I am having a strange issue with the Jumpman game resetting to the menu screen whenever I hit the jump button. This makes the game unplayable. This issue started after updating the firmware, but I am not 100% sure when it first happened. I removed all USB devices except the joystick to check. I recently installed the latest firmware update 1.2.0 but that did not help. I also reset the64 to factory settings, but again no improvement. Tried a game pad with a keyboard etc, but no luck. Also checked the other games, such as Jumpman 2, which all work fine (Jumpman 2 is playable, Jumpman is not). I wonder if the Jumpman game file is corrupt, is that possible?
How do I reinstall the Jumpman game on the c64 mini?

You mean that when you hit the fire button in-game it resets to the menu screen?

I have not checked my own but for now... you might be able to run a different copy of the game via the file browser from your memory stick/USB card. Link: www.gb64.com/game.php?id=4000 Where is say 'Download Servers' click on: 8BitFiles

I have applied the latest update as well and both Jumpman games play fine on my C64Mini. Could it be that you may have a corrupted update file?

You mean that when you hit the fire button in-game it resets to the menu screen? Yes, the game ends and I get the menu screen back. The same happens when I hit ENTER on the keyboard when attached. I also noticed that after dying the game sometimes speeds up considerably (and show speed indicator = 1). Really funny to watch that happen, but not playable... - Rob

I've given it a spin and it seems that hitting fire or enter on the "get ready" screen (i.e. before the "level x" screen appears) takes you back to the main menu. TBH I don't recall this happening when I last played Jumpman (that was before firmware 1.1.8). If I wait w/o pressing any key, the game starts. When I press fire in-game, nothing weird happens (Jumpman jumps). Have you tried different display options?

I'm wondering if it could be a power supply issue? Not enough amps going to the device? That might cause for not enough power to go to the joystick, so that when the fire is pressed, the current drain might be too much, causing the usb connection to falter/disconnect.
The thought came to mind because the behaviour reminded me of what happens when you unplug the joystick while in-game (it returns to the menu).

With my Innext SNES pad pressing fire after you select the number of players keeps resetting the game here as well, and I don't recall it being like this in the past.
With the official joystick though I found a way to play the game...
Using the official Joystick that comes with the mini: Start the app/game using this stick and then get the virtual keyboard up. Press the number you want for your skill level followed by the RETURN button. Next press how many players you want but DO NOT touch anything after this and allow the game to load and do it's thing until you see jumpman appear on screen. Close the virtual keyboard and away you go.
If you press the Retrun button before jumpman appears on screen it will reset the game!
I notice the Left Triangle button on the official stick resets the game..., so my Innext SNES pad Fire is some how crossed linked to pressing Left Triangle or something? I did the same load trick as the official joystick with my pad but it just resets the game. There might be a joystick config issue some where. I don't believe it's a power issue as I have enough to run a Death Star via USB as I use a dedicated powered hub.
A bit of luck the guys will see this and hopefully do something about it ASAP.

The thought came to mind because the behaviour reminded me of what happens when you unplug the joystick while in-game (it returns to the menu). I tested the supply, which is OK. I thought I was going nuts over this. After some more experimentation I found that Jumpman resets and generally misbehaves when the iNNEXT game pad is connected and used, when hitting fire (right shoulder button). It appears that the iNNEXT right shoulder button is interpreted as hitting ENTER in this game, which resets the game to bring back the main menu. When I turn the c64 mini off, remove the iNNEXT pad and only connect the c64 mini joystick everything is OK again. Sadly, I suppose we can rule out iNNEXT ("SNES Super Controller" with the colored buttons) as a compatible device, though it is listed as working fine with thec64 on this forum and by reviewers on YouTube. I will be looking for another game pad, but suspect the same issues might occur with other generic game pads that are listed as (possibly) compatible. Or do the other types of iNNEXT controllers work fine and I got the wrong type? Any ideas or suggestions? Overall, the c64 mini is great. Brings back memories!!! - Rob

Yeah it might be the pad..., come to think of it the Y button on the pad is also FIRE or works as fire with many games and the Y button might be the one that resets the game. So if Y and Right Bumper are in fact linked then that could be why we get the reset?
Why the game has a reset option is beyond me and on RETURN key is it? Normally a game with a reset option would use the RESTORE key.

Normally a game with a reset option would use the RESTORE key. Yeah, I was surprised that RETURN resets the game and thought my c64 mini was to blame. Unfortunately, this rules out the iNNEXT pad and potentially many other pads from being 100% compatible. I hope someone will list third-party controllers that actually work 100% for all games. Just saying "it works" isn't good enough. It is not acceptable when the FIRE button is linked to the X (or is it Y?) button. Hopefully the next firmware update has a solution for this. If so, that which would be great. - Rob

One fix would be to support the pad properly..., but then again it's only one game out of many 1000's. That makes the Innext pad fine for 99.99999% of the time.
