I was thinking of doing this but with my Amiga 600 as the case, but it does work(I have a keyrah that you can plug the A600 keyboard into) and the Armiga.

I've been hearing great things about the Pimiga raspberry pi image. It has most things already set up so it takes most of the hassle out of stuff like hardware configuration which can make emulating the various Amiga computers tricky for some. Even ETA Prime, who is a great channel for setting up Pi emulation, said in a video once that he held off on exploring Amiga games because he found it difficult to set up RetroPie for some Amiga stuff. What I think is extra cool is it even supports past and present hardware add-ons like accelerator or graphics cards.
Here's ETA Prime installing and reviewing PiMiga. This video is a year old but if you read the comments below it the creator of Pimiga says he was working on an updated version with all WHLoad software and such included.

Here's another video on a different Amiga emulation software package for a PC or raspberry pi. It's a new video by Dan Wood, who does great Commodore related stuff on his channel. If you look at his video notes it gives the time stamps in the video for things like where he discusses the Raspberry pi setup and use.

With that you could buy one of the new Amiga 1200 cases being built and then throw a Pi and Keyra board into it to use the keyboard and Atari plug style joysticks. The new keyboard is shown and mentioned in a video released by RetroRecipies a week or two ago where he also unboxes the first prototype Retro Games Ltd A500. He's supposed to do a video any day now powering up and using The A500.
