They are not that great, when I plug in a USB Stick in one of them it wobbles left and right and you see read errors come up on putty where it can't read from the USB Stick properly.

My advise is plug in a HUB Hub to save your USB Ports, I am going start to use one now, it must be all the plugging in and out that damages the USB Port, I have not done that a lot though.

You can see it happening in a video I posted on the PCUAE thread where I plug in a USB Stick into it after copying PCUAE to it, if you look at the putty screen on the left side of the screen.

That`s a shame Nick as the vic20 model is hard to come by, you could always pop some fresh solder on the anchor points on the board as a last resort.
I`ve put my TheVic20 away in the box and just use TheC64 for everything. But with all the testing you`ve done its lasted well till now.
Time to get a crowd fund to buy you a new one i`ll put some money in the pot Nick as its been great to use the PCU.

Another problem is if you use a SD Card and SD Card Reader, you have to plug it into the USB Ports on the side, it don't work properly in a USB Hub, it takes longer to see it so thinks its not plugged in so Autoboot Mode don't work in PCUAE, by the time its sees it the carousel within the firmware has come up and then you see the USB Icon appear, just after the carousel has loaded, my USB Stick works fine in USB Hub, my SD Card Reader is a ANKER, so not a cheap one, it cost £10 from eBay, I bought years ago, I might see if adding power to the USB Hub makes it see the SD Card quicker.

Repair options

1. TheC64, gut one and put it in the much nicer TheVic20 and flash it ;-)

2. Desolder the USB ports on the hub and put some better quality ones on.

3. Recrimp the current ones?

4. Use a permanent fit memory stick on the rear port and gadget mode?
