Hello,
I've bought my TheC64 Maxi a week ago. I've updated it to newest firmware version: 1.5.2. Everything went smooth, but rarely during startup in classic mode keyboard wasn't responding. Restarting system used to fix the problem. So I've ignored this. But now keyboard seems not to response at all event after restarting or unplugging it. Restarting it to factory setting also didn't work.
Probably my unit is broken - is there something that I can check before sending it back to vendor?

Can you control it with the joystick? Does that still work?

Yes. Joystick works fine.
BTW I've unscrew 3 screws and opened my maxi up to just to peek inside. Every cable from tiny "mother board" to keyboard seems to be attached properly.

Try plugging a USB Keyboard in for now.

Then we can test if firmware upgrade has broken the keyboard driver or if something else has broken

You can always try PCUAE with it to see if the keyboard works with it, it can load different versions of the carousel, it does have a Keyboard-Test.prg in the extragames folder to test the keyboard too.

I don't think it is related to firmware. Keyboard worked with default firmware, worked for a week with newest firmware and stopped. I'm from PAL region.

Yes, external keyboard and joystick works.
BTW I actually managed to reanimate my maxi keyboard. A least for a while. I once again opened it up and unscrew two little screws that are holding metal bar holding tape with traces that comes from keyboard, clean it and screw it again (this time harder that was before). Another potential problem inside is that some cables are bend in ~90 degrees .

Be careful when cleaning the membrane cause you can rub off the traces, the keyboard is like Amiga keyboard. if it worked for a while after cleaning it then there is a problem with it membrane and you should return it back to shop for a replacement, you should have time to but it will depend on where you bought it from otherwise you will have to send it to Retro Games LTD, it under a 1 Yr Warranty with RGL.
