Has anyone had any success turning the 1541 into a USB disk drive using zoomfloppy and attaching it to either the mini or maxi using opencbm so that it can read actual c64 disks straight onto the system?
I'm not sure if it's worth investing in getting a drive and zoomfloppy if it doesn't work. I have some old disks I need to read.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but Retro Recipes has done one or two videos on using a 3.5" USB drive that's still being manufactured with the mini and maxi. I don't think it reads Commodore format disks though, but other aspects of what he had to do to get it working might be of use to you in your application.
