The C64 seems to be in relatively short supply here in Australia . I purchased one from a major reseller and they shipped it from a store on the other side of the country, because there were none available in their east coast stores.
Incidentally the serial number is in the 00000242xx series . Others that I have seen online in Aus and NZ begin with 0000023xxx or 0000024xxx series. Those in the UK and Europe seem to be in the low hundreds of or single thousands?
Possibly the USA release will have a different sequence?
I think that the demand may sustain for a while, and I hope that the product is a commercial success.
I wonder if we will see slight product revisions along the way eg. correction of zero key graphics etc.?
Edited: I have a few too many leading zeros in the initial post...

One at EB Games (SN 000244xx) and one from BigW (SN 000248xx). Both @ launch just before Christmas.

I ordered a second C64 maxi this week and arrived today. The serial number was in the 28000 (The Netherlands).
Unfortunately, when I powered up this maxi, the keyboard didn't display anything on the screen when typing. The blinking cursor hold it's firm position (the joystick did worked). So I returned it to the webshop. Don't know if I will order an other one again...
Maybe I will buy a Rasperry PI sometime and put Combian on it.

Hi everyone, I thought it might be interesting to know that there seems to be a new(er) batch of TheC64 Maxi's available from Amazon Germany. I'm from the Netherlands and had been looking to buy a Maxi for some time now, so now I was finally able to get my hands on one. It arrived on Tuesday and has the serial number 00045555. It works fine and I already upgraded it with the latest firmware version (it had v1.3.1 and now runs on v.1.6.1)

Mine's at 00056xxx. Assuming none of the serial numbers are skipped, THEC64 is selling really well.

I'm reviving this old thread as I'm interested in how the C64 and VIC20 models have been selling.
I purchased a new US (Snowbird) C64 Maxi back in September 2021 from Amazon, and the serial number was 00047487.
I've just purchased a new EU model (Amora) from Amazon Germany this month, and the serial number is 00060665, so they do still seem to be selling steadily as new batches are manufactured.
I also purchase a new The VIC20 from Amazon Germany this month, and the serial number is 00004553. These were initially announced as a limited edition, so I'm not sure if they've made a few more for sale this year, or if this is just older stock that's still being sold off. Either way, it would suggest only a few thousand of these have been made.
I've seen reports that the C64 Mini sells about 3x the number of Maxi models, so that would suggest more than 240,000 could have been made in total so far?
I'd be interested to hear any other recent serial numbers, or if anyone has seen any other information about sales figures.

There's an interesting video on original C64 hardware and things like disk drives that might apply here. They were trying to figure out just how many C64s and other devices sold based on hardware, and the interesting part is the formula was developed by math statisticians during WWII trying to figure out how many tanks of certain models were being built by Germany based on serial numbers of captured tanks. I could be wrong but I think the video was by 8 Bit Show And Tell?
