Good day.
Someone mentioned this program to me for my Atari400 mini. (I have lots of other mini systems also, but had my 400 in mind coming here)
I tried looking up some very generic google searches or youtube videos on just a high-level 'what does PCUAE' do in general, and what features does it have.
I might be looking in all the wrong places, but everything I am finding are either install tutorials or pages that have information on them that seem like they assume the reader is familiar with the product and what it does.
Could you supply some links to the complete new person on what this does? I understand that it is a temporary firmware update on a mini system - that on next reboot, loads the system into a one time use state... But not sure what it does... just for adding carosel wheel games? does it add other emulators? Does it take you into a whole other gui once booted up?
Is Project Carosel - usb anniv edition the same thing or is that a whole 'nother beast?
Any explanation or links to existing descriptions would be great. (Prior to reading setup information)

I'd be interested in this too, as I've been unable to find anything.
I find the website for project carousel very confusing. It really needs a simple introduction page with a basic description and some screenshots to explain what it is and what it does.
It's very difficult to get started. There seem to be endless different versions, and no simple easy-to-find "start here" guide, which really should be the first thing you come to on the website.
I'm sure it puts a lot of people off. I've heard a number of people on other forums saying that they gave up before they even started because they just couldn't figure it out.

In short PCUAE runs: - All the Carousel variations on TheC64, TheVic20, TheC64mini - you get to see all the other games as if you bought e.g. a PAL model from the UK when you would normally by NTSC
- Additional games collections - lots of Carousels with up to 255 games each - customisable
- VICE mode - run the Vice emulator in full for PET, Vic20 C64, C128, C64 DTV etc.
- Other emulators e.g. Atari, SNES
- Additional tools like change the clock speed, reset the Nand etc.
- Make a TheVic20 boot up as a The400
- Also runs these things on other models like A500Mini, The400, VCS+, Atari Gamestation
etc.

This is great info. I've been wanting to see a sticky thread with just bullet points highlighting at least the major features. This may have already been answered and I missed it before or forgot, but can any of these Atari or other mini front ends be run on the other minis and vise versa? In particular I'm interested in if the C64 mini can run any of the Atari (or any other mini's) front end?
Also, some bullet points highlighting what computers or consoles each can emulate would be helpful, or at least mentioning what newer generation of computers or consoles they can't emulate past. And what about MAME? Can they run it and at least emulate the 1980's to 1990's arcade games?
Maybe besides bullet points highlighting what each mini or maxi can do, it would be helpful to list what one can do that another can't. The C64 mini vs maxi for instance, or the C64 Maxi vs the A500. Way I understand it the A500 and everything since (the Atari A400 and Spectrum) are all using the same exact board and same amount of memory? Which should mean they're equally capable to run the same things that the C64 maxi might not be able to, and same with the C64 mini vs maxi due to either CPU power or how much ram each have?

C64 Mini is less powerful.
C64 Maxi and The Vic20 are the same PCB as The400 - except for the USB port which is 4 port.
I ran the The400 on my TheVic20 and games would start but Player 1 was not playable, I got around it with a 4 port USB for a bit but it wasn't robust. It was enought to prove the point and try out the The400 Carousel and games.
A500mini is a more powerful board than all the others.
If you want to choose only one then a500 mini is likely the most versatile with C64 Maxi or TheVic20 second best choice.
