The Retro Revival Continues With THEVIC20, The Wonder Computer Of The ‘80s At its core, THEVIC20 is not much different than the THEC64. Although Retro Games hasn’t released many technical details, I’d bet the hardware inside the device is identical to THEC64’s. The chassis and keyboard are also much the same, but the colors have been tweaked to match the lovely stale yellows, off-whites, and tans of the original Commodore Vic20 system. What do you think of it..? The joystick with that color looks not quite right, why change its color, to the VICs color, its not a Cheetah joystick.. My grand som don't like THEC64 Mini or Maxi even when it says 7 yrs on the box, he would rather play the PS4 or his tablet so there are not for kids, they are for kids from the 80s..

I like it, even though I know it's (probably) the same hardware as the Maxi. It's just how it (and the box) looks, which gives me a bout of nostalgia. But I never had a VIC-20 so I won't buy one...

I think the Retro Vic 20 is very similar to the C64 maxi, execpt color of case and joystick and some of the bult-in games for Vic 20.

I wounder why its taking them so long to release when most of the stuff it there...mmmm.. making and adding all the games take a while and change pngs files on the Carousel to make it look different, making all the cases and key caps, Motherboard and keyboard too take time and it has to all come from China. One thing, why are they marketing it as a different device like its a VIC20 when it clearly says it a customized THEC64 Maxi on the box, and it not a new product...? And another thing, why put a VIC20 Mode on THEC64 Maxi, they must of been planning this from when they made THEC64 Maxi, when they release THEVIC they could remove VIC20 Mode in a update to get you to buy the VIC20, but I do see it...? Will THEVIC20 have C64 Mode... I wounder... It probably will do...?? It does make sense them adding the Vic 20 mode to thec64 Maxi, it was the only way to find out, if users liked it and would be interested in them making THE VIC 20, anyway ignore me I just rant sometimes.. making THE VIC 20 was a good idea.

I received my The VIC-20 last week. The VIC was my first computer (mine was the MKII with the C64 keyboard and DIN power connector, though I prefer the look of the mustard-colored function keys). I love how much the box looks like the original one and that they used the PET-style characters on the keyboard. The joystick looks really cool as well.

Me too, it just looks wonderful, and some of the games are pretty cool (and difficult...). I absolutely love the joystick both the feel and the colour, it's like RGL improved on the Maxi's joystick as that tends to be a bit sticky. Can you confirm shaunbebbers?

THEVIC20 Joystick and THEJOYSTICK are much improved; issues with the early THEC64 joysticks are to do with some manufacturing issues as I understand it. Regards, Shaun.

THE VIC 20 joystick feel different and more like the JOYSTICK(Competition Pro clone), the one from the 80s thats clear and its not so clickily. I have all the joysticks now but not the clear one, THE JOYSTICK(i have the original one , I have 5 versions of them.. including C64 DTV Joystick, I have the red one next to it .. I added a 5v Adapter to it so it don't run on batteries any more. DAM wires, I hate them... if your wondering, the blue thing they are siting on is a Retro Record Player, I like retro things.. and the book on the bottom right is THEC64 Manual.. Oh and I use this advert on my PC Windows desktop for the background.. , you can see it in my PCU videos. If you look at the Mini in the add, you can see its a model of it, this was made before the Mini was made. I would like to find one for THEC64 Maxi, or I could make a advert for it using theC64 Mini advert, I have a lot of picture of the THEC64 Mini, Maxi and VIC 20 that I have collected from the internet.

It's interesting that they've apparently improved the joystick.
I've also seen a couple of Youtube videos where the reviewer suggested that the keyboard had also been improved, not just the appearance but the actual feel. Can anyone confirm that?

I suspect that the keyboard would be more subjective, but I think THEVIC20 is an all-around better machine; better look, better feel, better carousel colours, and better joystick. Regards, Shaun.
