For anyone who wants to set up the Commodore 64 Macro Assembler Development System on a USB stick for the New Commodore 64 (Retro Games, Ltd), I have added a short Appendix to my Quick Start Guide explaining the steps. I wrote the Guide in 2020 as a "love of the Commodore" effort and it is available on eBay. This is a "non-profit" effort, and the modest cost is only to cover the printing costs. The title on eBay is "Commodore 64 Assembly Language Programming Quick Start - Retro 2020 and THEC64". The description on eBay describes the contents in more detail!

I have received much interest in my Commodore 64 Guide, and have now printed a Second Edition with more details on running C64 Assembly Language on all three (3) "platforms"...e.g. 1) Original C64, 2) VICE 64 Emulator, and 3) the "THEC64" from Retro Games Ltd. The title on eBay is now "Commodore 64 Assembly Language - 2nd Edition-Quick Start - Retro 2020 and THEC64". The modest cost of $7.00 (US) is again only to cover printing costs, and this is indeed a "non-profit" effort. This is a good way to start understanding Assembly Language and its connection to 8-bit architecture. It is a nice introduction to RISC, CISC, and x86.

Retiredfphysicstchr,
Sorry for the delayed response! I was off the site during December, and am just catching up. The CBM Macro Assembly Development System can be found in .d64 Format at
10. Cenbe’s Commodore 64 Pages (www.lyonslab.org)
This is from Ref 10. in my Commodore 64 Guide. The Guide has been selling broadly in numerous countries and throughout the United States. The real value is in gaining a reasonable understanding of Assembly Language Code, rather than trying to be a full time programmer! The Guide shows all the system steps for 1) the original C64, 2) the VICE 64 Emulator, and 3) "TheC64" from RetroGames.

Hi Anthony, I purchased your book. I had a C64 and a Comal 80 cartridge back in the 1980's. I was never really into game's. I was more interested in learning Comal and M.L. In the past 6-7 years, I have gotten a C64C, got involve with the Kickstart for TheC64. Have my now. Also have an Ultimate 64. A friend on the internet, who's really good at electronics and programming made me a Comal 80 cartridge with more modern components. Even though I have a Comal 80 cartridge from the 1980's, I didn't want the components to go bad. The plans for making the Comal 80 Cartridge are at Github. The cartridge works great on the Ultimate 64. Anyway, can't what to get your book. Don't like reading PDF documents all the time. Also, I contacted Dover Books, to see if they might look into doing Retro Reproduction of some of the Compute! books and others. Would like to see "Machine Language for the C64" by Jim Butterfield and "Programming the Commodore 64 The Definitive Guide" by Reato Collin West reproduce. Right now, on TheC64, I use mainly C64 MADS and HESMON v2.0 (RAM version $c000) by Terry Peterson for learning Assembly Language / M.L. I do have the HESMON 64 cartridge, but the screen colors brother my eyes. I think HESMON 64 is one of the better ones. You don't have to type "$" all time. Take care.

Just had a look on ebay. Looks good, might pick up a copy when I get to the assembler stuff. Right now I'm just re-acquainting myself with BASIC. I had gone as far as getting Turbo Macro Pro started up, and tried a background colour changing program.

Just a little info. on the "64Mon" referenced in the C64 Programmers Reference Guide on page 215. I guess there wasn't a cartridge made that I know of. I was wondering if it may have been the "Mon64" cartridge from Handics Software. Well on page 65 of the C64 Macro Assembler Development System manual it shows "64MON" in the description of the "Exit" command. Maybe Commodore decide not to make a cartridge.
