Turns out it isn't the most ideal solution because you cannot access the files on it via wireless while the c64 has it mounted, so a usb hub with power switching is required (because the c64 never unmounts the USB drive even when powered off) to power cycle it and get the wireless working....which means you'd have to power down the c64 and power cycle the USB key to get wireless access to it...and lose it again as soon as the c64 powers back up...just as well unplug a regular USB key and plug it into a pc...

Switching it off and on from the USB hub doesn’t power cycle it, it forces an unmount and allows access to the file system again. It’s quick and painless.
I keep my tablet or phone beside the THEC64, so I just make changes from that instead of going through the hassle of removing the stick and going to another room for any tiny modification.
Also, I often find games throughout the day I’d like to check out, so I can just put them on the stick remotely and have them waiting for me later.
I just added a few games while sitting in bed and created CJM files for them using my iPad.
I might write a script at some point that uses a Linux WebDAV client to do weekly backups of the drive, too.
