I can't seem to get Wings of Fury to run from USB on my C64 mini running firmware v1.3.2. I've tried both .d81 and .D64 files types. After launching the game I get a black screen and nothing more. This was by far one of my favorite titles on my Apple II back in the day :-) Any help much appreciated!

Hi, I'm not able to specifically help with cracks and such because of it being at best legally dubious (unless you can prove ownership of the original game on disk, for instance - I think then back ups are okay) but have you tried accurate drive emulation? Please consult chapter 8 of THEC64 MicroComputer User Manual - it is available to download for free from thec64.com

Believe it or not, I still own the game on floppy for Apple IIc Plus

I'm following up to say that loading the game in accurate drive emulation worked, and I was able to briefly play Wings of Fury!!! Having not sampled any other games yet, it was my first experience with the stock joystick...oh boy. The game was pretty much unplayable for me, but I'm sure you get used to the joystick. I have ordered the Speedlink Competition Pro, so hopefully that will do the trick. I will research what can be done in the meantime if anything with the stock joystick to improve performance. It really made me appreciate the joystick I used with my Apple. Very precise and offered delicate control ability, at least says my memory of 35 or so years ago :-). Thanks for all replies!

The joystick does get better with age, I can assure you. On my early micro-switched joystick, the fire button started to stick so I used a very small amount of petroleum jelly to help it unstick and it has worked great thereafter. Regards, Shaun.
