i don't like demos. Just like shareware. I think it's pollution, only useful if you want to buy it is good It is not that kind of demos. This is about demo scene demos, software made by hobbyists to get the maximum possible out of the system both in graphics and audio. There are groups competing with these demos at demo scene parties and the results are often beautiful and very impressive to watch, combined with really good music. A number of people in the gaming industry came from the demo scene and many are still active in it.

Why not expend the effort and write a full program to really get the most out of the coding and the machine?

OK I deleted the poll, and Autoboot will be disabled at booting up PCU, what I do is if you want it to do it still automatically, the script will still run but you will have to put in a file its looking for in boot folder, once it sees the file is there then Autoboot will automatically boot on startup and will check to see if the autoboot file is in the firmware, if its not then copy it to it at startup, I will make the file for you and all you do is drop it into the Carousel_Games/Options/boot folder to enable Autoboot from start-up. What you think..? I hope it makes sense.. Time to get back to work and working on PCU.. Yes, it seems to me that it makes sense.

I have a silver label C64 Mini EU(PAL) Toshiba nand and it work ok on it(v1.3.2), its a argent and tested on both models of the Mini, ESTM and Toshiba and PCU works ok on them, I have 2 Mini's and a THEVIC20.
PCUv1.3.2 I never had a problem with it and it slowing down so what you could do is try a different USB Stick and make sure you wipe the USB stick so no opther version on there than v1.3.1, its a clean install of PCU.

I guess you haven't watched the best demos, they can be works of art, like a movie, they are technically creative products. Technically demos are often at the very limits of what the hardware is capable of and use very advanced techniques and tricks to accomplish that. Commercial products are often not able to do that, because time is money. Apart from being a way to express creativity in programming, graphics and music, they also serve as a great way for the creators to improve their skills by challenging themselves. Many developers don't enjoy working on all the boring boilerplate code needed to create a complete application, which for instance is why my current job is creating cutting edge VR/AR/MR prototypes. Things learned from creating demos can often be applied to commercial projects. This is why a lot of demo scene members went on to work in game development. Also the demo scene is a community of technically creative people inspiring each other, which is a good motivation to develop your skills.

Some of the things I see being done on old hardware would have completely blown my mind as a kid. And they also serve as good tests for emulators

It only rectified itself after running 1.19.

Me too, I was in a small demo scene group in the nineties, only made an intro and a pack menu on the Amiga. I've recently joined another group and have worked on a couple of things that haven't been released yet. The parties are online now, but still fun. I love seeing what all these classic systems are capable of in the right hands. I'm going to put a collection of demos in my carousel, hopefully most of them will work.

@spannernick I've updated my VIC-20 and Mini to 1.52 and PCUAE 1.3.1. I'm using the same PCUAE stick on my Mini, but it doesn't auto boot after installing PCUAE, isn't it supposed to? IIRC I hadn't used any hack on it before.

Cause you used Autoboot on THEVIC20(cause its the same USB Stick) when you put it into the mini it thinks its enabled already(turn on), the way round that is to disable Autoboot on the mini then enable it on the mint, do CTRL-7 twice then it will work on the mini and copy the start-up script to the firmware of the mini, so wait on the screen to say "Autoboot Disabled" the press CTRL-7 again for it to say "Autoboot Enabled" and its fixed.
I never made it for 2 machines with one USB stick , PCU is only meant to be used on one machine, it stop this happening again you need another USB stick so the mini has it own copy of PCU.
And for your Information: you can only use up to a 32GB USB Stick or SD Card in the machines, it will not work with a 64GB USB Stick/SD Card with SD Card Reader(from the manual)

That makes sense. I'll get a separate stick for it then. Good to know the maximum supported size as well. EDIT: Oh, BTW, I had plugged in my 64GB stick that I use for my Playstation Classic and it was recognized and browsable.

Yes but all the options you will have to run twice, each shortcut works as a toggle, and works the same in the new PCU Option Menu too so if you have enabled Autoboot on one machine and put the stick in another then you have to press CTRL-7 twice to enable it on that machine cause the script thinks its enabled already.

Fixed the problem with the PCU Option Menu and Yaft behind the carousel, thanks as always goes to jj0 for giving me a example code, now I can kill Yaft and it don't close the script only kills Yaft so the script is still running in the background so it don't kill Firmware Mode... or any option that's run in the menu where I have to kill Yaft.. So now its getting closer to release.. just fixing some other things that are bugging me and then I will release PCUv1.3.2.. maybe today...

Well done Nick and JJ0 - great new features. Thank you.
What is the Restore key to quit Midnight Commander on a PC keyboard?
I managed to sort of crash the Midnight commander by pressing F10 and return so I just powered off.
I could not get any of the Vice menu items to load - does the message about Pet not working mean all Vice is not currently working?
