Hi all,
Inside PCUAE, via the Vice emulator, I'm trying to load / test some old THEC64 save games.
Problem is that VICE is launching/running them way too fast (in Warp Mode) and, when I turn it off (under Options) and select Save Current Settings , VICE doesn't remember the next time I launch.
Interestingly, when I run games from scratch in PCUAE / VICE, they launch properly and at the right speed.
What the heck is going on?
Is there some compatibility issues with old saves and, if so, how do I fix them / marry their existence into the latest build?
I've noticed that save files can exist in 2 different formats: VSZ and VSF. - Are these interchangeable ? - I.e. can VICE / THE C64 run both?
If not, what makes them different from one another and which one is the best format for what I'm doing?
If needed, is there a conversion tool for changing one to the other?
Sorry, lots of questions here , but thought I'd put it all down at once, rather than dribs and drabs.

VSZ is a compressed version of VSF so no real difference.
Did you save a new snapshot after turning off Warp mode, that should normally fix it.

You turn off Warp mode using one the red button on the back of the THEC64Joystick, so press one of the A, B, C buttons, not Menu button, Menu button shows the VICE Menu, can not remember of the top of my head which button it is, it could be A button maybe.

The save has Warp mode turned on, that why its on and off if you run say a d64 in VICE Mode.

Yes, I could try and save a snapshot, but the original save game is loading frozen and continues to stay that way, despite me turning off Warp afterwards, so I'm assuming that the new save would only be corrupted also (?).
From what you've said it's got me thinking about what the issue might possibly be.
In my noob ambition, I'm trying to load an old d.64 maxi save coupled with a .crt image in PCUAE via the OneLoad build
I'm guessing that the OneLoad image has warp mode turned on/built into it by default? - If so, can I turn it off?
No, hang on - I just re-read your post- you said the Warp state (on vs. off) is native to the save file, not the game image. - Is that right?
If correct, can I edit that save state with a third party app on my laptop or instead, do it inside PCUAE?
Perhaps, regarding my old saves, it's best if I abandon the OneLoad .crt files altogether ( ) and use one of the original stock d.64 images that came with PCUAE. Or is that unnecessary.
Love to know both your thoughts on my understanding of things and what the best solution is going forward .
