I have a stick setup with BGS 1.16. I used TheC64MaxiGameTool to setup my own "0_fav" folder and populated each section with games. It's all set.
I would like to upgrade it to 1.19 to take advantage of the Autoboot feature, but I'm not clear if I understand how exactly to do that.
Do I simply format the stick and convert it to MBR with diskpart, download the contents of PCU-Anniversary_Edition.zip minus "Carousel_Games", and just copy over my 1.16 "Carousel_Games"?

I suggest you copy only the "Games" folders contained in the individual folders divided by letters and not the whole "Carousel Games" folder.
In my case I went from V1.14 to 1.19 and in the "Favorite" folder I put all the new games developed from 2000 onwards, while in the other folders divided by letters, all the titles I knew and played as a child. I also entered all the descriptions of the games in Italian (I am in Italy) and created customized covers for games that did not include them. Finally I fixed the "Messages_it" files in the "Languages" folders and lowered the volume of the music in the background of the carousel

I see now that the Options folders within Carousel_Games is definitely different. Is there anything regarding the game folders themselves that I need to be aware of? For example, I'm seeing a new "You're in 0 to G folder.d64" in the new "0_to_G" folder. I also see no games as D64 files. For example, everything is in ".vsf.gz" but I have a game called "ACE2" that has a d64 file, a d64.gz file, AND a .vsf.gz file. Now that I look at it, it seems like I really just have to worry about my "0_fav" folder. I mean, that's all I really worked on. I should probably copy over everything from 1.19 and replace what I have. Final big question. How do you lower the volume of the music!!! LOL It's a cool idea, but I definitely don't need it blasting and have to keep muting the TV as I browse and/or talk to others in the room. Thanks!

I thought I made them abit to loud, I lower them in the next version, you can turn off the music with the C key of the keyboard or C button on THEC64 MS Joystick. I will be adding a way to turn the volume down or up soon, I hope.. To copy your games from your 0_fav folder to PCUAE 0_fav folder, Copy your games folder from USB Stick\Carousel_Games\Games\0_fav\(copy game folder only inside 0_fav folder) to a save place on your PC then from PCUAE, remove the games folder in \Carousel_Games\Games\0_fav\(game folder only inside 0_fav folder) and copy your games folder that you saved a minute ago to the same location(\Carousel_Games\Games\0_fav\) in PCUAE, now format your USB Stick with FAT32 and MBR and copy PCUAE to your USB Stick, then put it in to your THEC64 Mini/Maxi and run the update and PCUAE should load up and activate Autoboot.. All the games have been sorted and updated now, they are all snapshots now so load quicker, games that have been updated now are in 0 to G, H to R and S to Z folders so are not compatible with games from older version of PCU and if you copy the games over them you have doubles in the carousel.

Thank you for that information! I'm glad to hear I need nothing other than "PCU-Anniversary_Edition.zip". Just curious, do you recommend DISKPART to make the drive MBR? I don't see that option anywhere in the basic Windows formatting options. Also, is there a way to edit the menu notes of PCUAE to say "C" controls the music? I'm speaking of the area of text that already displays how to change game folders.

If the USB Stick is already formatted and is on MBR then you should not need to format it, delete the files of it or do a quick format, only if it on GPT you will need to do a format and make sure it on Master Boot Record, cause PCUAE don't work with GUID Partition Table. The C key to stop the music is part of the Carousel you can't change its key.

The C key to stop the music is part of the Carousel you can't change its key. I'll have to see if I can figure out how to tell if it's GPT or MBR. I simply used Windows 10 to do a quick FAT32 format when I got it. No worries, as converting it to MBR via diskpart is simple. I'm sorry for not being clear, but I'm not looking to change the "C" key for the music. I just wanted to edit the text of the PCUAE main menu to instruct others to press "C" to start/stop the music. I remember seeing a video of the PCUAE and there is a box of text above the carousel explaining how to switch pages with keyboard commands. I just wanted to update that text. Provided there's no existing mention of the "C" key usage. Anyway, thanks a ton for the help. I literally just got the maxi a couple of hours ago and look forward to trying this all out tonight.

This is a bit of a cabbage-head questions, so apologies in advance... Does PCU run its own version of VICE from the USB-drive (since there are multiple directories containing what looks like a full VICE distro), completely bypassing the software on THEC64? If so, I have some interesting questions about possibilities... :-) Cheers, Mike. No, Nick just put them in there to create snapshots. These are PC versions, and "old" ones too (2.4)
Hmm... Would it be possible to make the boot-process run a custom version of VICE directly from the USB drive? I guess the is a question directly for Nick...
Cheers,
Mike.

No, the Carousel run its own versions of the C64 and Vic 20 emulators from Vice, custom made to work with the Carousel like a Front end, I could I guess get Vice to work, but it would not work with the Carousel at all.

Does PCUAE handle multi-disk games? I know I can try to hunt down CRT versions, and that in Classic mode the Maxi will handle them, but I was curious if in carousel mode/PCUAE, this was supported. Thanks.

You just gave me another idea though. I am going to strip the audio from vintage C64 commercials and swap them out.

I just started messing with PCU 1.19 on the maxi and it works great, except for one thing.
Are there specific parameters the code is looking for when it comes to playing each folder's WAV files?
I put in WAV files of my own into each folder, adding "_ORIGINAL" to the existing file and renaming my file with the original's filename.
I figured that would work, and music still plays, but not the files I put there.
While I have no idea what files the maxi is playing, what do I need to do in order to get my files recognized?

each carousel gamelist screen has its own mini_mix.wav file and its in the music folder 0_fav, 0_to_G, H_to_R and S_to_Z and VIC20

each carousel gamelist screen has its own mini_mix.wav file and its in the music folder 0_fav, 0_to_G, H_to_R and S_to_Z and VIC20 Huh. Ok, that's weird then because those are the files I renamed/replaced, and I still got music when I booted to Favorites. When I booted up the Maxi though, it autoloaded to Favorites and it played the old music. Looking around I thought it might be one of the files in "Carousel_Games > Options > Sounds", as the 3 "mix" files there sound identical (at least at the start). I also just noticed that the bitrate is different on my files. They are all 1411 Kb/s, whereas the original Favorites is 512 and the rest of the folders are 352. I'm going to research how I can re-save one as a lower bitrate and see how if that works. UPDATE: I'm at a complete loss. I re-did 2 of the replacement WAV files, and to my knowledge, I've replaced every WAV file. Yet my custom WAV files (now mono and a much lower bitrate) don't play, AND the mix_mini audio still plays somehow.

Hi.
Trying to figure out how to make my gamepad (Logitech ChillStream) to work with PCU. I've added proper lines (controller is also in github controller list) but can't get it working. Probably something very minor going on but can't figure out what end where. Any ideas?

Did you put it in gamecontrollerdb.txt file in "Carousel_Games\Options\Controllers" and did you use the SDL2 gamepad tool..? if you have put its GUID String in gamecontrollerdb.txt and its still don't work then it could be that the controller needs a driver, like the Xbox 360 controller needed.

when is pcu 1.20 comming ? I don't yet, sorting out some games for Vic20 so the Vic20 CGS has 200 games in it and waiting for the new PCU Game Manager app to come out so it will be a while, so can't really say when, as soon as I know a date I will post it, don't worry PCUAEv1.20 is coming this year.. **NEW Feature** Just added volume controls to PCUAE v1.20 so now you can control how loud the music is so if you press CTRL and CRSR Down volume goes up and if you press CTRL-CRSR Right Volume goes down..

WARNING... If you have copied thec64emu-pcu.rgl file to the firmware and replaced it with thec64emu.rgl file and then update to the official update v1.4.2, it will stop the carousel from functioning cause the Carousel has new features added to it now so will not work with the old version thec64emu v1.3.0 file, please put the original file(thec64emu.rgl for 1.3.2 or whatever your firmware is on before updating it to the latest firmware) back before updating your firmware, please do not copy anything from PCUAE, if it was meant to run in the firmware I would of added it. Thanks..

Does this mean there are now compatibility issues between PCU and the official firmware? no, PCU don't run from in the firmware, it run from USB Stick so still uses The Carousel v1.3.2(it will include The Carousel v1.4.2 as well, THE VIC 20 version only) but some users have copied thec64emu-pcu.rgl to the firmware so I was just warning users it don't work with the new carousel V1.4.2 so if you update it, it might have a problem updating the file cause you have changed it so has different permissions, it will stop the carousel working or if you copy it thinking it will work with v1.4.2 cause it don't case its v1.3.0 and you will have to flash you machines nandb to fix it. They should not be copying anything from PCUAE in to the firmware anyway, there is no need too now PCUAE Autoboots itself. The point of PCU is so you can play games in the carousel from a USB Stick not in the firmware and if you change your games in the firmware and update it, you could end up with a black screen, like what happed to my THEC64 Mini.
