Oh right fstab, you can mount the usb there and the folders.. Would there be a way of getting Linux to read the start.sh file from usb like it does when you run the fake update then if you remove it, it can't read it and then goes back to normal or is that too hard to do so it reads the script before it boot up the64 file...? Would I have to make a script in /etc/init.d to point to the script on the usb stick and get it to execute it..? this might be a good idea cause then we could then run other programs from startup time. Yes you can, I was thinking too much 'inside' the box. If in /etc/init.d you create a simple script, say 'S98Spannernick: #!/bin/sh mount /tmp/usbdrive/sda1 /mnt cd /mnt ./start.sh umount /mnt Thant would run start.sh if it is on the USB drive (and the umount would fail) and if it isn't nothing would happen (and the USB disk would be unmounted again) OK will give it a try.. Let you know how it goes.. Thanks.

Thanks for reply. Yes it seems to be reading from the usb, it prompts me to apply update 9_9_9_.bin. It then reboots , and then starts to load up the carousel (as seen in pic) and crashes after about 3 seconds. its a mini (I am on the latest firmware , not sure if that makes a difference) Not sure why its not working to be honest. I am following instructions (not changing any setting in the .sh etc) I have been trying different things all weekend and still can't get it to work. USB stick should be ok as I have used it to update official firmware and also to run vinnys games etc.
pain....
hi, new to all this so apologies for any silly mistakes or lack of knowledge. I have the files on usb stick (which I know works because I updated to current official firmware with the carousel update) The screen starts to load when I hit apply but it crashes after a couple of seconds (I have the mini) screens attached. I'm at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. p.s I have added the vice folder since these photos in case it made a difference, it didnt... thanks in advance for any advice. thanks, Sham...
Are you sure you are loading from usb stick,in your picture I can't see Wizball in the list of games on your Carouselit comes up in between Winter Games and World Games, its one of the included games, it looks like its booted the games in the firmware, maybe try a different usb stick. It should work I have had no problems. You didn't run the firmware update when the usb games were up on the Carousel did you, sorry had to ask.. Oh and what is it, Thec64 Mini or Maxi..?

This is weird, I have just tested it on both of my THEC64 Minis I have 2 version of them, the pre-order version with a silver sticker underneath and the version with no sticker, its engraved into the plastic and Carousel games from usb loads up and works fine on them, Tested it on THEC64 Maxi(pi) too and it works on that too fine so it works ok for me. Maybe format the USB again and copy the files again to it and see if that works, it should work. if it still don't then try another USB stick or SD card if your using a SD card reader. Maybe the files are corrupt, try downloading the files again,I just updated them cause I added TheC64 Micro Switch Joystick to TheC64 Mini's gamecontoller.txt file, I forget to add it so re download them again, and try again. THEC64 Mini's I have are PAL, I have never tested it on THEC64 Mini US NTSC version.

I might make a boot screen(in place of RGL boot screen) so when its reading the games from USB the boot screen will come up to let you know its working and reading them from USB.. I was thinking of bypassing the update file and get the firmware to read from USB but If I do that you will have to flash the script to the firmware but I made this so you would not need to do that or touch the firmware so really no point so for now I am leaving it the way it is, unless people really want it, you could do it with both options. I am thinking of the people who want to keep there 1 year warranty and if anything does goes wrong with THEC64 Mini or Maxi its not this that caused it cause it don't touch the firmware, its safer that way. All this does is overmount files and replaces them when you run the fake update via the start.sh script, it don't change or remove nothing from the firmware so it never touches it, so its back to normal when you restart THEC64 Mini or Maxi and reading from its firmware again. My advise is... If you find a update with games on made by someone, don't use it,(unless you trust the user who made it, like me.. ) you could mess up your THEC64 Mini or Maxi, only use real updates from RGL, Sending too meany games to the firmware can clog it up, the size of the firmware is only about 65 MB in size, thats why I made Project CarouselUSB so you could store more games in the Carousel. Very IMPORTANT.. Make sure you ALWAYS make a BACKUP of your firmware, I have, you never know when you might need it.

Gave this a new name... Hope you like it.. I had another idea of maybe removing the games and adding some code to the start.sh script where it copies the games from THEC64 Mini or Maxi firmware to Carousel_Games folder on the USB Stick, that way you supplying its own games and then you can add your own from the start and its not shearing games.(added the games really as prove of it working) It would need to check first if there is any games in the Carousel_Games folder first, if it don't find any games then it copies them from the firmware to the Carousel_Games folder then boots the Carousel from USB, It would have to check every time you run it but if it finds games in the Carousel_Games folder then it would just boot the Carousel from USB, You don't want it copying games from the firmware when its done it already, If you are a round Jerome(jj0) maybe you could help, would this be possible you think..?

Are you flashing the games to you firmware or using Carousel Games from Usb stick..? i use the game tool on my pc to flash games to my usb and make an image that is called theC64-9_9_9 i then put my usb in my c64maxi and it says there is a new firmware and if i want to apply it goes back to the previous screen,i tried renaming the file to thec64_9_9_91 and als ort of combinations but it does not update so if i add games to my carousel on my pc and want to save them to my c64maxi with usb it wont work anymore?

So you are making a update with THEC64 Maxi Game tool, that way it copies the games to your firmware, this boots the games from USB in the Carousel, you posted it in the wrong forum thread post here... thec64community.online/thread/482/thec64-carousel-game-toolI think you can only make the update file only so big then it don't work, the more games you add the bigger the file gets, this is why I made Project CarouselUSB(new name for it now), its safer, specially if you don't know what you are doing, you can mess Thec64 Maxi up and its will stop booting, you should load games from USB in the Carousel only, why did you rename the update file thec64_9_9_91.bin(its a fake update it only executes start.sh script only), I renamed the fake update(well I added a 1 to the number)that so if I accidentally make a update in the THEC64 Maxi Game Tool, I wouldn't copy over the fake update.

Another idea I had ... If you want to show different set of games, just change the games folder inside Carousel_Games, like games,games1,games2,games3 and so on(this is what you could name each set of games on the USB Drive) and change the name of the set you want to see in the Carousel, so say you want games3 then you change the name of the folder games to 3 and games3 to games then when you run the fake update it will boot with that set of games in that folder. You have to keep the name games for the main folder otherwise it will think it don't have one and copy the games from the firmware again.

One thing is I can only look at the filesystem of the C64 Maxi PI is via Commodore OS VM by reading THEC64 Maxi PI SD card, I can't change it sudo pasword, any ideas how I would change its password..?

Most likely is they hacked the text of the Carousel in the 'the64' binary, and just either change that to the appropriate/next 'Load games XXX to YYY' every time. And they probably use the 'fake upgrade' developed by raxrip and cyanic without giving credit. And maybe they're even ripping off your 'Run games from USB' developments. Still, it's tempting to purchase it just to verify what they did but so far I've been able to resist.

If you leave this blank there will be no password, if you change it to a known value (encrypted) the password will be that. E.g. Copying the shadow file is usually not a good idea, you might accidentally remove a user's password that isn't defined on the machine you are copying from. But you can use the password from a shadow file from another linux system, as far as I know they are all compatible.

Talking about The True Blue Mini stick, I was looking at the video and got some snaps from it. It looks like they using different version of the64 file so it can show different set of games that are in different folders, that way they can show 255 games per set and there are 3 sets of games and 480 games. Here are some pics.. They changes the name of "System Information" to use it to load the next set of games H to R that properly in a folder (its a good idea)... They must of changed it in the language file(messages_en_.msg) and properly using different language files and over mounting them. all the names for this are in the language file so renaming things is easy. Now this is the next set of games in the S to Z folder. I was thinking maybe there using trueB1-9_9_9.bin and trueB2-9_9_9.bin cause the name works with the updater but the update file has to be in the root of the USB stick so how does it find trueB2-9_9_9.bin..? You could make it think a folder is the root of the USB stick then it would only finds that update in that folder, just cd into that folder and run the64 file in that folder with another fake update that has another start.sh with it with different commands in it. This has given me some ideas I can try... Funny thing is I might be able to add folders to PCU cause they made this... hahaha Well they used our idea so why can't we use theirs.. lol

How do I fool the Carousel in to thinking it looking at the root of the usb stick when is really in a folder..?
so it can run a different update with the same start.sh but is over mounting different games so loading in another set of games..?
