Changing the USB port that the joystick is plugged in to does not change which joystick is being used, when playing a game. By default, the C64Mini is configured to use joystick 2 for every game. To change this, like when you want to play Gyruss, to joystick 1, you need to change the configuration for the game. The easiest way to do this is add _J1 to the name of the Gyruss filename, like this: Gyruss_J1.d64
