I tried to plug in a US USB keyboard and got no response at all. I NEED a keyboard for my c64!
Also, the FW update to 1.1.1 from 1.1.0 won't work. It sees the file and copies and reboots, but the ver stays at 1.1.0. I'm going to try to update to 1.1.2 tonight to see if that works.

I got the 1.1.2 update to work.
Still no USB keyboard! I tried 3 different USB keyboards and a 2.1 amp USB power supply with no luck.
This thing is going back to Walmart if I can't get a USB keyboard to work. What a jip.

Tfid, any luck with the 1.1.4 update and your keyboard? The 1.1.4 update installed ok. The keyboard works, but silly me, I thought it could be used to navigate the home screen instead of the joystick. I would like to have 3 USB ports for a flash drive as well.

Unfortunately you can't use keyboard to navigate at carousel. However, you can use your keyboard instead joystick 1 (ctrl, left arrow, 1, 2, space-bar) in many games, but it is not a real substitute imho. Most USB hubs works flawlessly with Mini. If you want to plug demanding stuff, powered one is recommended. I've got two wireless controllers, keyboard and card reader attached to mine which is not extra powered, everything works as it should be. MicroSD-card reader is more practical solution for me then USB memory stick. But it is me.

One thing I've observed is that wireless devices seem to draw less current, so seem to work better with an unpowered usb hub.
E.g. If I plug my wireless keyboard & wireless joystick into an unpowered hub of my wired keyboard (that's the only hub I have atm), they work fine.
But if I try plug thec64 wired joystick into the unpowered hub, it doesn't work.
So I suspect the wired joystick has a higher current draw, and my unpowered hub is unwilling to supply it.

I went from a C64 to an IBM PC (mouse) for games and never got used to thumb controllers (d-pads) of the early 'Nintendo' / 'Intelivision' units. The only usb joysticks that use switches like the one that came with the C64 mini are just like the Atari 2600 joysticks that I didn't like because of the vague, rubbery feel to them. The included joystick just isn't precise enough for games like Jumpman or Dino Eggs where 'down' becomes 'left' or 'right' when two switches are detected instead of just one. I have to say though that the lag issue I thought would be a problem is non existent as far as I can tell. The jumps and direction changes in Jumpman and Dino Eggs are as quick as I remember them and fast enough to challenge my hand eye coordination. You people did a great job and deserve to sell a ton of these!
