Hello!
I have just got the TheC64 and updated it to the latest firmware (1.5.2). There are some audio issues within some games, foe Deflektor. The audio works fine in Carousel menu. I have tried all the options for the PAL/NTSC/50/60Hz but still the same.
Im using the PSU, HDMI and everything that came out of the box.
Any hints ?

Google and see if you need to swap SID chip for this game

Correction.
I tried some other games and there are the same issues in mostly all of them. The TV ive connected the C64 to is a Philips 55inch and i have removed all the enhancements. I tried the TV upstairs which is a Samsung 50inch and there's no problem there. Perfect sound on that one. Wondering what causes this issue...

Could be an HDMI issue, are you using the same cable downstairs as upstairs?

Tried three different hdmi cables. One from ps5, Nintendo switch and the hdmi that came in the box.

It could be the HDMI connector of the TV, maybe try cleaning the HDMI connecter carefully with a paint brush or a tooth brush, its amazing what dust can do, if sound still don't work properly you could get a HDMI connector with a sound output so you can output the sound fromTHEC64 to another sound device or speakers.
Do you have another console(like PS Classic, MD Mini or THEC64 Mini with a HDMI connector) to test on that TV to see if the sound works fine with that console..?

1. Works on TV upstairs
Console is ok
2. Does not work on Philips TV
Different lead eliminated
Q.E.D. it is the TV not the console
Check TV firmware, game mode settings next

I have tried all the hdmi ports on the Phillips tv (where the problem is) with different leads on every port. Problem still exists. I even tried the hdmi cable from the ps4 which is connected to the Samsung tv on the Phillips but same problem. So the problem is the tv itself, not the console. I have flashed the Phillips tv to the latest firmware just now and reset every setting for both audio and video. Still the same. I have tried enhancements like gaming mode on/off etc but the problem is still there. I can hear a little difference in the audio behavior when i change the input device names PC/TV/Console but it’s still a lot of stuttering.

Try unplugging the mains and connecting the console then powering up the TV

I don't hold up much hope but it could be a ground issue. What model TV is it?

Same as before. Im running out of options here.
How come the carousel background music sounds good but the emulated games doesn't?

Background sound is a wav / mp3 player I think.
If that works well then it seems it must be an interaction between the emulation and the TV.
When the next version of PCUAE comes out I would be interested to know if you can run Vice and load a game with sound and try that.

Will have to wait and see then. I tried to load some games from the Classic mode as well to see if there maybe was a problem with the carousel option. But still the same sadly. Gah!
Edit: Tried running the c64 on a gaming monitor i have luying around with internal speakers. The audio works fine on that one. So it must be an issue with my Philips TV for some reason

You could try messaging Retrogames and see if they are aware of any issues with Philips TVs ?

You could try messaging Retrogames and see if they are aware of any issues with Philips TVs ? Sent them a message on facebook and also through their contact form on the website.
Thanks for all the help. Let's hope this can be fixed with a future firmware upgrade.

I got a reply from their Facebook group.
“ We have never heard of this issue before but will pass onto the team for you”
So, guess I’ll have to wait and see then. 🤷🏻♂️

And here’s the reply I got from them
“ Hi we spoke to the tech team, they confirmed it’s not something that’s come up before. But in the basis your console works fine with one of your TVs but not the other it’s clearly an issue with that particular tv. So the suggestion is of course either use the tv that does work and also maybe contact the tv manufacturer to ask them for help? Hopefully that helps.”
Not much of a help. It’s obviously a “problem” with the signal coming out from the console and how the tv handles it. Guess I have to contact philips about this. Good luck with that 😅

Yes - we diagnosed it down to the TV as the problem.
Cannot really expect Retrogames to do more as they won't have your TV and nobody else has had a similar problem.
It sounds like a problem with Philips implementation of HDMI
Have you tried all ports on your TV - one might be HDMI ARC which may perform better.

I have tried all the ports. With and without 90dgr adapter. Even tried the ARC port. I have the c64 hooked up to my 24” gaming monitor now and it works. But it’s not ideal. I want to use it with the Phillips tv! Maybe I shall get one of those split adapters so I can at least use a 3.5mm audio jack instead of hdmi audio.

It sounds like a problem with Philips implementation of HDMI Well... On the other hand probably all other devices that znatch has work fine with the Philips TV so it's more an interoperability issue between the two devices rather than the TV's problem. znatch You could try running 'pure' VICE (https://thec64community.online/thread/776/full-blown-vice-mini-maxi or via PCU) and see if that also has the problem.

Nice! I will look in to this asap.
Ok, so the problem is there even with VICE. I tried to adjust some of the sound settings but i didn't manage to get it any better sadly. Still choppy and lots of stuttering. In foe. Stunt Car Racer, i can't even hear the engine sound. Just a lot of stuttering.
My other consoles PS4 Pro, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox one works flawlessly. It's just this C64Maxi machine that im having issues with.
