Just got this c64mini, and the joystick works in both ports, everything works as expected, but it won't see the USB stick. The firmware is 1.0.10-shield. I formatted 2 different usb sticks as fat-32, MBR (checked them with diskpart and 2 other commercial partitioning products to be sure), put the .bin file for the latest firmware on them, but it just does not see the usb stick (either one - an older 1GB, and a newer multiGB stick with 2 MBR partitions.) Is there a fix for this or do I return this thing for a replacement or ??
thanks for any help!

Can you see a USB icon after you inserted it for loading your own game files? It is highly unusual for controllers to work but not the USB sticks.

yes, I tried that too.. but it doesn't see the USB sticks at all (one is a usb3, one is a usb2) -- both devices mount fine on 2 Macs and 1 PC.

Many usb sticks won't work with the mini or maxi. I have several that they won't see. Use a brand others have had success using, and try to keep it no bigger than 32 gig, as some say anything larger can cause issues. I used the Sandisk Ultra 32 gig USB 3.0 usb stick because I wanted 3.0 for faster reading and writing on my PC, and it works fine on the mini and maxi. I got three. One for the mini and maxi, and one to download new firmware or other stuff to. That way if something goes wrong I still have the old stick to use. Here's a link to it... www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYK2AKO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_shareIf you're using a maxi be sure you plug in the stick to the back port too, not the two on the side. And if using the mini or maxi do it before you power it on. Some say both make a difference. Final thought. Be sure you look in the system information folder via the GUI. You won't see it in the USB media folder via the GUI where games are found. That threw me off before. I kept looking there. Somebody should really put all this into a FAQ sticky because it can be confusing.

Thank you to all the great folks who took the time to refer me to working memory sticks and tips! Will hop on Amazon and grab the recommended sticks. I actually tried the Ultrafit, but it was a 64GB model, so I'll try the smallest one they have. (LOL, plugging a huge multigigabyte drive into a C64 feels like putting a Mercedes V12 into a VW bug :-) Thanks greetz, unfortunately the link to the onedrive.live.com file didn't work but I found the program on the www.sdcard.org website, so I'll try that! best regards to everyone!

DO NOT use your mac, it can mess up the files and add other files to the USB stick, like DS files, use a PC if you can.
What size are the usb sticks, it says in the manual that you can use up to 32GB USB Stick.

I haven't seen this asked in the thread, but what kind of power supply (Volts, Amperage) ar you using? In my opinion/experience any USB drive that is correctly formatted (MBR, FAT32) should work. The USB port used should not matter either.

turns out the SD card formatter that greetz recommended fixed it. If formatted an old 1GB stick as FAT16 (not FAT32), and the mini recognized it, updated the firmware and now works as expected! Thanks again for all the help.

I know that THEC64 don't like USB Drives that have been use as a bootable drive, it has a flag on the drive saying it bootable and THEC64 can not read from them, one of my stick I used to boot linux on and I wiped it without fully formating or wiping the partition and then THEC64 would not read it until I removed the flag from the drive, one way of doing that is use the sd card formatter.
