Hi guys, This is definitely my final week at RGL. I'm happy that we've got v1.5.1 firmware over the line before I left. The only thing to do for me is to write some revisions to THEC64 manual to reflect the new features from 1.4.2 and 1.5.1. I'll keep an eye on this thread and pass any good suggestions back to the guys. But it's been a good six months and I'm happily now moving back to being a developer. Regards, Shaun. Hi Shaun, Thanks for your contributions to this forum - I hope you won't disappear fully :-) What kind of stuff are you developing? I will be maintaining some legacy PHP applications and websites as well as developing new ones. And yes, I'll stick around. I've been a Commodore fan since the age of 8 or 9, and an 8-bit fan more generally since the 2000s - I particularly found the "flame wars" very interesting and entertaining. Regards, Shaun.

Idea... A option of turn on or off _AD Truedrive, True Drive Emulation, Accurate Disk inside Media Access, you could put AD icon next to the tape rewind, play, ff icons and then just highlight it with the joystick and press fire on it to enable it, that way you would not have to add it to a CJM or add _AD to every d64 file that needs it.

Adding the tape counter(000) to the top right of the screen where the disk icon is located, when a TAP file is loading in Classic Mode and maybe add a flag to turn it on and off like _TC(Tape Counter)for turning it on so its not on by default and adding the word "counter" to a cjm file to turning it on too..?

Ditto that— even if it’s just a way to spit out straight text. Also, a way to backup either the device save states to a USB stick, or backup one USB stick’s files to another USB stick.

No, I mean backing up from the internal save states (4 of them) that are created without a USB stick in. If you have a USB stick in, the internal flash memory save slots disappear and are replaced by new save slots put on the USB stick. So you can’t access the original slots to back them up. Nor can you backup from one USB stick to another, at least as far as I can tell. Unless there’s some way that’s not in any of the documentation that I can find. I would be happy to be corrected!
EDIT: Well, how about that. A little experimenting, and I find out I’M WRONG!!!! I didn’t realize that the USB sticks worked as hot swappable. I was able to load slots from the internal flash, then insert a USB stick and save the loaded data to the USB stick. I could also load from one USB stick, pull it, swap in a new USB stick, and save to the new USB stick... so that’s a backup. I haven’t experimented with using the Media access to see if I can go back and forth between two USB sticks inserted at the same time, but now I suspect I can. (The manual isn’t clear on any of this!) Still a bit laborious, but maybe there’s a quicker way.

Remove USB File Loader and make the USB Icon on the bottom bar switch to Classic Mode, there is no point having 2 File Browsers, now THEC64 Mini has Classic Mode.
or what would be easier, instead of removing the USB Fie Loader code, just change the USB Icon to switch to Classic Mode, once you have you will not be able to use USB Fie Loader again anyway.

1. WiFi dongle support for BBS use! 2. SuperCPU emulation (would allow a whole new level of game development) 3. Wedge case, yes the original style was the right one to do first, yes it would be nearly half the price of the unit, yes I would buy one or more 3. USB printer support 4. 1702 styled monitor bezel for modern monitors. Pick a few sizes like 19" 22" and have it so it can clip over the screen, with all the black space you would have a ton of wiggle room for different models, a physical version of this: dougan78.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/C64-Monitor-Bezel-1024x978.pngWhen Arcade1up hit I figured they would have one great christmas season with the left overs slowly selling off the discount rack, I was wrong. They kept it going with new stuff and I am impressed. If you made additional products like the above ones it could really broaden your product line. With the physical stuff like the monitor bezel and wedge case you could have OEM and TheC64 mounts to support original or new boards.

I would love to see support for more third-party USB controllers, such as the Hyperkin Trooper II and the Retro-bit 2.4ghz wireless Sega controller.

I've got a Hyperkin Trooper II, which is basically a USB Atari 2600 joystick clone featuring 4 extra buttons for navigation. Works great on my RetroPie setup. If you search the threads though there's a game controller tool to get the proper string config for a controller and then you edit the config text file with that. It would be nice though to have a bunch more controllers already entered into that file and it supplied with Project Carousel.

I just wish they would release the source code so we could add at least some of these missing features ourselves.
RGL's unwillingness to comply with the GPL leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Hello guys, for me this firmware works very well. I could ask for: - super cpu support - dragon's lair for reu 16mb version which just launched the .prg file asks you to read the dl00.reu file but you can't get it to work. See here:
Thanks again guys, you did a great job for me

If it doesn't already exist, I'd like to see the ability to hit a key and jump to that starting letter for games in the carousel so you don't have to scroll to it with the joystick. I never tried that so maybe you already can? Had to sell my maxi and am only using the mini until I'm back to work and buy another maxi, so I haven't plugged in a keyboard to try that.

Same for REU, there might not be enough memory at all, the machine has been stripped to the bare minimum to make regular C64 software work.

I would like a update for more games and applications for the C64 Maxi/Mini Also, maybe Retro Games Ltd. should license some C64 ROMS so they coud paste it on their website, so then we can easily get C64 Games and insert them into the The C64 Maxi and Mini. There should be internet access and I'll also like original carts, cassette and disk drives to work on the C64 Maxi aka New Model revision.

I would like to see a future firmware update which includes an option to have not just three columns for USB software filenames, but to have the user select either one, two, or three columns for USB software filenames. It would be nice to be able to see the FULL names of the software titles and also the publishers and the publication years. Currently there are too many filenames showing xxxxxxxx…xxxxx. In addition there is a lot of blank space on the left and right sides of the screen that could be used to display the list of filenames. Another thing that would improve the user interface, is once the user is at the bottom of a column, and pushes down on the joystick, that the user is taken to the TOP of the NEXT column (if there is a next column).
Currently we have something like this for USB software filenames lists:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Would like to see this type of thing for three columns:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Would like to see this type of thing for two columns:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Would like to see this type of thing for one column:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My vote would go for fixing the CJM mapping problems that there currently are. Mapping the TheC64 key for the joystick does not work for some reason, and there may be other keys that cannot be defined for it either. Also, at least with one game, if I have both mouse and joystick defined in the CJM file for the same port, the mouse works fine and most of the joystick directions and fire work but for some reason it refuses to go straight or diagonally up. I won't object to the other suggestions offered in this thread either. But generally speaking, they've done quite a good job with the firmware updates and adding new properties for the machine. :-) EDIT: Solved the mouse problem. See my posts at thec64community.online/thread/1062/thec64-mini-maxi-thevic-update to see the solution.

May I suggest an enhanced CRT filter. CRT monitors have many thiny dots not horizontal lines. The horizontal lines makes the experience great but I believe it can be improved. It will be great if the next update wil inculde an improved CRT filter. Thus will make the The C64 more popular and more collectors will make sure to purchase one. As you can see on the link hereunder the screenshot from an actual Commodore 1084S monitor has many thiny dots: www.superrune.com/offsite/2018/1084s_photo_05.jpgYou can find more information here: github.com/dirkwhoffmann/virtualc64/issues/270

Yes, that’d be great to have. Or at the very least a print to .bmp image option. VICE can do print to .bmp images, so it should be possible for theC64 too. I am wondering if Retro Games will add the capability for a second disk drive (device #9). I am using the TheC64 to learn 6502 machine coding and having a second drive would be useful (not absolutely necessary, I agree). I'd also vote for access to up to four disk devices for using things like the Pascal environments. (Though even two drives would be great). And ... how about a C128 mode? Vice already has an emulator for that. I'd also vote for access to up to four disk devices for using things like the Pascal environments. (Though even two drives would be great). And ... how about a C128 mode? Vice already has an emulator for that. I have put in a request for drive 9 support as I'm a big GEOS fan. That doesn't mean it's going to definitely happen, of course, but I have a direct line and will regularly feed back people's issues, concerns and comments. Regards, Shaun. How about adding JiffyDOS?. It should be fairly easy, as it's just a kernal/disc file swap. That and the REU support and I'm in C64 heaven!. I have requested this too as again I'm well used to using JiffyDOS. It would be good if JiffyDOS support could go hand-in-hand with support for two drives, like 8 is 1541 and 9 is 1571 or 1581. Regards, Shaun. So… Did support for more drives, device 9, and perhaps more, ever happen with a firmware yet?The last firmware update was what? Christmas 2021? Does anyone think we’ll get more firmware updates in the future?
