spannernick : you have to update firmware for Tom (it didn't work at Win7 for me twice, then it does at Win10). Then, you have to hold up+fire at joystick connected to adapter, before plugging adapter to USB. Then release it (after connected to USB). Pawel said that he will make proper pdf manual for that tomorrow. This is because adapters have dual mode - could mimic 2 devices, and this procedure (up or down with fire) is like switch. Now all my C64 joysticks works with Mini, Linux and Windows! Here's my Quickshot Pro in action:

No, they are resselers from ebay/GB. E4U is from Polland, at least one member is at Germany. Pawel is founder afaik. Something at Windows, at some cases, refuse Configurator / Updater to work properly. I had not luck with two Win7 PCs, then one with Win10 works but only for 30 sec - then it disconnects adapter. Very strange. But I managed to update firmware there. Just, I did not know for last step - you have to choose proper configuration at adapter: you have to hold stick up (front) and hold fire button, at same time, and then plug in adapter. I think I saw for Twin version that is opposite - hold down (back) and fire, when plugging it in.But Pawel said something about very old version that they sold at ebay (I mean his partners). I bought it from ebay and mine works. edit: spannernick , try Configurator prior Updater (I am not sure about it, but it worked for me). Then Updater, it should look like this: But if you see this new firmware, do not press "Connect", it goes forever ("connecting... "), just press "Upload firmware!". It should look like this:

I don't know If it is the older version if it is,will he be will to update that version as well,I always got stuff from that seller, you get the item in 48 hours,so I got the next day.so if he is reseller does that mean he made the adapter themselfs or got it from Pawel E4U,Thats where I got my USBJoy from too.Is he a seller thats allowed to sell Pawel E4U stuff..? he is not then I stop buying stuff from him...??

You should probably ask Pawel directly. I suppose that you bought older version from ebay, that not apply with this configurator / updater. This was the case with some other member of fb mini group, and that was answer from Pawel. Unfortunately, I saw it just for second, it is blurry for me, but it could be found at fb mini group.

Sorted it out now,Thanks to a guy on TheC64 Mini Facebook page,Its now working with TheC64 Mini.. ,But it will not work with my USB Hub it has to be connected to TheC64 Mini's USB port. I will be puting a video step by step today, This is how I did it... How to Flash a New Firmware to The RetroFun Twin! Adapter.(Includes update so it works on TheC64 Mini.) Start up the e4you Updater on Windows 7/10 (if using Windows 7 you need Net Framework 4.5,The Updater and configurator will not work without it.. If you need configurator for the RetroFun Twin Adapter, its with the Updater download.Just click e4you Updater above. I had to push the USB Cable in to the RetroFun Twin Adapter all the way, press connect then pull the cable out slowly until you see the LED start to flash rapidly on the RetroFun Twin! Adapter, you might hear a donk sound where the device has disconnected/reconnecting,now start to push the cable in to the RetroFun Twin! Adapter slowly until it connects properly, it might start to installed a new device, let it install. Once you see it connected to the e4you Updater and the LED should be flashing slowly now ,you are now in Programing Mode.(Update Firmware Mode) Might not work the first time,Might have to do it a few times to get it right,When connected properly you will see Bootloader hw revision B,it has to say B if it says A then it's a older version of the RetroFun Twin! Adapter and the firmware Update for TheC64 Mini is not available for that version.(Don't know if one will come available.) You should see nothing where it says Software now too, your connected properly now, now you can pick a firmware update to flash to the RetroFun Twin! Adapter,Click on the one you want(The new firmware for TheC64 Mini) and click on Upload Firmware,it will now upload the new firmware to the RetroFun Twin! Adapter and it's done. The RetroFun Twin! Adapter should work with TheC64 Mini now,But if you have a USB Hub it might not work with it,It might need a USB Hub that is powered,When I tested it in mine it wouldn't work because mine is not powered and I had to plug it in to one of TheC64 MIni USB ports and it works fine. If it's not working still, better to plug in a Control Pad into the RetroFun Twin! because it easier to do this with it, hold down Down and Fire when you plug the RetroFun Twin! Adapter into TheC64 Mini USB port then switch TheC64 Mini on and wait for the Carousell to come up and the RetroFun Twin! Adapter should connect and work now. Merry Christmas To One and All... And Have a Great New Year.. HO HO HHHHOOO Enjoy..

My up stopped working on it so had to add a wire too it,it don't look brilliant but it works.

spannernick Yes, you are right, there are several version of this joystick, but this is Python 1 from SVI (Spectravideo). Mine model is Python 1M, QS-137F. M stands for micro-switches or Multi system version - it has 4system mode switch at the bottom (Commodore/Atari, Amstrad, MSX, SEGA). www.msx.org/wiki/Quickshot_QS-137FSVI made chaos with their product naming: there is dozen of "Pro" version - this one also has "Quickshot Professional" printed on housing; it had different box and big letters "Professional". But I also had QuickShot II-Plus, quite expensive, which looks much better, but it was entirely BS. "Leaf" contacts, poor made, it broke in 3-4 months. Here is my weaponry: QuickShot I, QuickShot Python 1M, Starton "Commodore VG-115", Logitech Attack 3, Defender Game Master G2 gamepad x2, SmartBox wireless joypad, OIVO PS2 wireless joypad, The C64 Mini joystick. "Starton" is one of numerious Commodore VG-115 joystick clones. There were two version, with/without autofire. My father bought me this cheap clone in Italy, it was rubbish. But I replaced, in time, most of inner parts: now it is more like terminator, "adamantium skeleton" inside, mostly indestructible but great to play with. Logitech Attack 3 is monster one, really great stick but this one is the only that does not work with Mini - for now (I have to hack firmware). I bought it cheap as used one, for $5. Defenders are also bought as used, also for $5. "SmartBox" is old one from my son, he didn't throw it away just by accident. It does not work with Windows 7/10, but it does with Mini, very well. OVIO is one I bought just before few months at AliExpress, in package with adapter ($7.64+2). All three types of "pads" have same buttons layout for Mini (and all worked from start).

Hi guys, first post here from my part, this is a little but GREAT Community! Of course, i'm a TheC64 Mini possessor, and i need a fully working and compatible adapter for my awesome original Albatros db9 joysticks. So i'm really interested about Retrofun Twin adapter and i need some info about, so reading that some of you just get and try it, maybe could help me to understand more: 1) Do you test it with C64 Mini latest firmware? Can you browse and launch Games on both Carousel and Usb Stick from connected db9 joystick main (or unique) fire button or you need to press thec64 joystick main button to start games? 2) On two player games, if you connect both joystick, C64 Mini recognize them as J1 and J2 and you can use both of them? Or both are recognized as J2 (so no multiplayer gaming) due to fact that adapter is connected in a single C64 Mini usb port? 3) Can i connect adapter directly to usb port or you necessary have to connect it with usb cable? From images i see about it, adapter usb connector seems too short for direct PC/C64 mini usb port connection... Thanks in advance for answer!

Hope this PDF helped everyone.. res.cloudinary.com/thec64community-online/image/upload/v1543349023/upipfedyizf1lnwbtrns.pdfThe RetroFun Twin! works fine on TheC64 Mini,if you have the adapter connected to TheC64 Mini and TheC64 Joystick and have your Joystick in port 1 in the adapter it will use that port as the same port as TheC64 Joystick so if you start a game with the joystick you have connected to RF Twin! and press fire button then you can use it to play that game but if you press fire on TheC64 Joystick then you can use that so you don't need to remove the adapter to use TheC64 Joystick ,I like that.. so you can still use the 4 red buttons on TheC64 Joystick to get to the menus for the virtual keyboard and too exit the game.

Hi, I have a Retrofun! DB9 to USB adapter that works fine to connect my old Comp Pro to my PC (win 7) but it is not working with the mini, nor am i able to flash with new firmware as is suggested by the Youtube Vid.
Last night on connecting to the firmware updater states: "Retro Joy Adapter, sw version 02" in Software, "---" in hardware and "e4you device attached " at the bottom. Of course on attempting to connect hangs on connecting in orange. Attaching the original Comp Pro joystick and pressing up and fire prior to attaching the Retro Fun! does nothing.
The online documents refer to an identical looking device branded as TOM, and there is no mention of "sw version 02" anywhere.
Other than trying in a Win 10 machine is there anything else I can do... is it just the firmware server being down again - can anyone confirm if they are able to connect currently (ie it's the server issue not my set up)
Cheers!

still not connecting today. Not sure if it makes any difference but noticed on ebay 2 listings looking almost identical but one seller is i_love_this_place and another is called zp_manchester (both list a manchester address). I bought from the former 7th of December, and consider it states "version 02" it seems unlikely it is to working due to it being an 'older version'. I considered messaging Pawel Burdzy as suggested, however I read somewhere comment about counterfeit version (this may be either a paranoid insomnia-induced delusion or something i read but cannot reference the source of this) but there are several listed on fb and none have any clue on the profiles as to who is the e4you retrofun! guy. Feel bit awkward about hassling the wrong one...

Usually it is not about connecting, just it looks this way (weird). @ manchester guy: he is reseller, is/was (?) business partner of Pawel, but it is something weird about it - he is unreachable, it seems. Did you check manual Nick made? Specific woodoo ritual neded I updated Mini Wiki with recent informations, please look at it. Last solution is to contact Pawel Burdzy at fb messenger and be persistent in asking for help. He is a good guy and he will respond you / help you, if possible. edit: p.s. I adore your avatar, FF is one of the best games ever imho!

Tried another Win 7 PC, exact same issue. I tried a win 10 laptop and it connected straight away. It didn’t seem to matter if the joystick button was pressed and left being held. I was able to flash to sw version 3... but carousel does not respond and the joystick when in port 2 with a port 2 game does not respond in the slightest- still works on the PC under emulation. Nick’s pdf is helpful. I would be interested if anyone can connect to the server with anything other than Win 10. I haven’t messaged Pawel as i’m not sure which is his profile!!! Attachments:

But, please check first my post in our thread here: thec64community.online/post/1629/threadProblem is that this procedure is needed only ones and can't be reproduced iirc, so everybody forgot how they did it then.

Holding up and pressing fire seems to make no difference, I can flash to firmware 1,2 or 3 successfully and I have run it through configuration 1.03... but still not detected by my mini!
I have tried direct connection of retrofun! To both usb inputs on it’s own (light flashes rapidly before machine turned on then steady with intermittent wink), in conjunction with the C64 stick, albeit with a usb extension wire that came with the retrofun! As the device is to big to sit next to any other device in the USB ports on the mini otherwise, this bein defined as port 2 presumably, and setting up both _J1 and _J2 extensions and nothing seems to make a difference. Also tried via a powered USB hub. Nothing.
Yet the retrofun! Works fine with my comp pro plugged into pc for emulators...
Very frustrating!

Agree that must be frustrating, this is how I felt. Try this trick fire and holding up (or down?) when you connect it to Mini. This helped me iirc (since then, it works). It is copy & paste of my chat with Pawel:
---- ---- (But it was for single model, not Twin)
edit: he said that he has some urgent work to finish, so I suppose that he is still in rush. It was November 9th.

Hey Crispin, yeah that was really helpful! I did lots of fiddling with pressing the button and holding the stick either up or down or left. I noticed after doing it down then when i replugged the Retrofun! into the PC it no longer recognised the USB device and I was no longer able to flash the firmware. I had at that point given up on it completely until I read your post and wondered if it had been set into C64 mini mode... plugged it in and it works a treat!! AMAZING. Don't you just love a happy ending? Hope this thread helps others with similar issues. 1. don't use windows 7 - use 8 or 10 (both worked for me when 7 didn't) 2. go to redirect.viglink.com/?key=c1cdf22cfdb6719d2f056213f6dd4bd2&u=https%3A//drive.google.com/drive/folders/1liT12FRtot6ySOGx6-XNP2GA-ugKfOXf for the updater and 1.03 configurator 3. update to version sw3 4. Press and hold fire and down on insertion of the retrofun! to set it to C64 mini mode (or up and fire to set it back to PC mode)
