Just wondering you guys,if this thing is just kind of like a raspberry pi kind of thing do you think it can be hacked open to run other emulators as well? Like amiga, mame etc...would be pretty cool if so..

Yeah, I'm thinking so. So far, the hacking/mod direction has been towards tweaking the contents of the nand flash.
But another approach I think I'm still hoping to explore would be feasible would be to boot an alternate linux from the micro-sd connector, and then drop in all your alternate emulators there and leave the nand flash (and the c64 team's ecosystem) in a pristine state.
I still need to buy the parts needed fot this to give it a try, life has been getting in the way, but I will try this :-)

Hehe no probs man, I bought a spare, just in-case it all goes terribly wrong. Oh, I left my old notes on the matter on twitter: twitter.com/GurceIsikyildizI chose twitter at the time, because I was worried the previous forum moderators would have deemed the content unsuitable. Now that we've got our own forum though, we can speak more freely on these matters, so I'll share any future notes and experiences here.

Chances are that I will just leave the Mini as it is. For all the urges to change it and make it better, I'll direct at the Raspberry Pis that I own, because if I mess that up, I can always just get another one. These Franken-Pi-Emulations are always changing, evolving and updating as well, and I'm the type who prefers to have something just working well, once, and then leaving it at that.

I've not really played with my Raspberry PI for a few years, are there are any good emulator framework type thingies for them? I am fine with Linux and have set up and used things like MythTV and XBMC before. On PC I use Launchbox and would love something similar on a Raspberry PI! www.launchbox-app.com/Cheers

There are a number of Linux distros for the Pi that come with " Emulation Station". That would seem to work like Launchbox. It typically serves as the front-end for RetroArch and LibRetro. Some even support RetroAchievements. RetroPie is probably the one most people use, when they are interested in home computers. Recalbox is great too, but it doesn't have that many home computers in it, yet. Then, there is Combian64, which quick boots straight into C64 BASIC using Vice, but you need to specifically ask the author for permission to download it for reasons I do not understand. I use it though. These all come on sd card images, ready to be written onto an sd card and ready for use.

Like wise I bought a spare. For little more than the price of a Grade (A) PS4/XBOX game that you might stop playing after a week or two... why not. Plus we don't know the reliability of the thing as it would of been made by the cheapest bidder, saves handing over twice as much for one via ebay at a later date.
I have the real thing so the mini is more a mess about as if it was a gs64, my fav games on demand once saved to the memory.
I mess about with Magic64 now and then on my Amiga, because I can. Not to be taken seriously as it's light years behind PC emulation. I rushed this video out some years back of the thing running. If you fancy a looks please skip the video between each game loading to reduce hearing the nasty looping noise. I forgot which sound settings I used to gain more speed rather than having better sound and why the sound doesn't stop when I press ESC. Sorry.

If I can just get BBC, Speccy and C64 games on one quick to boot and easy to use interface I'll be happy! I currently use an old DSi XL for my Speccy playing but would like a bigger screen and to be able to use my Competition Pro. Thanks, will try your suggestions

I'm not sure I see the benefit in trying to shoehorn this stripped-down Linux distro and VICE version into another computer.
Aside from the launcher (which I don't like at all) and the Hall of Fame, there's nothing in the Mini that's not already in another system, such as Combian or RetroPie on the Raspberry Pi and VICE on Windows.

Fair enough, each to their own on that one. For me, I see merits in it for vic20 and c128 users to feel a part of this momentum, as those are the emulators I'd like to see on the system.
My main hope for this is for when the full-sized version comes out, I like the idea of being able to type on a proper petscii keyboard and experience these two other machines in the commodore 8-bit line up.

When the full size version comes out, I intend to buy two. One will stay "virgin", and the other one will be converted to a USB keyboard. I have a NUC all setup and ready to run VICE full screen. I plan on mounting that inside the case and basically making a PC-64
