Finally after all this time, here is a tested File Loader version of the Definitive C64 Game Collection, USB File Loader Version! Included in this archive are what I consider to be definitive games for the C64. Either they showcase off the best music, graphics, gameplay or are simply just games we would often spend many hours playing. All games have been tested to run on the C64 Mini from USB. I'm not aware of any issues with any of the games in this collection and I've done my best to make sure they're as close to 'pure' as I can get. Some of them are VSF images that have been renamed to D64 to take advantage of a workaround from the File Loader not finding VSF images by default. If you attempt to open one in something like Dirmaster, you should be able to determine right away which ones are actual D64s and which ones are VSFS renamed. Also included in this group is a multi-game version of Maniac Mansion and Zak McKraken as a single file since I could not find separate versions (All the ones I found actually are multi-game versions that are typically cleverly disguised) Not included in this list are games that are already included on the C64 Mini, as well as Basic and TheC64 Mini Hall of Fame are also not included. For obvious reasons. The games included are: Check the CJM files for Button Mapping. Generally, where possible the Left Triangle is usually Run/Stop, Right Triangle is Space, Button 1 is 1 or a Function Key, Button 2 is 2 or a Function Key, Button 3 is 3 or a Function Key, but some games may have slightly different mapping. For example, Ghostbusters has Fire on the Left Button, and Space on the Right Button (For checking your power levels) and Left Triangle is Ghost Bait (For that Pesky Marshmallow Man) Please check out the CJM files ahead of time! I have not yet assembled a 'manual' of button mappings, but of course feel free to modify the CJM files any way you wish. These were just set up by me by default as to what made the most sense. Any games that ask you to change disks, just hit fire. They will continue to load just fine. I haven't noticed any issues with any games thus far. Download the Collection here (link updated): drive.google.com/file/d/1mqiZedSzih1X7xxgsPbPyexx8rbyMhvj/viewAlso, for Sid Meier's Pirates! And the SSI games, you will need the manuals located here: drive.google.com/open?id=1hL4INexJKqinggsOoQpEMAFPgKFSKmBSI have a pretty extensive collection of D64 images, if anyone needs me to upload another D64 of a particular game, please send me a message and I will begin including them separately. I hope you enjoy!

Great, thank you! You don't happen to have a working "Hot Wheels", do you? It's not much of a game, but it is one of my earliest childhood memories and I can't get my version to work...

I added hotwheela to my selection of children's games here: gurce.net/c64mini_files/Look for "KidsGames_V1.01.zip". From memory, I used the .crt/cartridge version of hotwheels (the disk version was having trouble running).

If it's the one where you build a car and paint it and then it drives down the road of your local streets, I have a disk version that works. I've made a Vice VSF and renamed it a d64 and tested it on my C64 Mini. With CJM, is located here: thec64community.online/post/1631/thread

First of all, thanks for doing all the heavy lifting for us lazy buggers. I did however find an issue with Bruce Lee, where it will crash when going between screens. Other than that it's been smooth sailing with this collection

gorkur, thanks for report and welcome aboard! This is the reason why we didn't already put it at Wiki page - it needed precise testings and it is challenging, demanding job. deerwings, thank you for your collection, please check it when you got time.

Hmm, I haven't noticed this issue and I've played through it a couple of times. Are you noticing it happen consistently on a specific screen?

Not on any specific screen, no, but it usually happens pretty early in the game, one of the first three surface screens or after the first underground screen. Am on the latest firmware. Haven't found any other issue with your collection.
Bruce Lee in the collection by Discobear works fine so far though.

Haven't found any other issue with your collection. Bruce Lee in the collection by Discobear works fine so far though. Only thing I've noticed is Bruce occasionally 'stuttering' when running but that seemed more because of my joystick and I remember it being a thing with the original version on my original C64. Are you using the latest firmware? I haven't updated beyond the last one where we got the File Loader because my mini is currently taken apart while I'm waiting for switches for the keyboard mod so I haven't updated it yet. I did plug it in for a little bit to test Bruce Lee again and it played just fine for me (Until I died on the level with the fire spouts) so I'm not sure where the issue may lay. Though I'm using the version I made for the Carousel which is essentially the same version in this version. Could you link me to Discobear's collection?

Hmm. I just put my Mini back together for a while until I get the parts I'm waiting for. Did the upgrade to the newest firmware, and the version I had in the Carousel still works perfectly fine. I'm not sure what the difference is. Try grabbing the version out of my Carousel version and rename it to .d64 and see if you get the same behavior? I cannot seem to reproduce it either on my Carousel or the USB version. One thing I do have different is I have my Filesystem set to read/write on every boot so I'm not sure if that might make a difference. gorkur

Download link works for sure now. deerwings , if you are gonna update it, please put a "gamelist.txt" or so in. Lifesaver. Beside, I re-compressed & optimised manuals (no more then 150 dpi pics now; Buck Rogers was hug). Archive is now 156MB instead 257MB. Interested? I still didn't have time to check any of those games.

crispin Sure! I didn't want to reduce or compress them too much in order to keep them as originally downloaded so someone who wanted them could download them and do what they wanted. I personally cannot stand when someone posts an image they compressed badly and artifact hell takes place. But good work! I haven't done much work since I started fiddling with the hardware inside my mini, as I was waiting for parts (still waiting on switches). I should be getting the last parts I need for the meantime this week so I can begin working on the internal hub and keyboard mod.

Well, I wouldn't stick the game manuals or images on the Carousel itself, really. All of the images on the carousel I've actually managed to squeeze down to around 8kb or less in some cases.

Sorry for disappearing on you like that, was abroad over the holidays but am back home now. Will check the other version of Bruce Lee out and let you know if the problem persists.
The read/write thing you mentioned, is that a mod? Maybe it's trying to write something to the disk image when it crashes on me, does it have a highscore saver enabled?

It's just changing normal behavior of the mini. On boot, it mounts the filesystem as read only. Which is fine, normally, as it NORMALLY will create a temporary image of the Vice file to /tmp. But for some reason, some games don't do that (specifically the SSI games) and I'm not sure if it's the way the mini handles disk images or if it's something to do with the d81 driver. If you use a save state, it should be fine, but normal behavior of SSI games is that it reads and then writes to the disk for character saving and loading, and if you create a character without the file system changed to readwrite, then your characters don't save after creation and you can't load them, effectively getting you stuck in the character loader. But I think that only happens on the Carousel version, I haven't really tested the USB version for that since I know the USB drive is already set to read/write and the images should work just fine as it is. Any game that needs to write to the disk image should work fine in that manner.
I'm not sure why Bruce Lee wouldn't work for you, either way. I forgot to check it with my filesystem left alone in Read Only to see if the issue persists. But it's peculiar that it's the only one that does that for you. The version in this batch is a Vice image I created to bypass all the intros and trainer hacks so that it's as 'pure' an image as I can get but I might have created the Vice snapshot a little too late in the booting process? I'll check this when I get home tonight if I can remember.

Hi, just found your group. I used to own the C64 back in 84, I loved it and had so much fun playing games and learning to program in basic. Now I have the mini and I'm looking for my favorite game called Questron. I've found it for the original 64 that does not work for the mini. Anyone know where I can get a copy of that game for the mini? Thanks

This works so well and is so easy (at least for me). Is their a way this can be done with the fuller list of games that are part of the PCUAE project. I am find all the instructions difficult to follow for the PCUAE instructions and they seem to be changing fairly often. I like the simplicity of this and it was easy to download and use. I like the way it works (and don't feel like I gain that much by having the alphabetized graphic in the carousel (although the screen shots, cover etc are nice). Anyone else in my boat?
I am also a bit afraid of downloading a "update bin" and perhaps messing up my The C64 mini or The C64 (maxi). I know I don't really understand all this completely - can someone explain?

Hi, I suggest that you use the PCU Game manager on PC (windows) to export the games to File loader. A standalone version of the PCU game manager (includes 100 games) can be found here. In the game manager there is an export function to export games to File loader friendly format. Just pick a folder and select the games you want to export: On-line help for the PCU game manager is available here. You can easily import all the games included in PCUAE to the game manager and then export them if you like.
