Just thought I'd pass this along in case anybody missed it. ReroRecipies on youtube did a video about a USB disk drive that is still made and sold on Amazon that actually works with the mini (and I'd assume maxi). He even printed a 3D case for it that looks exactly like a 1541 and is true to scale in comparison to the mini. This 3D case image file is also available free from him online. If you're wanting to actually assemble a collection of disks to load your games old school check it out. Pretty amazing. His channel is excellent by the way.

Btw in a recent unboxing video of his of numerous stuff he briefly shows what appears to be a usb stick with a C64 disk drive/printer/etc port on its side and mentions it will be covered in an upcoming video. If it's what it appears it might be a great way to use original hardware on the mini and maxi.

I've just finished making this 1541-Mini. Pretty happy with it, and love how authentic it looks next to the C64 Mini. Some build photos below.... Based on this USB 3.5" floppy drive - Amazon linkCleaning up 3D print of the 1541 mini case (printed this remix design from Thingverse) Testing it all fits & works Primer and sanding... Coats of the Commodore beige spray paint! Painting and colouring the front label Assembly - glueing and tweaking Finished result All credit to Retro Recipies for design & instructions on making this cool thing. I love it!

Very nice! You should send RR an email with the above. I'm sure he'll mention it in the Retro News or whatever segment on his The Retro Show portion of his show where he covers such things.

I just started experimenting with this idea in the past few days because I found a bunch of old Amiga disks that I don't have an Amiga for. After a little hex editing of the supplied 1.4m blank floppy image to turn it into a 720kb image, I now can fit 4 d64 files on each. The cheap floppy drive I have seems a bit tempremental though, it sometimes completely freezes up my PC when using it and randomly wont detect on the C64. It's great fun though :-)
