Hi everyone, new sign up here. Can someone please tell me if it's possible to load the C64 firmware on the Vic20? I know it's possible to run games via USB but is it possible to "swap" the carousel, one for the other? It looks like there is a hardware codename for each model but there is also serial access to the NAND so... Thanks, DO

"When updating, ensure that THEC64 or THEVIC20 only has one joystick plugged in to it." ( see retrogames.biz/thec64/support/upgrade-thec64 ) This indicates that you update THEVIC20 the same way as the THEC64 with the same upgrade file in a USB stick in the rear USB port, but I'm not 100% sure. I think the program in the upgrade file detects that you have THEVIC20.

Thanks, DO In theory: Find the instructions on how to rescue a bricked C64Maxi in this forum. Use these instructions to flash NANDA AND!!!!! AND!!! AND!!!! NANDB to your system. I briefly made my C64 into a VIC20 this way, but in the end preferred the C64 look. No need to do that just to get these games, it basically is the carousel look, that is all.

It defaults to C64 on the Favourites and the first 3 carousels out of the box and has a Vic20 Carousel as well. Separates the games nicely. You can then configure it as you wish without risk to your firmware.

PCUAE can do that already by default, it loads The Carousel v1.3.2 from THEC64 Maxi(CTRL-F3)I can run it on my THEVIC 20, you can as well load The Carousel v1.4.2 from THEVIC 20 too by pressing CTRL-F5... so yes you can, there both the same machine, just have a different case and the key caps of the keyboard are different, THEVIC20 is a limited edition THEC64.
