I'm a big fan of cave crawler or gravity style games, where you're flying a ship through caves or in a gravity style play field, and was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for the C64 to try out on the maxi. I'm referring to games such as Fort Apocalypse, Thrust, Space Taxi, and Lunar (Jupiter? Neptune? always confuse the name) Lander for the 64. There's a new (remake?) of a game for the C64 that looks fantastic which I think is called lunar, Jupiter, or Neptune lander or something like that. Saw a YouTube review of it a few months back but can't remember the name. Does anybody know what the name is? I want to get it for the Maxi. Also would like to hear any other game suggestions you might have.
One of my favorite games from the arcade is Gravitar, which features vector graphics. It's so nice to be able to play it in Mame my Retropie setup. Probably the ultimate gravity style game ever made. If you haven't played it give it a try. I'd love to find an original gravitar arcade cabinet but unfortunately I hear most were converted to another game back in the day because the general public found it too hard to play.
As a sidenote, the new Atari dual joystick tabletop controller has some nice graphics on it that remind me of that game. Btw that controller is a pretty good deal at around $100 at microcenter, and they have a fairly low priced spinner you can add to it easily too. I had a X-Arcade Tank Stick which was nice but for the cheaper price I think I'll pick up the atari next time.

Thx I'll check those out. Speaking of gravity games there was a little shareware one for the Amiga where you actually flew around on the workbench screen and tried to land on the top of the game's window. If you successfully landed it would play a digitized recording of the moon landing. Simple little game but I played the heck out of it when waiting for another program to finish on workbench such as a basic compiler for a BBS I was writing. I had written and ran the board for the C64 and converted it to the Amiga but never did finish the Amiga version. For the 64 version I had to write the disk text file reading and output to modem for things like messages in machine language for speed but on the Amiga the compiler made it plenty fast enough for the modem speed. The good old days...

Nemesis, Salamander, R-Type are in a similar vein.
Xevious and Slap Fight were 2 vertical shooters that were good.

I like Silkworm and SWIV too, never played the Arcade versions, only the C64 versions, the games are based on Airwolf the TV series from the 80s, they have a Helicopter and Jeep in them, that was in Airwolf. They even made a game that was like Silkworm called Airwolf.
Airwolf Game from the Arcade that looks like Silkworm

Remember the Atari arcade game Lunar Lander, which pretty much launched the whole category of these gravity style space or cave crawler games?
I had the cartridge version Commodore sold called Jupiter Lander, which if I remember right Commodore actually included in the box when I bought my C64. I think it was the first game I ever had, with Lemans made also by Commodore on cartridge I bought as my second game.
At the time I only had a tape drive so games on cartridge were a big bonus in the ability of the C64 until I got a disk drive. Both were great games, especially for so early in the life of the C64, and being able to use Atari paddles to play Lemans was a lot of fun.
Anyway, here's a BastichB review of these games along with the new Neptune Lander Elite game that has recently come out for the C64. It looks great, and it's a free game too so I'm hoping it's added to the Carousel on the mini and maxi if it hasn't been already...

Just ran across another gravity style space game for the Amiga this time that looks good. It's called Fly Harder.
