Hi folks.
I am experimenting with the NEW carousel editing tool "TheC64 Maxi Game Tool". I was making .vsf files for my games on my PC, but when I set them up in the carousel, I get the following error message when I try to launch the game in the editor during testing before I flash the Maxi.
"Cannot load snapshot file".
So, I did some digging and it appears the Maxi is using a rather old version of Vice (2.4). The version I had on my PC and that I used to make the .vsf files is version 3.1. I guess changes between those versions made the .vsf files incompatible.
Before I go and start all over again, I'd like to know if there are plans to upgrade the version of VICE within TheC64? If so, then I'll hold off on starting over and remaking all my .vsf files in the older 2.4 version of Vice.
Any info is appreciated.
John

John I would guess that the processor in the Mini is not strong enough to run Vice 3.X at full speed at all times. That might be different for the Maxi. Also nobody really has dug into the changes Retro did on the Vice Source for the Mini - I have a nagging feeling that they changed SOMEthing to get scrolling synched to Vblank (and therefore have a small speed difference to a real C64). Unlike other implementations of Vice on small computers (like the Raspberrys) the scrolling on the Mini is nearly flawless. Only BMC64 on the Raspbi works as well or better, all the others have visible stuttering now and then. And then there really are not a lot of "edge cases" of games that do not work on 2.4 correctly (I think Quedex is one of the very few).

FYI, you can DOUBLE CLICK the custom game box art and it will launch VICE for you for that game. VSF file usage is ALL covered in my tutorial video: (timestamped ... look at the description for full index of time stamps)
