have an integrated menu system that the older version may lack...

Oh, that is what I was sort of hoping for. The menuing system that you seen Combian64 for example. It's simple, completely text based. But I've been using that for many years before, so ... just exactly how old is their VICE fork, I wonder.

But I've been using that for many years before, so ... just exactly how old is their VICE fork, I wonder. Yeah, that menu is actually part of the SDL version of VICE. You can actually grab that version for Windows at any time, as well. I use that on my emulator machine, while I stick with WinVICE on my main PC. (WinVICE is really quicker to navigate, but SDLVICE just looks better. I really wish WinVICE would let me set up custom keyboard commands... I may yet download the source and add more shortcuts.) sourceforge.net/projects/vice-emu/files/releases/binaries/windows/I also like that you can remap the joystick buttons, including even being able to run both virtual joysticks from a single game pad. This makes it easier to use games like Spy Hunter, which uses the second joystick's fire button. I could even envision using all 6 buttons on an SNES game pad for a single player game by mapping the d-pad and left bumper to stick 1 and the diamond and right bumper to stick 2.

This may sound crazy, but how about for a future FW as well as running programs from the carousel - add a sub menu to select to load from disk, load from tape. It would be something nostalgic there

Add Swap disk or Change Disk to the Save/Load,Virtual Keyboard options when you press the (4th button) Menu button to change disk to be able to play Multi Disk games properly,I think this should of been done when the file Loader was released on the 9th October but maybe they couldn't because they have not worked it out how to do it yet.I hope this get sorted in the next couple of months because it stops you playing certain games.

It's important that whatever diskette change system they make that it also works with cartridges, because cartridges also need to add a diskette and change it to other diskettes while running. E.g. Comal 80 needs to add a diskette. (There is a workaround now with firmware 1.1.4 using cartridge and diskettes with the same name in different directories and using save and restore saved games, but I think that's difficult to use.)

My wishlist for the next firmware after 1.3.2: - Support all joysticks and gamepads that work with HID in Windows and Linux.
A default.cjm-file that would be used as a base for filename codes or file specific CJM-files. (Now supported since firmware 1.2.0.)- Support USB serial ports that would be accessible as e.g. modems connected to the VICE-emulated user port. This would enable connecting to e.g. hardware and Internet.
- Support phones and Microbit that emulate USB memory sticks when connected to computers. This should make it possible to update time and e.g. weather data by reading a file in a diskette that is updated by the phone. Several partitions should be handled.
- Change or add diskette mechanism that also works for cartridges. (Supported on THEC64 since firmware 1.3.2, but not on MINI.)
- Support for paddles and C64 mouse (they could use analog USB-joystick, or mouse).
- THEC64 MINI should be able to format USB flash drives, since it's difficult to do on Windows 10 w/o third party software.
- Support for Swedish/Finnish keyboard, and also Danish and Norwegian, i.e. Nordic keyboard (all C64 keys are on the same place on the Nordic keyboards).
Caps Lock should work the same way as SHIFT LOCK on the real C64. (Now supported since firmware 1.3.2.)
- Num Lock on a standalone numeric keyboard should work as on a full keyboard, i.e. be off at when first connected, or maybe remember state.
- A standalone numeric keyboard should have joystick buttons A, B, C, as 0 = A, + = B and - = C.
- VIC20 emulator should be built in, since it has the same keyboard as the C64. It should be possible to configure VIC20 memory banks in the CJM-file. (Supported on THEC64 since firmware 1.3.2, but not on MINI.)

* Fix for the HDMI CEC error (I need to disconnect the C64 Mini physically from Power or HDMI for my TV Soundbar to work) * Exposure of Vice SDL Menu via any kind of secret key combination * Support for Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller USB Dongle Thingie with support of more buttons * Support for GEOS or other mouse and/or paddles via mouse (Arkanoid!)

Some great work has been added so far by the devs. Although the various file name renaming switches work great (.cjm too!), it is still a tedious process to test unknown game, notice it does not work, take USB stick out of mini, back to pc, rename file (or create cjm), test it back on mini, hope it works and doesn't need additional switch (accurate emulation of floppy drive), try new game and repeat this entire process
Like I said, tedious however one addition could go some way to speeding things up and that would be the ability to rename the filename right from the mini itself, right from the USB menu so no need to remove USB key and do the renaming from the pc. Instead from the USB key menu, have one of the unused joystick buttons call the USB keyboard and allow renaming of the file.
The best we do to alleviate the need to go back to the pc, the better thec64 mini experience is

This would work like this: Press Menu button and keep it pressed, press another button WHILE Menu is pressed and that could do stuff like Joystick Port Switch (or Macros). When the Menu button gets RELEASED and no button was pressed then open the menu. (This is the functionality on my Ipac board inside an Arcade cabinet by having the Coin-Insert-Player-2 button double up as a Shift Key. For normal use, it is irrelevant whether I process that the button was PRESSED or that it was RELEASED...)

here is my wishlist for the next firmware update after playing around with thec64 firmware 1.3.1:
most wanted:
swap joystick on the fly without filename flags or cjm config files, both methods are extremly cumbersome
in classic mode:
map the joystick keys inside menu also to crsr-up/down and crsr-left/right
direct reset with the keyboard (maybe the64key+del) also please add soft-reset (memory stays untouched) and hard-reset (clears memory)
although i'm on firmware 1.3.1 some games still disable the keyboard menu-shortcut (shift+arrow left)
load custom kernal or custom keyboard bindings (bind dos commands to function keys) and make persistent, right now i have to use a workaround: load final cartridge crt image, insert disk image
in carousel mode:
custom carousel to add own crt/vsf images with tsg config
make new sort feature persistent (like the bgm on/off setting)
display:
fix the american display mode 4:3 width, right now it looks kind of wrong, circles are not round (circles are round when setting display to european 4:3)

A soft reset feature would be a useful feature. I would also like the firmware to allow connecting a wifi dongle to the machine so that I can go onto BBS systems and telnet. similar to this :

... Yes, a great dream with potential --- I wonder how this could be best achieved by mod.
Either by:
- tcpser module incorporated into the vice emulator firmware and internally ported to some kind of future tcpip output port.
- serial output accessible to the c64 software would be a good start. Modem BBS would require some kind of additional device with firmware to support an equivalent ATDT<url address> type command and handling.
- drivers to support a USB ethernet or wifi dongle at the embedded linux level would also be required.
I think that the C64 (Maxi) has plenty of potential and room inside for all sorts of add-ons, mods potentially, plus there are at least two USB ports on the circuit board that are not yet utilised. Potential?
One of the limitations with The C64 at the moment is that it has no way of communicating from within the C64 environment to the outside world by way of serial port or similar. It means that little or nothing can be interfaced at the moment (unlike a genuine C-64).

... and not so much a firmware update, but it would be nice if later production models correct the centred zero key, so that production units look more like pre-prod units and actual 64's. A small thing but I guess it depends how many keys have been pre-ordered/produced at once. Perhaps the replacement zero could be made available to existing owners to purchase as a replacement part for a small price???

Mega Cart doesn't work on THEC64 Maxi,VIC 20 Mode, they need a Flag maybe like "_MC" to be added by RG. Vic-20 MegaCart Cartridge The MegaCart is a cartridge for the Vic-20 computer, containing approximately 200 games, tapes and other files. It also has a built-in RAM expansion and reset switch. Programs are selected with a menu at start-up and the cartridge image boots immediately. The packaging is complete and authentic-looking, right down to the last detail. Click for bigger imageVideo...

Hi. New user FrankC64 here. Just got my Maxi on thursday. Another suggestion for a firmware update is support for all four disk drives. The feature is already there in VICE, so I suppose it must be very easy to add three more slots in the media selection section. This feature would really ease the workflow when you work with something like the Pascal 64 compiler, which requires you to switch disks several times, everytime you want to compile. /Frank Carvalho

Hello! New user here too.
I’m really enjoying TheC64, but a nice feature to add in a firmware update would be a cartridge freeze option like you have in vice. I mean by this if you have enabled a virtual cartridge like action replay or final cartridge iii, to simulate a button press on it, that would freeze the system.
I’d like to do some programming on TheC64, and would use this option for memory monitoring.
An option to monitor from the emulator itself would also be cool.
Anyways those are my two cents regarding wishes for new features.
Cheers!
