Yeah dont beat yourself up. I did for days. I would probably go back to an earlier version; see my previous posts until a newer release comes out. Just my two cents here

Hello guys,
I got the exact same trouble like TheStranger. The newest 1.7.6b1 just shows a black screen. Tried multiple usb sticks… I tried it for days now..my c64 Maxi is PAL, English Settings. Doesn’t matter if 50 or 60hz. With 1.7.5b9 I managed it sometimes to se the splash screen bevor it reboots to build in firmware. I feel you TheStranger. But I think we are just a bit away from a solution.

Info: if we say "reboot to firmware" we mean a hard reset (the power led goes of and on again) and the standard firmware loads (1.7.5b9), with 1.7.4b5 i have an pcuae mode but no carousel was load, with 1.7.6b1 only black screen.

yvesthps - I would format that USB stick and install 1.7.4b5 or even 1.7.4b2. These two worked for me without any issues. The older versions should be in your Project Carousel USB folder under PACUAE > pcuae-install.
