Do you guys remember a fantastic war strategy game for the Amiga that was sort of like Risk or 8 Bit Guy's Planet X called Empire War Game Of The Century? It featured a board game layout of water and land like those games and you'd create factories to build tanks, boats, and planes, set up automatic plane flight patterns to patrol your parameter and discover new territory, and so on. The screen was black until you explored areas, and it had a random map generator so you never knew the layout with each new game. I'd play that game to sunrise in my youth it was so addictive. Did they ever make a version of it for the C64? If not, can you recommend any games on the 64 that are similar? I really should get a copy of it for the Amiga and play it on my retropie setup, but it would be great to play it or a similar game on the maxi too.

Cool thanks didn't know empire existed for the 64, and I'll check out the other one too.
I'd encourage anybody who wants to get absolutely hooked on a risk style war strategy game to check out Empire War Game Of The Century on your amiga or 64. Its fairly easy to learn without even reading instructions on the amiga. Hope the 64 is as well. On the amiga you used your mouse for most of it. Hoping the 64 version supports a mouse or at least a joystick as well to enter commands and draw out plane routes and such.
Which brings up a question. Does the maxi support a mouse for things like GEOS?

No the carousel does not support a mouse, they do not work because they are not enabled in the emulator, but you can use VICE Mode in PCUAE 1.5.0 and enable the mouse in VICE Settings to use with GEOS or any games that uses one.

PCUAE 1.5.0 just keeps getting better and better. I didn't realise it could do this. Buy Nick a coffee and get access to supporters early release.

I'd gladly support the cause but at present I had an injury in February and am in therapy to regain use of my injured hand. Wasn't working when it happened in February so no disability or money coming in. Luckily I have family or I'd be homeless right now. No worries though. Hand is getting much better and should be able to work in another month or two. 8 hours of surgery and my heart stopped, probably due to blood loss. If you have a glass side door window I'd highly recommend you put a guard screen over the glass. A simple trip at the top of the stairs and next thing I know hand went right through the glass and was shooting blood three feet in the air. It could have been much worse. Everything moves now just have to strengthen it and keep up the exercises so the repaired tendons don't seize up in the still forming scars. I'm lucky...

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Take care of yourself. All the best for a speedy recovery.

The game is still available and maintained for modern computers, with versions for current Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems. I think the developer is mostly a one-man operation now. It's interesting and fun that a game first developed in the 1970s for a mainframe computer is still going. That's cool. The digitized explosions on the amiga (they sounded digitized anyway) were so satisfying. Just for kicks too sometimes I'd set it so the computer was both opponents and go to bed. Next morning the wars were often still raging. I'm thinking 8 bit guy got a lot of inspiration for Planet X from that game. I really should download the amiga version for my Retropie setup and plug in a mouse to use. I will eventually play it on the maxi too but I want to get the feel for the Amiga version again first to see how it compares to the 64 version.
