I have the same problem with the same adapter, maybe someone found a solution? This topic is a bit TL;DR (too long didn't read) for me (even though I did read it months ago to get my own joysticks working). So forgive me if I spread trivial tips that you've already tried 10.000 times. Here are my 2 cents: - Use the program Joyride (link) to see if The C64 registers the joystick's input properly. On my The C64 the vintage joystick that I use gets stuck 9 out of 10 times. You have to remove and reconnect the joystick to The C64 10.000 times until it gets it right.
- What I've learned from the complex procedure in this (and other) topics I wrote in a text file for myself. It's on pastebin (link). I'm not saying it's the clearest around, it just works for me...
- The trick is to get the entry in gamecontrollerdb.txt just right for the joystick that you use, or add an entry if there isn't one.
- For this "trick" it is important to determine the proper axis-numbers and the button-numbers of your joystick. I do that in Linux on the command line (you can start your The C64 with Linux (link)). I use the command
jstest /dev/input/js0
- The file gamecontrollerdb.txt is CaSe SeNsItIvE!!!!
Good luck!

Is this the adapter... ? This is made by Hexagon, a users on the forum64de, it looks like it can be updated with firmware updates, if so asked them if they could make a update for it, so it acts like THEC64 Joystick, My Retro Fun Twin has a THEC64 Joystick mode so it acts like it and even has the same GUID as THEC64 Joystick.
