So I was just on my C64 maxi, and wanted to get in a little time on BASIC. Before I updated the firmware to 1.5.2, BASIC was in the carousel, but now, it's not there. I have to switch to classic mode. My save file is still there that I made in BASIC, but no longer there in the carousel. Did I mess something up? Or did it change in the firmware update? Only thing I've really been doing is adding games to a USB drive and playing them.

I thought BASIC game slot in the carrousel was only on THEC64 Mini, its not on the carousel on THEVIC20, and I never saw it on my THEC64 Maxi PI cause they both have Classic Modes, before THEC64 Mini did.

The, THEC64 Mini and THEC64 Maxi carousel defaults are both the same I think. When I moved over to the Maxi, I distinctly remember both carousels being exactly the same. I updated the firmware when I had the Mini, and the BASIC program card was still on the carousel. But when I updated the firmware for the Maxi, new game cards were added to the carousel, but the BASIC card is now gone.

Looking at this video, you can see THEC64 Maxi does not come with the BASIC game slot, there would be no point to it, if you use the BASIC game slot you booting from the Carousel and can not swap disks. Thats why RGL made a new mode Classic Mode.

I noticed if you load BASIC from a Game Slot in THECarousel 1.3.2 it load Basic in the carousel so if you press Menu on the C64 joystick you get save/load and Virtual Keyboard. if you load BASIC from a Game Slot in THECarousel 1.5.2 it loads Classic Mode instead.

Oh that's odd. Well not really, because I guess they changed stuff around in 1.5.2 vs 1.3.2. I noticed that you can load disks, tapes and cartridges in Media Access. I experienced two problems so far with loading these files the old way. So in Media Access I go to my folders on the USB stick C64 Games\Monte Carlo Casino.tap. I'm able to attach the tape to the tape drive, then I type LOAD "*". Then once it loads it says PRESS PLAY ON TAPE. So I go back into Media Access and press the PLAY icon. Well I wait about a minute or so, just to get an error message. However, if I simply move the yellow box over top of Monte Carlo Casino.tap and press the rocket icon button on the joystick, it loads me right in.
I have been able to attach files that look like a floppy disk, and I have been able to load those disks by using LOAD "*", 8,1. Then it says Searching for *, then says LOADING and eventually READY. I'm then able to type RUN, and the program executes. There are files on my USB stick that don't look like a floppy disk, and they don't look like a cassette tape. So if I press FIRE on those files, I just get the low tone sound, and nothing attaches. However, if I press that rocket icon button, the program loads and runs, and if I go into Media Access, it shows the file is now attached as a cartridge.
I just thought this was very odd, because I wanted to load those files the old way, but I guess for some of them you can't?

What files don't look like a floppy disk (d64, d81) or cassette (tap, t64) do you want to load?

Floppies are D64, D81, D82, G64, Program files are P00, PRG, T64, Cassette files are TAP. some people think a T64 is a tap file when its not, T64 files have nothing to do with tapes. T64 is a format that originated with the C64S emulator, they are simple containers, like Lynx or Ark.
VICE pretends, with a lot of hacks, a T64 is a tape, but a T64 is actually just a header with a 'directory' with pointers to each file in the container.
It is usually best to avoid T64's, either convert them to D64 or extract each file as a .prg file.

I always load tape files with SHIFT and RUN STOP not load"*"...? I saw it on a youtube video. The guy was in classic mode loading up a tap file. He attached the file in Media Access, typed in LOAD "*" the file loaded, then he pressed the PLAY icon in Media Access, and the file loaded, and he was playing whatever the game was, I don't remember. I just now saw a video of SHIFT and RUN STOP on an actual C64, so I will give that a try. Thanks

There is no real need for stock C64 BASIC to be included on the carousel because it's available through classic mode.
However, it would actually be pretty useful if the other flavours of BASIC (and maybe other languages?) that were released for the C64 were added to the carousel.
