Hello!
I want to put a Raspberry Pi 4 inside my maxi, and keep both boards. I intend on mounting a toggle switch next to the power button to make a dual bootable system.
I've seen a YouTube video where a guy spliced the USB wires for the keyboard, so I think I should be able to easily share the USB ports and keyboard between both boards (and hopefully the power LED too). I've also sourced a passive HDMI switch with auto signal detect, so I should be able to mount it inside the case and not worry about handshake issues from trying to splice in a second HDMI source.
The obstacle I've come up against however, is the power source. Both boards are 5v, but the Pi 4 has a 3 amp draw. The Retro Games website says the maxi box includes a 2amp power supply (although the one I got only says 1amp). My question is, what happens if I pump 3 amps into the maxi?

You don't pump Amps into the Maxi, the Maxi draws the amount of Amps it needs. So it should not be an issue.

In addition to a 3B Raspberry Pi, I have a tiny H2 Orangle Pi with WIFI antennae, and a Libre "La Potato", all waiting to be used. I'm thinking I could put an Amiga emulator in to round out the Commodore-platform games, but maybe something else. Heck, maybe just a web browser and text editor. So many possibilities! I can't find anything on YouTube even now. My other though it wiring in a speaker (a pseudo-woofer?), and find out just how good the acoustics of the shell are. lol
