has anyone gotten these to work? Every copy I've played with crashes or simply will not load. I read somewhere that the built in basic has some kind of fastloader. Is there a way to turn that off and might fix the problem. Does anyone else have any ideas? Almost everything I have thrown at this the 64 mini works pretty well. To bad I can't put VICE on there and that would solve a ton of problems...
thanx

Think I remember playing the .crt / cartridge version of test drive i/ii on the mini and it worked fine, maybe give that a try

It should work. www.n0stalgia.org/common/pages/releases.php?op=showrelease&id=258Check other releases from Nostalgia too. Read at the official site about how to turn off Mini's fastloader etc, here: thec64.com/file-loader/^ note means that Mini's fast loader will be active when game try to load next level, which could be adapted to it's own fast-loader, so it won't work with Mini's. (So you have to ad flag "_AD" at suffix of filename, or make a cjm text file) Check this, also: gurce.net/c64mini/playing_games_that_span_multiple_disks

tried the crt no go just drops to basic. Even turning off the fast loader just crashes. I've also noticed if you leave the 64 mini on for more than 2 days straight the joystick stops working. reboot and you're fine. VICE is really broken on the c64 mini... Works fine on my real 64C. any other links to a working test drive/II.

I'll test it later more thoroughly, but "just drops to basic" indicates that you have something wrong in your setup. Did you check PAL / NTSC dependencies? Both same? VICE is not "broken" at Mini afaik. Check you power adapter rather, it is what makes your joystick (or Mini) freeze, probably. You know, it is like a driving new car. Some things are better, some does not work as you used to. Why would you have it on for 2 days,I would never have mine on that long or my real C64,The Real C64 would blow up...

It's an old bug in VICE (which was fixed years ago, but after 2.4 which is what they use) - the clock wraparound didnt work correctly, which causes random problems (drive freaking out, i/o not working, etc). iirc it occurred earlier than after 2 days though (32bit 1MHz tick - calculate it yourself =P)

Works fine on my real 64C. any other links to a working test drive/II. It works for sure: 2-3 things that you have to learn, acidrain97 : 1.) Avoid "_" in filename - for Mini it means special flag (e.g. "_J1" for joystick port 1), it can confuse Mini. This file I gave you a link is probably one of those. Just replace "_" with "-" for example. 2.) When you turn off Mini' fastloader by button C, it means that you turned it off only "first time" - when it acces media storage. If game is multi-part, or just try to load/save/anything from disk, tape or cartridge, it will continue to use "quick&dirty" fastloader. Proper solution is to make cjm file for this game. Download CJM Configurator, or use it online like I just did (I just checked "Use True Drive Emulation"): www.thec64minizone.com/cjm-configuration-file-tool/3.) For any use of cartridges you have to turn off fastloader (there is no any gain of having it, but it could confuse emulation). Even if cartridge-game itself (e.g. from added intro before game) offers you "fast loading" - reject (turn it off). Only (rare) exception could be when cart has load/save game option made for disk aside - but it will need specail workaround for using it at Mini (and probably it won't work anyway). When I now repeat testing of this cart, I dled & extracted it directly to microSD card, and it behave like you described - dropped to BASIC, even with "C" button (fastloader off). Then I made those 2 things - rename & cjm - and it works. NOW GO FIX IT AND ENJOY - THIS IS AN ORDER!

This bug is related to joystick marathoners, it has nothing with Test Drive emulation. Actually, original 1541 disk-drive itself was buggy (VIA - something iirc)! Do we have to emulate that, because of "original experience"? I really hope that RGL will hire you (right after 1st million bucks they made). Should pay you big money just for occasional technical advices.

Good you are the expert and i dont know what i am talking about regarding VICE. thumbs up! I didn't say that you are wrong, but this joystick bug does not have anything with Test Drive/ II (look at the title of this thread). But it looks like, when some read your post.

File name was the problem. Working now. thanx. TD is why I got into the c64 back in the day. Favorite game next to SMB. If you're going to have a mini it damn well play your favorite stuff. I still prefer my 64C/framemeister. The mini sits on top of my atari 800... Now on to GEOS....
has anyone got Print Shop to work? let alone print something?

you are contradicting yourself there. and yes, this clock wraparound bug DID ALSO SCREW UP THE JOYSTICK INPUT RANDOMLY.
whether this is actually the problem here - well. neither you nor me can tell this. but it IS a possible cause.

you sure have an obsession with writing some random unrelated nonsense when you don't have anything useful to say.
that said, a board like the one used in THE64 has zero problems running 24/7 for many years.

well TD works here, but there are MANY games that do not start at all. most of the games form the C64_Preservation_Project_10th_Anniversary_Collection are unusable. or just am i not able to use them?
