Hello. I'm a happy owner of a C64 Maxi. It's a great unit and I'm having a ball with it thus far. I have serval MAME machines, and a few Retropie units as well.. so I'm versed in all the ways and means of this stuff we do.
So I can imagine it's some sort of resolution issue. I purchased a Foinnex VGA to HDMI adaptor and tried hooking this up to 3 different sets. A Dell 19" 1908FPt, a Dell 20" 2007FPb and an ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278QR 27.0" 2560x1440 165 Hz Monitor.
Nothing. The ASUS I have running direct out of the Maxi HDMI port and gives me "out of range"... the two Dells running through the converter... nothing.
Then plan was to have this on my desk plugged into the Dell 19: next to my ASUS 27" so I can use it more often. It works fine on my TCL 42" Roku LCD. So I know it's not the unit.
Can you recommend a better converted that will work, rather than me keep buying stuff and have it fail?
Even better would to have it packed in with the unit when you buy it for those that want to use it like an actual C64 from the 80's... like me.
Thank you!
And again... I still love it!! Blew my mind when I opened the package. My literal expression was... Ho-ly S&*^t!! And I still am saying it whenever I look at it.

Foinnex VGA to HDMI adaptor...? don't you mean Foinnex HDMI to VGA adaptor, have you got the right adapter, you need it to go from HDMI to VGA to see the HDMI picture from THEC64 Maxi on the VGA Monitor. It says on there site, its not bio-directional .. www.foinnex.com/nd.jsp?id=4 I made this mistake to once.

Yes.. sorry, I got it backwards. I have the HDMI to VGA. I get nothing... black screen. The C64 Maxi is working fine. Same for direct HDMI to my ASUS monitor... nothing. Any other adapter/converter I can use?
I have this...

ugh... you're right. I just realized what you mean. I have a VGA input, to HDMI output. Jeeze.. how the hell did I miss that.
Brightside.. I can still do this. I 'll get the right adaptor. I need one with audio out as the monitor has no speakers.
Thanks for the help.

I was right in the first place then, I bought one years ago but it was a VGA to SVideo for my original C64 when its was meant to be SVideo to VGA, I got the right one in the end but it was NTSC not PAL(they are all like that), I still have it now but If I use it on my C64 is picture is in Black & White, well like how I used it the 80s anyway, I had a B&W TV for my C64 in the 80s... This one, I wanted to be able to use my PC on it to and switch over to Svideo to play my C64, if I wanted too.(Svideo on a C64 has a clearer picture then composite AV does) www.amazon.co.uk/LiNKFOR-S-Video-Converter-Accessories-Projector/dp/B0831FZTTS/ref=asc_df_B0831FZTTS/

INPUT under the VGA port. So we'll see what happens now. I'm hoping for the best. I do like the unit, it's amazing that so much detail was put into making it look just like the original C64. I can't see going back to finding an old C64 and all the correct stuff to go with it. I had everything back in the day... 2 1541's, the 1702 monitor, Okidata thermal printer, Quickshot joystick... about a zillion disks.. all gone. It's just too easy with emulation now...and with this unit being so close to the ordinal, why go back. I really don't see it as a retro game machine, as much as it's really a modern version of a real C64. I keep mine on original boot as to use the old commands again. It's just more fun that way. As soon as I get it up and running I'll post some pics of it running on a true 4:3 LCD monitor. Thanks for the help, JR

Thanks for the help. Can't say enough how great it is to have this unit and actually use a real C64 keyboard.
