Do we have to host them off site and link to it to get it to show up? I'm using a browser on my phone not a computer.

You should see a button called Attachments if you add a New Thread on the right next to Add Poll button and you can add up to 3 pictures or files, you will not see it if your using the Quick Reply box if your replying to a thread, you have to press the Reply button to see it.

Once you added a picture then press the Insert button to insert it into your post.
like this..

If you have more then 3 pictures to add then use the next post but make sure you do it before some replies to your thread.

If I'm posting a new thread I don't see any such way to do it but I'll try. If you don't see a new thread from me with a pic of my tabletop arcade scratch build then you'll know I failed. Lol

Remember I'm using a phone so maybe you only see that stuff on a computer.
