I was just sitting down thinking about nothing really in particular, and my eyes wandered over to the shelf on which my C64Mini is sitting. Then the thought popped into my head, what Retro Games really should have done was put the C64Mini into a replica of a C64GS case, rather than a mini C64 bread bin case. Then, they could have put an SD card reader in where the cartridge port was. I mean, functionally, the C64Mini is more like the C64GS than a C64 - with a non-working keyboard and all. But, I know, the mini C64 is more appealing and interesting to look at. Maybe Retro Games should make alternate mini cases available so we can mod our C64Minis. Start with a mini C64GS and C64C case... or even a mini SX-64 case would be cool.

Yep I did think this too, but if you think about it THEC64 Mini is just a updated version of TheC64 DTV that why has the same joystick, RGL made it to make money for THEC64 Maxi so it was not planed and prove they could make it (Prove of Concept) cause of not getting funded on Indiegogo and the backlash from RCL and the ZX Spectrum Vega Plus, thats why they are now partners with Koch Media, I would of not got THEC64 Mini if it was in shops. Hats off to RGL for making THEC64 Mini/Maxi, they are great devices, C64 needed updating.. these make it easer to use, compared to the original C64, No need for 1530 Datasette, 1541 Disk Drive, Easy Flash 3, it all there already, I don't even use my original C64 anymore, no point, I was thinking of putting away now, just have not yet, I have too much stuff for the C64 to move...

Definitely... they did a great job with the updates to the C64. I use the Mini now more than my real hardware for gaming, just because of the same reasons you've mentioned: saving wear and tear on the old hardware. I still have my C128 hooked up, though, because I still enjoy using some of C128 software (mostly maintaining databases and creating blog content with Archetype). But, rather than using it to GO64, I use the 64Mini. Still can't buy the full size TheC64, here in North America. Buying it from European distributors is just not cost effective, so I've moved on. The Mini and a USB keyboard works just fine for me.

It would be interesting If someone with a 3D Printer could try and see if they could make a C64 Game System case for THEC64 Mini.. It is a nice looking console.. So much wanted one in 1990.. was never able to afford one and defiantly not now.

I was never able to afford one and defiantly not now. Tell me about it! After all of these years and not much has changed. Back then, had no money so I couldn't buy it new. Now, everything I used to want is now "vintage" and sold at a premium; I still can't afford it.

It would have been more 'true to form' to make it a C64GS, but the C64 is so much more iconic and marketable..

I'm not sure if the CJM supports the second fire button of the C64GS joystick, so whilst that would have been a good name (essentially it is a game system really) it wouldn't have technically been right.

Shaun.

I had one of these in the 2000-2010 period it was underwhelming.
A C64 with the keyboard removed and the cartridge point turned through 90 degrees.
What was the point when the C64 existed in a similar footprint and there were relatively few cartridge games?
It was even less flexible than the Atari XE system which could convert back to a computer. I had one of those too in all its pastel pink and yellow glory.
You are not missing anything imho.
