MicroUSB v2 port is really bad designed (not just at Mini). If you plug it wrong side, you didn't notice it right until you press hard enough to destroy jack. Not always, not everywhere, but... The worst thing is that you have to check it from close distance what is the right postiion. It is not always easy task when e.g. power jack is from back side, and HDMI etc is already connected. Here is solution, kind of - actually two of them: Use USB converter (+extender), up to 0,5m. It is not expensive and it could be a life saver. I bought quality one at AliExpress. I am using it most of the time with my notebook. 2nd one solution is that I am using with Mini: with LED light. it sounds stupid but it is great. You can always find it in the dark and you can always see what is position of connector... and you can clearly see where to attach it. Only one warning: your Mini will not work with lousy power adaptors, especially if loaded with extra hardware (usb hub, keyboard, controllers, microSD/USB sticks...). edit: I bought it here - shortened url: is.gd/ledusb ($1,5)
